A shocking announcement by Sony during their E3 press conference, confirmed that the PlayStation Vita would have full on cross-game chat support. So what’s the deal with the lack of cross-game chat support on the PS3?
I think we might get an epic PS3 firmware update with these features soon when Vita Releases. think about it. it would make sense.
agree right when vita launches expect a new firmware update to allow compatibility with vita and the new cross chat function
not sure but maybe they cant put it on the PS3 for some reason, maybe memory or chat channel issues.
i doubt it, its a minor feature that i do enjoy on the 360, and would def enjoy on the ps3. If they dont release it soon, its gonna be pointless putting it out with the announcements of next gen.
Since ps3 release some desperate people are claiming that soon there will be an update with crossgamechat. I say bullshit, I think it isnt possible, because else Sony would have already released it. These claims doesnt help anyone.
Its bc of the limited RAM. Also bc Sony is a hardware company. M$ is a software company, they make better faster software. This includes an XMB that takes half the memory as the PS3s XMB. Ive also heard a rumor that M$ own the patent to crossgame chat, but who knows
I think it might be possible on Vita and not PS3 because they gave the PS3 less memory to perform background functions, and gave most of it to devs, which is too late to change now lol. They prob gave Vita a specific amount of memory for background functions such as this, which is probably more than the PS3 got for that. I wouldn't be surprised if Vita actually has more memory than PS3 anyway..
well seeing it on the PSV is a good sign
that keeps saying the PS3 cannot do "cross game chat" that is bogus, why because it already does ..you may ask how? simple if you logged into playstation Home you would know you can. we can already do group chat of 8 people while playing games in playstation Home. unless the game needs the r2 button you can cross voice chat cross Playstation Home games
And yet you'd think the announcement of it during their apology, which came along with a new 3rd party video service, would have been nothing but a megaton. Though thinking about it might have overshadowed everything else. Given how much people beg for the damn thing. Maybe they are saving it till the PSV is out.
beg but don't get.... i want the feature, but its getting to the point that's its too late.
"Ive also heard a rumor that M$ own the patent to crossgame chat, but who knows" I've heard this rumour before, if true I imagine MS only have patent on this for consoles not handhelds, hence why its on vita and not PS3.
Assclown20 stop with your rubbish the XMB uses 65mb of ram no where near half.
Yea it's crazy how the Vita has Cross game chat but the PS3 doesn't. Maybe Sony will let us hook up our PSV to our PS3's and just use it's chat that way?
I think, later it will have. PS3 with PS Vita users in the same lobby.
If Vita has crosss game chat and PS3 doesn't is simply because PS3 can't do cross-game chat. PS3 is doing stuff like 3D when the console wasn't created to render 3D to begin with and that kind of stuff takes resources from the console. You know, like ram...
im startiing to believe this sony have known for years what we want and i think they won't say its not possible as they fear the response
sony has known for years but nothing
the PS3 does indeed do cross game chat..it's only in playstation Home at the moment for access but it's there..i got a disagree in my post above but sadly that person who ever they are does not use playstaion Home because if they did they would know im telling the truth! so if the playstation 3 can Run Home an have 8 player group chat an do cross voice playstation Home "game" chat that shows for a fact yes it can! people that are disagreeing are doing it to disagree are doing a disservice by telling people it cannot do it because for a fact it can. it seems unlike some here I do use playstation Home an I do know what Im talking about.
FYI THE PS3 3D IS LIKE THE PC'S NVIDIA JUST UPDATED THE PS3 LIKE THE PC CARDS THERE IS VERY LITTLE RAM UPGRADE USAGE. ALSO THE DEVS STILL ARE NOT FORCED TO PUT FEATURES IN AND SUPPORT EXTRAS IF YOU LOOK BACK IN 2009 THERE WAS RUMORS AND SOME CONFORMATION OF CROSS GAME CHAT BUT IT WASN'T PUT IN BECAUSE EA WOULDN'T SUPPORT IT. READ B4 U BASH. http://kotaku.com/5347123/i... that is 2 yrs old
lol check my comment history
down bubble because you post 2007 facts read my above post.
... My question is: Who cares? :O I got an X360, and I use Skype with my PC or my AndroidPhone to (video)chat with people. Who cares if Ps hasn't got it? I do really not feel the necessity for it. Anyway, I think they'll never give this feature. They aren't interested in it, IMHO.
"Well because I use an alternative, it means no one else should want it"
Maybe you don't but alot of people do. Cross game chat is the best feature of xbox live, and if it actually comes, it will the best feature of PSN.
Can I ask you why? Am I wrong supposing your X360 is made for gaming, and not for phoning some friends?
The main reason it is the best feature is because you can talk to your friends while playing different games. i.e being able to talk without having to play the same game. I guess if i had no friends it would be a useless feature but that is not the case. And i'm not talking about strangers here, i'm talking about real life friends that you actually enjoy talking too.
I have those too, and I honestly hope Cross game chat comes, but only for those that want to use it. I see my single player games as just that, a singular, solitary experience. I play to watch the plot unfold, listen to the dialogue etc and I can't do that when talking to a friend. Maybe I'm a dying breed.
I don't know we keep asking and we are not getting no reply I'm starting to lose hope
Cross Game Chat not all that to me. When I had a 360 I probably used it 2 times then I stop using it. Getting chat invites really got annoying. If the PS3 gets it some day good becuz I know some people want it but I don't think I'll use it. I might use it only if some friends are playing the same game. That's why Home was made. I actually prefer Home over cross game chat. I've meant a lot of cool people on Home. When I feel like chatting I send pm's or talk on Home. When I play games I like to concentrate on what I'm playing. Like when I'm playing MLB the Show I don't want to talk to someone playing COD. That's just me.
Yeah, I don't like the idea of people inviting me to chats randomly since they can do it from anywhere, as I'm one of those people who doesn't like to offend anyone by repeatedly turning them down... but will. I'd be happy for people who really want it, but it'd be a little annoying for me. That said, I don't think it's going to happen if it hasn't by now. If they haven't already, Sony will begin working on their next console soon, I'd expect to see it by 2013. It's probably too much of a challenge to try to get it to run on the available PS3 resources. In-game XMB runs slow as it is, imaging if there are other system functions running on top of it. I'm pretty sure it's just not possible, or way too much hassle.
Vita was built with this in mind from the get go. With the Playstation, they did not plan to even have an in-game XMB, originally. So in short, they didn't allocate very many system resources at all, for stuff like this to take place during gameplay. So with the PS3, they're struggling to fit this kind of functionality into the very limited system resources they have. I'm sure it's still, theoretically on the cards. Like I'm sure they're still making an effort to optimise the XMB, to fit a cross game chat functionality on there... but it seems unlikely that that'll be possible considering the situation...
Perfectly said. Not that you need it, but have a bubble.
Give this man a cookie!!! Oh wait have a bubble :)
You mean the PS3 isn't all powerful and mighty? Blasphemy!
Well it makes sense, wasnt that also one of the reasons they took OtherOS away for more RAM?
honestly no, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE BY NOW. We asked for it 3-4 years ago and they heard us loud and clear. Something is stopping them. It doesnt take 2-3 years to make it.
I hope they put it in simply because other ps3 users seem to really want it. I'm honestly not being rude, why don't you just use your cell phones? I mean... Doesn't that make sense? *I asked a simple, serious question and you don't have the respect to even respond. Just clicked that little button.
Allelujah I'm not alone :D
Ummm...what if I use something like a Turtle Beach headset while gaming? How in the heck am I supposed to use a phone?
Ummmmm.. Thanks for being rude. Geez.
@Jack-Dangerously I really wasn't trying to be rude. If I was, I probably would have added a few swear words lol.
Yes we will see cross game chat on ps4 and it will be on it from launch day... It's type sad in a way 2011 and Sony still doesn't have it SMH.
So yeah, this message from us PS3 owners across the globe will probably never get through Sony's thick heads. It would be disappointing to see it make its first appearance on the PS4 wouldn't it? I'm also curious as to what is stopping them.
The main reason I like party chat on the 360 is that I don't have don't waste time muting the assholes in multiplayer games I play. I can just listen to my friends. For the people saying that they don't want to be distracted while playing, well, there could always be a feature to cut notifications off like on the 360. Just saying... Like others, I would love an explanation by Sony just to see what the whole deal is. If cross game chat is not possible, that's fine, I just want to know why.
We could see cross platform chat!
I'd like to see an answer as to 'why not?', That's all really. If they can't then so be it, but it's one of the biggest draw-cards of XBL. I love party/cross game voice chat. The versatility of it is difficult to describe until you've used it yourself. As for whether it's too late to add it. I certainly disagree with that. Big multiplayer releases this year alone. I'd like to see even a mention that it's a possibility.
Well this pretty much confirms cross chat will never come to PS3. It was this E3 or never. I don't know why but Sony is starting to annoy me. PS3 should have both cross chat and PS2 backwards compatibility and the PS3 is obviously capable of doing both but Sony doesn't want to give us our most wanted feature. Its why they are last this gen which is surprising since they pretty much owned gaming back on PS1 and PS2.
You sounded like me before I decided to use my 360 again as my main console due to the lack of this feature. seriously half of the people on my PS3 friend list dont even know what I sound like, seeing that they dont have the same games as me.
I had always heard that Microsoft had the rights to cross-game chat on consoles and Sony has been trying to negotiate a fair price but Microsoft is would only let Sony use it if Sony paid so many millions of dollars.
At one point, i believed Sony would actually give us something like Cross Game Chat. Now? not so much.
Im not really interested in cross game chat but party chat with friends over games would be cool. its the one thing i miss about not having an xbox. me and my mates in a private chat while playing Battlefield. Still dont think it will happen tho.
They think this'll sell their portable system?
It only does everything, Except cross game chat.
I've lost all hope. You would think that after 5 years of begging they'd have it by now, and I'm REALLY beginning to think it's a technical issue that can't quite be resolved without new hardware, or a brand new infrastructure of the ps3's software. This means XMB>>>OUT. Fresh and new interface IN. Even though i've grown to love the simple and effective interface, it just won't work if they want to compete with MS. The will need a more comfortable and visually intriguing interface.
