The importance of fun (and potential perils of a leap of faith)

indiePub has published an article by Alex Neuse from Gaijin Games (BIT.TRIP series) where he ponders the purpose and importance of 'finding the fun' in whatever game you are making and not taking for granted that it may require some effort.

From the article:

"If you are a game developer like me, you want to create products of worth and, because of this drive to contribute positively to the world, it is dangerous to assume that simply because you've created a toy, it is inherently fun.

I always tried to equate what is the balance of worth, between innovation or "leap of faith" gameplay mecahanics and more tradional fun. The tendencies of leap of faith gameplay is the prefection of it, is usually never achievec by the originator. So it is important, but risky.
