"... Once you enter the “dungeon mode” of WKCII, however, it becomes a boring, repetitive and relentless grind-fest which quickly makes you forget the pleasant things about the game. Unfortunately a lot of modern Japanese RPGs share these unfortunate characteristics, and I’ll admit that there are plenty of gamers out there who like this type of drawn-out, extreme challenge. However, I’m not one of them and I feel the developers could have at least added an easy difficulty setting to make the game more accessible and quicker to “breeze through” than it is in its current state." 2/5
I ,for one, am happy to hear that the difficulty was raied.
WKCI story was a breeze.
The Online quests had quite alot of challenge in them in later ranks.
Challenge is fun, I'm not here to 'breeze' through any games.
I loved Resonance of fate / DS for it's challenge.
JRPGs are usually built on their Story..
but in some cases, it's the gameplay.
WKC has a great online component - team based co-op gameplay.
Much like how DS n RoF had quite amazing gameplay.
I usually have to pull out a strategy guide for at least 1 or 2 bosses in FF games, but that's due to them specifically making bosses have secret weak spots or secret patterns that no normal person would pick up on their own. But WKC, find out which of the three physical attack types they are weak against, and couple that with their magic weakness...battle over
The reviewer should try playing that.
Is this what game criticism has come too? It's too hard for me so it clearly isn't good. FFS.
Tom played and devoured Demon's Souls and has finished that game multiple times - he thinks it's a high watermark for games in general and loved every second of its difficulty because of the resultant rewarding gameplay. It sounds as though White Knight Chronicles II includes little to no reward for overcoming challenges.
Maybe that was his problem, he ran pass too many trying to rush the review so he had to go back and grind to beat a few bosses. Maybe he setup his attacks in a poor way.
Wanting an easy mode sounds ridiculous for an rpg. His other gripes are fine, at least you can tell he played it and mentions that playing online wasn't possible.
