Sony’s Andrew House has been commenting on Nintendo’s Wii U after its unveiling at E3 last week.
Funny, I didn't know any of Sony's consoles supported 6 players, either. *EDIT* OK, I was wrong. My apologies.
PS3 supports up to 7 players.
No, up to 7 bluetooth devices. There's a difference. I haven't seen or heard of any games with more than 4 players. *EDIT*@noob: thanks for the link. However, I said I hadn't heard of any, so I guess I was wrong. I admit I made a mistake. *EDIT* Wow, calling people idiots? No wonder you have 1 bubble.
This brings up a good question. If you have a standard nuclear family and want the whole family to pay, you'll have to shell out money for each Wii U controller. Since we don't know the price, that doesn't sound good at all.
@ElementX 2010 FIFA World Cup 3 on 3 NHL Arcade (6 players) All-Pro Football 2K8 Bomberman Ultra Buzz!: Quiz TV (requires 2 dongles for 5-8 players) Buzz! Quiz World (requires 2 dongles for 5-8 players) FIFA 08, FIFA 09, FIFA 10 FIFA Street 3 Hamsterball (has a zumo mode for up to 7 players offline) NBA 2K7, NBA 2K8, NBA 2K9, NBA 2K10 NHL 08, NHL 09, NHL 10 NHL 2K8, NHL 2K9, NHL 2K10 PixelJunk Racers Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, WWE Legends of WrestleMania, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 (6 players)
ElementX just showed why he will end up with one bubble.... disagreeing with proven facts. So sad.
all the games on that list have something in common they are all terrible more than half of that is EA sports.. i have still not seen any worth while games with more than 4 player support there have been plenty of potential games that would have been great but 4 got stuck as the magic number since the creation of online
Up to 7 bluetooth devices also means up to 7 DS3s O-T Wii-u will support up to 4 players like the previous N consoles, so what if you've a family of five? and wii-u support one tablet-controller per console, so what if the five in your family want to play with their own tablet-controller?
@CrazyForGames "all the games on that list have something in common they are all terrible " *looks at Bomberman Ultra* ....get off this internet crazy! >=C
Nintendo already stated that the new system only supports 1 Wii U controller, so Sony makes a fair point here.
It Only Does Everyone.
@KonaBro "...the main controller will not be available separately." With the above comment from Nintendo it appears you won't even have that option! Can't imagine not being able to buy another controller for your system forcing other players in your house to use the older controllers. Looks like they aren't focusing too much on local multiplayer games then with their new controller? Fail.
What if you have a family of eight? ;)
@ humbleopinion Then you need to spend money on contraception, not games consoles
. Sony loves to put their foot in their mouth...
@vulcanproject The more the merrier.
Man sometimes it pays not to be the first poster/commenter. Hopefully more ppl(in the gaming industry) will criticize Nintendo. Hopefully it will result in them allowing more than 1 tablet access the WiiU. They(Nintendo) should of know that there would be some backlash only allowing 1 tablet a console, guess thats why Nintendo said it won't sell individual controllers/tablet for the wiiU.
"What if you've got a family of six?" Maybe they could make a hot potato game with the tablet.
I've actually played 7-player PixelJunk racers battles. It was incredibly fun, but a bit difficult. I've only done it once though, but FIFA and a few other games support that many. PS2 did too, but you would need two multi-taps. PS1 I don't know, but I suppose. SO PS3 SUPPORTS UP TO SEVEN PLAYERS! AND THERE ARE POPULAR GAMES THAT DO TOO. So no denying that. But if If I were house I'd rather say. "What if there's two people and they both want a next-gen controller?" because that CAN (nintendo might find a brilliant solution) be a huge concept killer.
Ps3 move games support upto 20 players http://us.playstation.com/g...
20 people are not considered players in a dance game, thats a Rave lol
ROFL LOLOLLOLOLOL LMAO
AT least he admitted of being wrong. THat shows something..
Main story here is that Sony Fantroll trolling is mostly top down.
Did he really say something abou mimicry being a form of flattery? In this case, Nintendo should be flattered by Sony GREATLY
They allways have to rag on other companies just low, need to worry about their own backyard must have the fear.
He asked a legitimate question. Just because you didn't like the question and feel just as clueless as Nintendo gave no details, you feel threatened. Grow up.
the one who whips out the sword as fast as the one who whips out the shield is no different
Totally agree Earbus. Hey Sony, Sort out your Network and your poor excuse for Security as well as actually giving me new features with Firmware updates. When these happen, then you can bash the competition. I'll give MS their due. They haven't said a single thing against the WiiU yet. There's still time for Mr Greenburg to run his mouth though. Looks to me things aren't going too great at Sony HQ. They seem threatened by Nintendo.
LOL, I think Sony are laughing hard at this one. They have made the same mistake as Nintendo in the past and know exactly what they are doing. It's one thing to release a next gen console for $500, but to release a current gen console at this point in the generation cycle for 500$?? Gun.....Bullet....Foot....
Nintendo has to have an online service before it can get hacked.
"Nintendo has to have an online service before it can get hacked." And? What does that have to do with the point i made? The point i was making was that a company shouldn't criticise another company when said company's own crap doesn't exactly smell of Roses.
Because didn't Nintendo with there weak security just get hacked but who would know because it doesn't effect the non-existent online service unlike sony. Also sony's not bashing anyone he just asked a question because that's all nintendo left us with, questions.
thats coming from sony - who made the wii controller* i mean ps move controller which has just as many if not more accessories than the wii mote. sony copies more than it innovates. but hes right with his quote, they sure do love nintendo over there i wonder how many wiis they have in their company.
they did have motion tracking first, and AR, and console portable "transfarring". Maybe Nintendo & Sony secretly love eachother?
Oops..It's only Copying when Sony does it...
LOL i guess you didn't know Sony pioneered the CD,DVD and Blu-ray formats which the ps1,ps2,ps3,xbox,xbox360 and the wii use. I'd call that innovation need i say more.
o.o man if you are taking it to that level @InTheLab Just remember the quote if there was no nintendo videogames would be dead if there was no nintendo there would be no playstation. just remember those facts. we can do this Snes controller http://upload.wikimedia.org... Ps1 controller http://www.axess.com/twilig... nintendo whats that i spot L and R back buttons way back in the snes days similar design the ps1 has. oh whats this (n64) http://www.gamernode.com/up... New Ps1 controller http://www.gaminggeneration... N64 Rumble pack http://files.nintendic.com/... Ps2 with rumble feature http://img.diytrade.com/cdi... wii mote http://wii.mmgn.com/lib/Ima... ps move http://www.xbitlabs.com/ima... Also the classic controller imo is going back to Nintendo original snes like design with analog sticks. @Just_The_Truth yea they are so revolutionary with the game mediums that they went to cartridge on the psv over the umd. instead of pioneering a better umd.
In here are people who don't know the original PlayStation was the Nintendo PlayStation made jointly with Sony and Nintendo then Nintendo got scared of discs and dropped Sony's system and made the N64. so if things happened differently we could be playing the PSWII3 with move sharpshooters.
@Iforgotmylogin The point is, all companies take ideas and improve upon them. That's just good business. It would have been senseless for N to continue using Wii-motion exclusively. They needed another solution, so they copied the design of the Dualshock, which improved upon the classic design of the SNES controller. In the case of Move/Wii-mote, one company beat the other to the punch. I'm not trying to one up anyone here. It just bothers me that some pretend as if Nintendo has never "borrowed" an idea from it's competitors.
I like how some people will try to defend Nintendo, and put the blame on Sony for making a comment as such, EVEN though it is a LEGITIMATE question. Stop cowering, and face the fact. For like the sun, you can hide behind the blinds, but the sun still remains.
but how exactly is this a legitimate question ill give you 10 imaginary dollars if you can actually answer that all consoles only support 4 players as it is so i really don't get it also someone defending nintendo is no different than someone defending (insert name here)
A few PS3 games support more than 4 players, so you basically lied.
i liked about hat exactly? there is a difference between having the option for more than 4 players and actually SUPPORTING it again as i said all consoles only support 4 players
You basically lied because there are PS3 games that SUPPORT more than 4 players. Unless you have evidence that proves otherwise?
again like i said already there is a difference between having the option and actually supporting it after 5 years more than 60% of all games that use the option for more than 4 players are nothing but the same EA sports games that is hardly support whatsoever so i stand by what i said all consoles only support 4 players as it is
The Wii actually supported up to 5 players on certain Virtual Console games like Bomberman 93'.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... Games support it, and its more than EA's titles, regardless you can only use ONE Wii U controller anyway, while the other 3-4 people use wii-motes. The sad thing is those EA games that many people play locally will be useless unless you are playing online. The screen on the controller would be perfect for the madden crowd BUT you can only use one..... Forget 7 what about 2?
Micro Machines 96 on Mega Drive used to have 8 players, and many others using multi-taps. PS1 & PS2 allowed double multi-taps to be used to allow 8 players. PS3 allows 7 on lots of sports games.
after 5 years there are only 36 games on that list 20 of them are the same old EA sports games(19 if all pro isn't EA) 29 of them are again sports games in general the rest is 7 that so called support is terrible ever since online hit the scene local multiplayer has been and is still stuck at 4
@EYEamNUMBER1 So actually what you should really be saying is that all consoles only support one player because the majority of games are for single player not multiplayer experience?
@Legion games that support more than 4 players on the ps3 36 (29 of them repeat sports games) so 7 games that support more than 4 players on the wii 2 games that support more than 4 players on the 360 2 games that support 4 players on the wii,ps3,360 HUNDREDS single player is the default option for playing games while multiplayer (up to 4 players) gets and has been supported by the hundreds and thousands so again like i said many times already all consoles only SUPPORT 4 players as it is
You guys are overlooking the fact that there is a very good reason why most games top out at 4. For many, maybe most, genres of games you need to go split screen. Splitting the screen into 4 is ok, splitting the screen further will result in each player having less resolution than most cell phones. Plus you would need a fairly large TV to see what you're doing. If games were running at full quad HD you could split the screen into 3x3 and each player would have the equivalent of a 720p screen. But I think having 8 other views on the same screen would just be too distracting.
*facepalm Imagine splitting a screen more than 4 ways.... there is a good reason why it's mostly sports games, as they don't require you to split the screen. @EYEamNUMBER1 what you mean to say is, the consoles SUPPORT more than 4 players (up to 8 on PS3) but most games are capped at 4, due to splitting the screen. If a console only supported 4 there would not be any 7-8 player games would there???
if they added support for 6 people they would have just said what if you have a family of 7 if they added support for 7 they would have said 8 it can just go on and on
Wii U is not going to sell well in Pakistan, India or the Philippines.
If it supports 4 or more then I think that is more than enough. Were the Wii U fails is in supporting only one of the new controllers. That is it's main differentiating factor and only one person can use it. That as a dumb decision.
Its not bashing sony its bashing sony 4 bashing the competition again and again might explain why there loosing. Plus when u play online which is what WiiU is all about u never need more than 1 controller tell me a game where u need 2 controllers 4 online and name me 1 game that plays better in split screen than Online i know none so who cares about 6 players MP when the WiiU already has Ghost Reckon Online which is open online which trumps 6 players easy and 6 player games are casual games which Nintendo have covered with Wii.
COD:BO allows 2 players on 1 machine to play online. So does Resistance 2. & Pro-Evo / Fifa are better played with 6 people all together, drunk off their faces :)
Halo games are all much funner when you get a group of four people to jump online with you. As are any FPS games really. Even Gears of War is funner when you have split screen. And you can add all the Rainbow 6 games in the batch too. Now if you mean better by graphically superior... well then you are just pigeonholing games into one category aren't you? To only identify the new controller with the Wii U as a single player component then you have just lost a majority of the casual players that bought the Wii in the first place for the group experience. Now referencing 6 players was probably over kill... he could have made his point with a 4 player reference and it would have been just as relevant in his statement.
Well, if that's a legitimate question, then what if you've got a family of 8 and you want a PS3? Because, that's apparently legitimate, too, and not stupidly nitpicky. ...../s There are so many other question he could have asked about the Wii U that show how little we know and how there's a lot of potential for failure, instead of coming off as a nitpicker. As in, what if you've got a family of two?
How you got disagrees ... the world may never know.
I've got 4 Wii motes, and classic controllers with the same button config as the Wii U tablet controller. So beyond not everyone having the screen whats the problem?
I don't think the main problem is in families of six, they're probably used to sharing. :P But it will be annoying to be the second kid stuck with the wii-mote, if the cool part of the game is playing with the new controller wich the biggest kid will hog, or vice versa. So it is a problem. :P
Ever heard of LAN
Since when can I use 6 controllers at the same time in any game since bomberman on the snes? Oh on the wii u you can use 4 controllers. But as of right now just 1 of the tablet ones, but like miyamoto said that will be changing.
"...but like miyamoto said that will be changing." I have yet to hear anything about changing the amount of controllers available for the Wii U? I have only read references from Nintendo stating that the controller will NOT be offered seperatley for purchase. Can you post the references from Miyamoto so that we can read them? Thanks...
''what if you have a family of six?'' lol sony are so hypacritical. and all you morons saying ps3 and vita can = wiiu, this statement from sony invalidates your claim. if wiiu is unrealistic for a family, then so is a vita and ps3. or is it different because its sony? jesus christ!
@pcz There's a bunch of things wrong with your statement: 1) Console vs handheld. 2) PS3 DOES support more than 4 players. 3) The 1 controller per Wii U is actually a legit issue.
no his statement is right since sony fan boys like to compair vita to a controler XD which is sad for vita dat its compairing to a remote lol
