EA wants the evolved Origin EA Store to eventually be a platform like Xbox Live or PlayStation Network or Steam.
I just got done praising EA at E3, but this is a stupid decision. I can understand the business of it, but EA doesn't have a networks worth of content unless you count the infinite sports games. I don't see this doing well, unless it's integrated into XBLA, PSN, or Steam.
Steam will destroy this garbage.
how do you patch stuff on steam?
Steam, as far as I know, patches automatically...i've never seen otherwise
im having problems with far cry 2(game screen seems to be zoomed in or the size is bigger than my monitor) and red faction guerilla keeps flickering every time i start it up i bought these games like 3 weeks ago and should have got the latest version but dont know what version was downloaded ps i have the latest drivers for my gfx card and play other games perfectly
and remember with Orgin you only keep ur downloaded games for two years. after that you have to pay a fee per game to extend the time period you "own" the game. screw EA on this one.
wtf they actually kept that rule in place? lol Ricotello had the momentum of a herd of elephants running full bore through the room and in the last week it's all coming to a screeching halt. If there were an awards ceremony every year for worst business decisions this along with the physical warfare pre-order content fiasco would be a top contender.
they are already taking there games off of steam. Crysis 2 was just the start
Yeah and I am pretty sure we wont see Battlefield 3 on steam this year. But no way in hell am I going to buy direct from EA.
this makes physical media more important than ever. I dont want to be under EA's greedy thumbs
Wait, I didn't even realise that. Just checked there and no crysis2 on steam. That's lame EA. Lame and even detrimental to their sales. edit: I really hope Mass Effect 3 will release on steam. I want to have the trilogy all together in my chosen DD service. Anyone know anything on this?
I think you will see it on D2D, but not steam.
its just a rebranded EA Downloader.... nothing more nothing less
i'm not going to buy anything from this service
As long as I can still boot into my (EA) games through Steam I'm happy, I'll just pick up EA titles on disc. No biggy.
... I wouldn't put it past them to make their future PC games require Origin (similar to how steamworks games require steam) Currently, you can buy directly from Origin and it'll act like a retail game (you don't have to have the Origin client running to launch and play games)
One word: Steam. No one will change over. If anything, this is hurting their sales, especially if they remove more EA games from Steam, since they'll be missing out on a huge market. They'll realize that soon.
"[Origin is] not just a retail site, it's a community, it's a platform, it has traits much like you see with Steam or PSN or Xbox Live, but it's unique to EA," concluded Gibeau. No Origin is just another waste of time like GFWL but worse, and all EA is doing is holding games for hostage(digitally). Did you guys really have to pull crysis 2 off steam, really? Whats next DA1&2, ME1&2? "If we can use exclusive content or other ideas to help grow our audience then we're going to do that because we're growing a platform." Dividing your audience is really the best way to make it grow? You don't need a platform you got games on every console&pc and not mention forum.
Ah ha ha ha ha. This doesn't compare to Steam. Period. For them to even pretend that it does is hilarious.
So why are the prices jack up?
It's like xbl, psn, and steam; except we only sell EA games. And most EA games are shit on PC...Why are we doing this again?
I like Origins as a client. I have no issues with the games I do own through EA. However this move is only for more money, only. They don’t want to compete with their software through other distributors, because they are losing. So this will happen: EA will make sure that their products are only available through Origins. EA will only lower their price when the profit margins down. EA will lose money because there are hardly any sales on their site limiting sales. And the ones that are on sale are old and not worth the money.
After their sales flatline they will kiss ass and let their games be sold on steam again.
Unless this thing is just mind blowingly awesome I won't be purchasing a damn thing from it.
Wow and after the good stride EA has been going they HAD to ruin there good streak with crap like this and DLC exclusivity -_- tsk tsk
