Interview with Forza Motorsport game director Dan Greenawalt, who talks abut the new features of the game and why community is the most important part of Forza 4.
Not really a racing sim if the racing is the smallest part of it...
Beat me to it. lol Saying racing is "the smallest part of Forza 4" doesn't seem like a good way to attract "racing" fans. haha I find it funny that they try to make the community sound more important than the actual racing itself. I mean, yeah, the community is important, but there's still alot of people that play this game offline only, I'd be willing to bet. @rezzah lol haha Apparently.
Apparently less racing is what racing "fans" like...
Remember photography, car collection, licenses, special events, B-Spec etc in GT5 all have nothing to do with racing.
WOW... :| Good one...
Everything you just mentioned is apart of racing, aside from the photos. You need a license to drive, you have special event's, racers do collect cars. Cause @the end of the day, if you don't know when to brake and take corners like your suppose to yout not finishing in first. The fact the this Guy says racing is the smallest part is a shot to the face.
Added features, not like they took away or reduced the racing part of the game. It's about innovation not reducing.
U jus trollin GT5 with every 4za article then? There both good, get over it.
Why do you think forza even exists?... because M$ wanted their version of gt. Trying to claim you innovated more than the game you tried to emulate so badly is idiotic, but what do you expect from just turned10
Sure community is important... if you play online.
Great game, il pre order it. I will get into some serious racing this year.
Is that yes at it's core it is a racing game, but what makes this game great is the community and the features that make racing more enjoyable like tuning and painting. Stop being a bunch of trolls. Here come the PS3 fanboys disagreeing. BOTTOM LINE Without the community(online or offline) the game itself means nothing, like a cult movie without a cult without the cult it's just a crappy old movie. Forza 4 is what it is today because of the community and Dan Greenawalt is saying is that the community is more important to the franchise than anything else.
i liker racing more than anything else. Which is why i prefer Burnout and would rather play Mario kart than this. i could look at pretty cars at a car show
less racing and wider tracks. I tried to resist, but I trolled, I is sorry.
Wait a racing sim game and the racing itself is the smallest part of it?!? Am I missing some sort of logical point here or is it that that statement makes no sense what-so-ever?
Might help to read the article... Oh wait can't expect most the people on N4G to have the attention span to do anything more then read the title...........
Ohhh but I did read the article and still am not sure is the statement makes any sort of sense. The community is the the biggest part of the game? Well it is a well received game with an online component so it would be bound to have a fixed community. But it still remains a racing sim and that is what it should focus on. Community is part of a racing game and not racing is part of a community game if you catch my draft. The game is not the same as,let's say lbp which the community created levels are the main attraction,it's a game about realistic driving. On a totally unrelated note why do you seem so defensive? Did I bashed the game, the console it is on or...well just about anything else? I think me wanting to question a seemingly illogical statement is justified. You REALLY need to losen up a little.
Well just read the whole qoute for more context: “Racing is actually the smallest component of the game. It’s about community, and bringing people together. We don’t want you to put the car down. We don’t want you to unlock the Ferrari and forget your GTI. We want you to be able to upgrade that GTI and go racing, paint it and fall in love with it the same way you did with your very first car. “That’s affected our vision from the very beginning. While business-wise, this was about the Xbox, and this was about owning racing. From a team perspective this is about turning gamers into car lovers, and car lovers into gamers.” -Well of course some will no doubt read more into than necessary, but it just sounds like a guy with alot of passion about cars pouring his heart out in an interview....MORE importantly Forza's track record speaks for itself, the fact is EVERY other Forza has had great driving physics which the majority of past reviews will point out and every installment has raised the bar beyond its predecessor. So no reason to believe that a guy this passionate about racing is going to forget what built that community first and foremost= great racing, but I think most diehard Forza fans like myself completely understand his point that Forza has evolved into much more than racing around tracks over and over again, the community is a huge part of what makes it fun, hell I've spent days just looking at the custom paint jobs fellow gamers have created, still nobody involved with Forza4 would think for 1 second that Forza fans wouldn't mind if the driving mechanics took a backseat just because the community features have become so popular, unless of course you have a motive to WANT to believe Turn10 will digress in the racing aspect simply because they think the community is that important, lol I mean it just makes sense to assume that in this particular interview he wants to emphasize how important the community is to the Forza franchise....thats it.
@JokesOnYou Mate you pretty much agreed with me and didn't quite realize it. You said it yourself, the fact that forza has a large community IS because it is good at what it does...racing simulation. It would not have the community it has if it sucked at its main point which is racing. And why do you imply that I have some sort of motive for forza to fail? Isn't it pretty clear that I only want to talk about that particular statement? I never made any disregarding marks about the game if anything my take on it is positive. Sigh last bubble I have to get around on getting more of those wretched things. Well anyway if you feel like continuing this discussion feel free to pm me... Edit:a couple grammar mistakes fixed
@TheComedian You're such a troll. Your trolling statements are making me ill. They're really that bad and annoying.
it's funny, when i see the director of a racing game saying racing is the least important part of the game, i find myself concerned. the core gameplay of your game should be the top priority, all the rest should be built on top of that. is it a racing game that features car customisation and sharing, or a car customisation and showing off game that happens to feature racing? is it about just making the cars look nice or making them drive better? now i doubt the game will be bad or anything like that, but it's hardly reassuring when the director of the game is talking like that, i've seen games where the focus wasn't where it needed to be and the game suffered for it.
