Iwata explains why the Wii U controller isn’t 3D

Nintendo has reintroduced 3D gaming in the form of the 3DS. It’s a well-known fact that the company was able to offer such an experience without the need for glasses. One would think that, technically, Nintendo would be able to incorporate similar technology into the Wii U controller.

Why? Why would they want to compete with their own products?

NYC_Gamer2350d ago (Edited 2350d ago )

how would they be doing that?you cant take controller outside and play games on it.i doubt this is strong enough to be used in different areas of our homes.

tigertron2350d ago

because one is a home console and the other is a handheld console thats portable.

JsonHenry2350d ago

Two handheld 3D devices would be competition for each other even though one needs to be near the main console.

Same reason MS doesn't want Windows and Xbox competing against each other and wont allow a KB+M to be used on the 360.

To you and I, the laymen, it seems silly. But their research teams say otherwise.

Because 3D was a gimmick that gave people headaches and epileptic fits.

theonlylolking2350d ago

Actually only about 12% of the US population gets headaches from 3d.(if my info is correct)

JellyJelly2350d ago (Edited 2350d ago )

The remaining 88% think it's a gimmick and haven't bothered to try. :D

^^ nailed it, you sir belong to weekly hall of fame

manman62350d ago

It would cost to much money to make a controller that is 3D

Xephon082350d ago (Edited 2350d ago )

$ and battery life is the reason why, seriously 3ds you are lucky to get 4hrs out of, you basically have to lug a car battery around which i must say is funny when strapped to a kid's back or be plugged in and the last thing every parent wants is kids in the home sucking electricity.

"Of course, there are some TV sets with the capability to show the 3D available today but it’s not dominating yet."

sounds oh so much like when he said HDTVs weren't dominating when the Wii launched... Nintendo doesn't learn...
