Despite the generally decent reviews that Red Faction: Armageddon has been receiving lately, Best Buy's official gaming magazine really doesn't seem to like the game very much, comparing it to the abysmal Thor.
Well what the hell do they know. That magazine sucks.
Since when did best buy get a gaming Mag. This is the first i heard.
I've played Thor, and there is no way that Armageddon is as terrible as Thor.
The game was a step back from Guerilla. No open world gameplay made this game a no buy for me
Well, I definitely agree that it is not as good as Guerrilla, but it is also nowhere near as terrible as Thor. I don't think that's even possible.
Wait wait wait. Best Buy has a gaming mag? Ugh.
"They go so far as to say the game is "a step backwards" compared to Guerrilla and that Armageddon's apparent goal was to be like every other third-person shooter. They call the first half of the game "dull" and the second half "intolerable." They hate the cast of characters and call the story "aimless" and full of plot holes." - Sounds accurate.
I loved the original and guerrila, but the demo of this one sucked badly to me. I felt the same way about them trying to make it into a linear 3rd person shooter, but it felt cheap compared to quality 3rd person titles and the destruction seemed like only a bunch of decorative pipes and walkways that you had to rebuild in the demo. I liked destroying huge buildings in the last one, and its also retarded to not add destructibility to the rocks now that the game is underground again. Even RF on PS2 had destruction to caves and rock, this game needs that too if its going to be underground. Ohh yeah, and the new bug enemies were lame and seemed to just wait for me to kill them. edit-- I think their score for this is accurate, its THOR that deserves a lower score, but this game seems to deserve whatever low score it got, and I am someone who probably liked the original RF and guerrilla more than most did.
I will agree that it does seem like a step backwords, taking out the open world was a dumb idea, IMO. But the game cant be as bad as a movie based game
I have Guerilla and picked up this one today. It may be linear and not open world but the action is more focused, the destruction is better, the graphics are better, it's true there is not much of a story, but the infestation mode is cool and the weapons are really cool to use. Don't knock the game until you have played the retail build. It's a fun title to create mayham. Lastly the magnet gun is one of the most fun weapons I have seen in an action game in awhile
Well its a good thing 'WalMart Gamer Monthly' gave it 2 redneck thumbs up! Best Buy Magazine...are you kidding me?
