Wii U: Wii Remote Compatibility Detailed

At last night's official unveiling of Nintendo forthcoming Wii U console, the company stated that the console would be backwards compatible with Wii software and accessories. Since then, rumours that the system may only support Wii RemotePlus controllers have begun circulating, but a new statement from Nintendo has doused those flames.

The kind of avoided that one
“Each Wii U console will be partnered with a new controller and can also use up to four additional Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus controllers"

So can it use more than one Wii U controller. I suspect not from that answer

VampiricDragon2747d ago (Edited 2747d ago )

its vague.

They havent said.

It would be dumb if you couldnt

and its not something thats likely permanent.

mamotte2747d ago

Sadly for us, It's kinda confirmed that it'll be only one. If you think about it, it's not so dumb, ot even PC could do that: The console need to send graphics to the tv, and process the information of the wiimotes there. Plus, it need to process and send graphics to the controller, and process what happens there separately. That alone, I suposse is far more demanding that 3d gaming.

Now, if you got 4 controllers.... it need to be really a beast of machine. Or maybe it's possible, if the four controllers are seeing exactly the same with just minor changes. But the DS do that.

In this day and age it shouldn't be hard to get more than one controller able to play on a video game console, its been done since the first playstation in 1995 and even earlier..

Use common sense and your eyes please. We're not talking about normal controls. We're talking about controls with screens.

PC users can connect just three monitors at a time, processing one game, from a single point of view.

Now, we're asking a console (wich is supossed to be cheaper than a high end PC)to process 4 graphics signals, send it separately to each controller, and analize what happens in each one of'em. That using just the controllers, now add, idk, a signal for a HD tv.

It's almost like playing four different games at a time, you know? Common sense.

They would be making a huge mistake if they didn't allow support for multiple WiiU controllers.

macky3012747d ago (Edited 2747d ago )

See I agree,.. but the problem is,.. The console would have to render every thing x-times, with all the game logic computation (because we are in x different places in the game world) and then probably compress-stream to each of controllers,..

Well maybe it isn't,.. they can go around that like with split screen,.. with reduction of visual quality,...

Hope there is more controllers,..

but I really see some big technical hurdles,.. with bandwidth and lag with real time streaming, rendering and computing..

Emilio_Estevez2747d ago (Edited 2747d ago )

We still don't know how much a controller costs either. No one will be buying 3 or 4 if they are $150-200

ChickeyCantor2747d ago

I dont think you can buy the controller.
Each unit comes with a Wiiu tablet, thats it.

Simco8762747d ago

Its going to be hard to push two screens out of that console on two different WiiU controllers. Wireless HDMI is promising though. I wonder what signals they are going to use?

The real question is, how long will the WiiU last? Is it something that can keep with the next gen from Sony and Microsoft? Can the WiiU last till 2020 or is it just something to fill the gap?

Darkseeker2747d ago

They're obviously gonna be able to keep up with this current generation, but both Sony and Microsoft will come up with something much more powerful for the enxt generation, making this look like another wii.

Otheros002746d ago

It is another Wii. It has Wii in the name.

AWBrawler2746d ago

I think they are still working on it to where it can use multiple Wii U controllers, so they are hush hush about it

one WiiU controller per console?
no gamecube controller support?

No thanks.

AWBrawler2746d ago

where is any of that confirmed. I think it can play gamecube games, and if the cube can have 4 GBA's plugged to it, why couldn't this have 4 Wii U controllers?

tunaks12746d ago

omg people its old news...

no gamecube controller support

"multiplayer games being created for the system are only being designed to accomodate one Wii Ucontroller
other players have to use Wiimotes"

now lets see if microsoft and sony will do the same in their next gen.

jwk942746d ago

but ms and sony dont have hundreds of accessories like nintendo does.

MasterCornholio2746d ago

Only one Wii U controller per Wii U? That cant be right Nintendo would never do something like that.

AWBrawler2746d ago

Even if it's only 2, i believe they'll be able to handle more than one

MasterCornholio2746d ago

It would the idea of the Wii. Did Nintendo say that Wii meant comming together and having fun? So if the Wii U can only connect to one controller then it goes against the idea of the Wii.

Anyways i am pretty sure that Nintendo isnt stupid enough to release a console that only supports one Wii U controller. It would be suicide for them to do that.

MoreRPG2746d ago

so how powerfull the Wii U controller is???
