Sony upbeat on electronics, sees larger game loss.

Sony Corp said the operating margin at its electronics operations is expected to beat its target for the year to March, but operating loss at its videogame unit will likely be double its initial forecast. Operating loss at its game unit, which offers loss-making PlayStation 3 game gear, is estimated to exceed 100 billion yen

($876 million) for the current business year, compared with its original projection of 50 billion yen, a Sony spokeswoman said.

Isn't this the third time that report of losses in the games division for Sony that has been approved now.

Ignorant Fanboy6014d ago

Its kind of like the sales numbers that get approved all the time, even though they are the same numbers.

Death6014d ago

Maybe hold off judgement for another year, eh?

Edit: No problem man.

Death6014d ago

That was supposed to be a reply to Ron's comment on the original Xbox's losses. Appearantly he's comparing the PS3 to the Xbox which is a little early. ;)

FirstknighT6014d ago

Sony's game division is in the red and Microsofts game division is in the green. Oh how times have changed.

vaan6014d ago

You know Sony can absorb that deficit easy as MS absorbed that HUGE failure of a console....what was it called? Oh yeah, the XBOX.

RonDeMuerte6014d ago

The Xbox console was a massive failure......it barely sold a quarter of what the PS2 has achieved....hahahaha and that console had two Halo games!!!! hahahaha

timmyrulz6014d ago

Why would you come out with such a stupid comment about the 360 been a failure? i think you will find that 13.5 million consoles sold is far more than 5.5 million sold, its comments like that what makes fanboys look such stupid richards not to mention 10 years old

RonDeMuerte6014d ago

It's comments like yours that let people know how retarded you are.......you halfwit fanboy.....

AIZEN SOZUKE6014d ago

13.5 mil? more like 11 0r 12 mil, and ps3 has sold over 6 and 3/4 mil less than half time on market, with no major exclusives released, which system is the failure? you tell me?

DEADEND6014d ago

Well said my friend that is why I know SONY will domante next year.

Arrancar for life.

Lionsguard6014d ago

The PS3 sales are no different than XBOX360 sales were at 1 year ago so how is this a failure? and the PS3 cost twice as much and had barely any games to play!

kspraydad6014d ago

for THIS YEAR it would seem to indicate that they are expecting to SELL alot more PS3s than they originally planned..since they are loosing money on each.

From a short term 1 year perspective this news is actually positive!

Gina-get-u6014d ago

You get the gold star kiddo. That is 100% correct. The bigger losses are anticipated from an increase in subsidized console sales.

Gamespot-equals-EGM6014d ago

Never thought about it that way (selling more ps3's means a greater loss).

But I think the loss per ps3 for the 40gb is much less. Sony might actually be breaking even on the 40gb's b/c I think they have 65nm chips (rather than 90nm in the older ps3's). Plus the motherboard in the 40gb chip is smaller and simpler (Graphic synthesizer chip for ps2 BC removed).

Death6014d ago

Sony has stated more than once that PS3 sales are not what they expected. The loss is coming from a combination of a very low attach rate and multiple price cuts in all regions. Cutting console prices within the first year is not common. Cutting them multiple times and redesigning hardware is also not common this early in a consoles life cycle. Right now Sony is doing everything they can to reduce costs and move consoles. The world is not coming to an end, but the PS3 is not selling nearly as well as Sony had anticipated. If you are a PS3 owner and want to help, buy some games already. The console is much better than what the attach rate shows.

Tales Of Graces Ƒ Retro Review – Holding Out For a Hero

Gary Green said: Namco Bandai heard the call of many fans asking for the PlayStation release of Tales of Graces which was originally released seemingly exclusively for the Wii back in 2009. If you’re acquainted with the Tales series then Graces f won’t be something entirely new to you, yet if you’re a newcomer then you’ll find a plethora of gameplay mechanics and nuances that distinguish this series from other JRPGs. While the game finds itself following the traditional archetype of JRPGs, such as a somewhat clichéd story, Graces has something to offer to both veterans and newcomers alike.

Paying Extra For Early Access Cannot Be The Industry Norm

Charging for early access has started to become a regular practice in several AAA games, and the gaming community should not tolerate this.

Don’t uh… don’t pay for it then? 🤷‍♂️ It’s 3 days early, let people who can’t wait pony up to pay for early access. I’d hope people have more control over themselves if they don’t want to pay extra. I personally, do not see an issue with the option. If I’m hyped for a game and they give you early access, I’ll pay. If it’s something I can wait to play on “actual release” I won’t pay extra. It’s as simple as that.

Crows909h ago

Except your entirely mistaken if you think it's "early access"

Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible.

Obscure_Observer7h ago

"Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible."

Not really.

In some cases, paying for early access will grant you access to play those games at the same time media outlets and reviewers are playing their copies.

Besides, it´s a single player game. It´s not like early access to MP competitive games like Battlefield which EA would grant a full week early access to those willing to pay; which gives a unfair advantage to those gamers and breaks the game´s balance.

CrimsonWing697h ago

are you playing it earlier than retail release?

If that’s the correct answer, how is it not early access?

Crows909h ago

It's not early access...it's playing on release...early access is when the game isn't finished and needs a little more time...you also get it months in advance.

Let's not get confused here..

Andrew3365h ago

You get access to the game before it goes live for people who purchased the standard version of the game... thus you are getting early access.

Crows904h ago

Nope...you get access to the game the day it goes live. Those who didn't pay extra are blocked from accessing it as a punishment for not paying full price

VersusDMC8h ago

Microsoft has been doing premium edition early access for awhile(Forza and Starfield recently) ...so why is it an issue now when Ubisoft does it?

It can't be the gamepass excuse as Ubisoft has day one subscriptions as well.

Obscure_Observer7h ago

I´ve paid for Starfield´s Premium Edition to get early access to the game, plus Shattered Space expansion.

I don´t regret my decision and I mighty pay for it again to get early access to Fable and TESVI.

Andrew3365h ago

@VincentVanBro yea like the kind of idiots who worry about how adults spend their money.

Crows904h ago

@andrew

Just like the kind of idiots who get scammed and don't realize it.

Andrew3361h ago

@crows do you understand what the word scam means? Choosing to pay more money to play a game before other people is not being scammed.

gold_drake7h ago

as long as people are paying for it, it will be a thing unfortunately.

the fear of missing out is ... huge. especially online.

CrimsonWing697h ago

I don’t think it’s about missing out. Think of it like a movie you’re hyped for. You can see it early if you pay extra or just wait until Friday when it officially releases.

It’s nothing more than that.

Crows904h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Nope. You're not seeing it early. Everyone else is seeing it late.

When a product releases to the public...that's the release date. If they company then chooses to block access to the product unless you pay extra...that's not early access...that's day 1 access.

CrimsonWing693h ago(Edited 3h ago)

@Crows90

No, there’s a public release date and an early release date. Just like with movies having early screenings and then public screenings.

They let the public know the release date and then give people an option to play early by paying more.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai1d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing6911h ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle10h ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal9h ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

Abnor_Mal6h ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing18h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.
