OXM UK: "id Software creative director Tim Willits has said comparing Rage to the current top crop of Xbox Live shooters is like comparing steak to a McDonald's meal."
Well now I'm hungry.
WHERE ARE THE CHIPS?
Then more people know about mcdonalds than steak.
In America that can be said to be true.
McDonalds brand name is known world wide.
Reminds me of Borderlands with good graphics. Not a bad thing to me, since I liked Borderlands. I know lots of people here didn't, though.
I hate MacDonalds,i love RAGE.
i’m lovin’ it "McDonalds" ;)
"I'm Ragin' it" There's got to be a worthy meme in there somewhere...
To be fair this game is an unproven quantity until you actually play it, it looks good but when I see gameplay videos of it....its more or less a lesser version of fallout with better graphics and a dune buggy.
Hey don't knock mickey D's...when you're in the mood for it it can be really good
Mc Donalds sucks
"You're right there's a massive appetite for that sort of thing," he said. "But it's like McDonalds. There's a McDonalds on every street corner, and I love McDonalds, but I don't want to eat McDonalds every day. Sometimes you need to have steak." What a bullshit title. The misspelling of McDonalds aside, it infers that Willits is comparing quality when in fact, he's comparing the uniqueness, in his opinion, of Rage's MP modes to the commonality of MP modes in other FPS games. Guess you do whatever is necessary to heat up your submission or get hits.
Plenty of people prefer McDonalds over steak. COD is a good example.
People are idiots, don't ever assume something's popularity has any sort of correlation with its quality. So I guess in that sense CoD is a good example. Very popular series... however most of the games are complete and utter cock-bollocks comprised entirely of mindless spectacle with neither substance nor soul.
true most people prefer steak but can't afford it. If l could eat it everyday l would!
This is a new 1 comparing food to games LOL
. Mr Willits...You sound a lot like those other guys from Brink ( who use iD also ) with all this mumbo Jumbo about being different...that didn't end well... " You know, we are trying something different, doing something that fits into the Rage game ". Being different is cool and all but sometimes being different can make you an outcast as well. I like Rage and the whole Mad Max vibe to the game but it's anything but original. They make it sound like they are re-inventing the wheel and trying to take credit for all the advancements in FPS's to date...o_O...Why can't these just talk about their game without trying to discredit other games...he states about the FPS's right now... " You're right there's a massive appetite for that sort of thing," he said. "But it's like McDonald's. There's a McDonald's on every street corner, and I love McDonald's, but I don't want to eat McDonald's every day. Sometimes you need to have steak." I agree, I don't want McDonald's every day BUT referring to your game as game steak is a bit of a reach don't you think. Gears, the game your running from now to launch in October is NOT a FPS. There are a lot of great FPS's out that are NOT COD. Maybe you heard of Borderlands...Hmmmm...How about Bioshock, Oblivion and Fallout...Halo is a big attraction and Crysis has a lot of innovation. There is a lot of variety if you bother to look. COD is the highest selling FPS this gen across all platforms but there is many great games. IMO...the whole McDonald's reference is way out of line especially when you think your are so much better...lol. btw...I love Mcdonald's..;)
As soon as I saw this article, I KNEW you would be here defending the COD and other popular shooters. You don't realise the benchmark RAGE is trying to achieve do you? It's like Fallout and BioShock in the sense that it's a compelling, engrossing single-player experience with a unique and differentiating multiplayer (that I've seen you showing your dislike for). But that multiplayer is not a focus for the majority of people who will be buying the game. It's not trying to be this trigger-finger twitch shooter for the masses. It's meant to be a rich and involving immersive single-player game foremost. By your description and what you think they're trying to achieve with it, you surely haven't been keeping up to date with the latest info and gameplay video have you? There are loads of really cool things (dare I say innovations) in RAGE, that I haven't seen before in the games you mentioned... The point Tim Willits was trying to get accross is in regards to Xbox Live shooters. He's not claiming RAGE to be steak compared to BioShock, Fallout or Borderlands. It's the casual, twitch shooters he's talking about and to someone like myself, RAGE is a huge steak compared to those types of games. The other FPSs are like burgers (campaign) and fries (online), so that McDonalds reference is spot-on! RAGE's campaign is like a huge steak, and usually when you order a steak, you get free chunky fries (the multiplayer)!
I can get me steak anytime I want. I just go to the freezer and heat up the grill. Now McDonald's is a staple that you just keep coming back to. Steak is great... but I could NEVER eat steak as often as McDonald's it would loose it's appeal. McDonald's French Fries though...!!!! I can enjoy every day.
"Mr Willits...You sound a lot like those other guys from Brink ( who use iD also ) with all this mumbo Jumbo about being different...that didn't end well... " Dude , i dont care what the brink guys had to say . ID is the father of fps . If they say theirs is different , the odd are definitively that it is .
To me the perfect steak.. ermm game is medium-well... ...please?
I'm very doubtful but we'll see.
I think Romero is back in id studios.Really, why the hell are they pissing fans of other shooters. There is a thin line between marketing and arrogance.
