GamingRing.com, a Wrestling Video Game review site has played all the final versions of THQ's new SmackDown vs. Raw 2008. Released for Wireless, Wii, DS, PSP, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 13, 2007.
Here are some of their conclusions:
"I have to admit I was shocked on how much better the Xbox 360 version looks from the other versions. There were so many details that I noticed that Xbox 360 version is sporting this year. First you have the incredible texture on the ring mat. The way the real life shadows from the Ringropes show on the mat. I was very impressed of the way the ring apron flowed and reacted to the actions in the ring. Graphically this is the version to get if you have a high definition TV.
"Wow! To say that I was very disapointed after playing the Playstation 3 version of the game would be the understatement of the year. Graphically this game is hurting. The crowd looks blury where as compared to the 360 version the crowd is crystal clear. You can even make out THQ development team member Bryan Williams as a plant in the crowd. The wrestlers themselves are hurt by jaggies. Ugly nasty jaggies which make the wrestlers eyes and mouths look like they have outlines of light. While I do appreciate the amount of effort that it took to get this version even close to the 360 version in my opinion it just isnt there yet."
On this week's edition of Friday Night WrestleCast, we share our candid thoughts on the best and worst wrestling video games of all time.
GM Mode is one feature that definitely needs to return to the current WWE wrestling games especially given the brand split between Raw and Smackdown. 2K has plenty of other classic wrestling games to look to for ideas but the question of whether or not they will make changes still remains unanswered.
I really miss GM mode. Smackdown 1 and 2 are my all time favourites though. Probably because of nostalgia of the wrestlers in those games.
Big fan of World Tour and Revenge. Day of Reckoning was also another stellar one as it played a lot like the N64 games and had a great CAW mode. I made some wild creations in that game.
Comparing the face textures of WWE Games character models through the years... featuring John Cena, Booker T, JBL, Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Mr. McMahon and many more... evolution?
I hope that was the last generation version of 2k15 if it is I'm canceling my pre order.
Rebel Gaming takes a look at the first wrestling game on the Nintendo DS.
IMO the worst of the smackdown games. The whole class system, while making sense on paper, just did not work out in gameplay form. It was after 08 that the series started progressively getting better
Xbox 360 Version WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008
Mike Regan: I have to admit I was shocked on how much better the Xbox 360 version looks from the other versions. There were so many details that I noticed that Xbox 360 version is sporting this year. Charles Shane: Gameplay is what really stood out for me with this game. The ultimate control moves now can be reversed as well as the new total control submission moves can now be applied using the joy stick which makes it alot more intuitive than using buttons to time the meter. Another huge aspect that I think changes the game completely is the new fighting styles. There are so many nuances that this helps bring to the gameplay. Each styles has their special abilities (especially my favorite the hardcore fight style) What it does in a nut shell is have the wrestlers play very differently from each other. The Undertaker has a different style than a Rey Mysterio and the fighting styles makes the contrast even more prominent.
Playstation 3 Version WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008
Mike Regan: Wow! To say that I was very disapointed after playing the Playstation 3 version of the game would be the understatement of the year. Graphically this game is hurting. I posted the meat of the discussion for all to see.
Let the Spin doctors work.
Add another title to the already huge list of 360 superior titles.
Ok, just a quick question, who has heard of gamingring.com before?
No spin on this at all, if the game is a 360 port to PS3, 360 version seems like it will always be better. However when they program for each system individually from scratch is a different story entirely (COD4, Assassins Creed) we will have to wait and see. That being said there will be several games for the PS3 that will continue to be ports so this may convince to buy a 360. I'll buy ported games on the 360 and games program individually on the PS3.
