PlayStation Vita Release Will Result In 3DS Price Drop (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): The biggest surprise from Sony's E3 press conference had nothing to do with Uncharted 3, Resistance or LittleBigPlanet.

Instead, it was all about PlayStation Vita, the company's next generation handheld.

More specifically, the shocking announcement that the Wi-Fi version will retail for $249.99, with a 3G edition for $299.99.

The story is too old to be commented.

Nintendo has no choice but to drop the price eventually. The Vita offers way more. End of story.

VampiricDragon2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

just like the ds and psp. They both offer different games and features.

the ngp doesnt launch in 1 region for at least 4 and a half months. That gives nintendo plenty of time to drop the price

you also have to remember the vita will be more expensive in japan/europe with more expensive games anyway.

"Vita and 3DS are the same price in Japan. "
No they arent.

As a multi system owner who plans on owning both handhelds, its easy to get lost in the euphoria of E3. But doubting nintendo is stupid.

ImmortalLegend2745d ago

Well I didn't mean right away lol.

Vita and 3DS are the same price in Japan.

What was missing was a Monster Hunter...

Announcemennt incoming at TGS I'm sure.

Pedobear Rocks2745d ago

The official 3DS price on Nintendo's website in Japan is 25k Yen.

The official announced price of the Vita Wifi in Japan is 24.980 Yen

What is your understanding of the word 'same'?

Ju2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

3DS in Europe Euro 249? What's your point? (Both incl. VAT, which US price does not include - which can be up to 22%)

Knushwood Butt2745d ago

I don't doubt that Nintendo will drop the price of the 3DS.

It has no target audience. Nintendo haven't got a clue who they are trying to sell it to.

Furthermore, if the Project Cafe pads themselves can be used as handhelds, surely they are creating their own competition....

VampiricDragon2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

@knushwood

Its pretty much 100 percent chance they will drop the price. They always do

"It has no target audience. Nintendo haven't got a clue who they are trying to sell it to."

After 25 years of dominance your really doubting nintendo in portables? They know what they are doing.

"Furthermore, if the Project Cafe pads themselves can be used as handhelds, surely they are creating their own competition.... "

Apparently they can only be used for select features when taken out. Its not like playing full console games. It will mostly be used for in game stuff (menues, different views, ect). And even if it was. Different libraries.

Knushwood Butt2745d ago

'Its pretty much 100 percent chance they will'

Yep

'After 25 years of dominance your really doubting nintendo in portables? They know what they are doing'

Instead of posting what looks like Nintendo PR, please explain exactly who the 3DS is targeted at.

'They can only be used for select features when taken out. Its not like playing full console games. It will mostly be used for in game stuff.'

Source? If that's the case, then it's a lame idea. They tried that back with the GC. Remember? You could connect a GBA to certain games. It was crap (I actually paid for that over priced cable garbage).

'And even if it was'

?? You just said it wasn't, so why go on to say, 'even if it was'?

'Different libraries'

And that's somehow not competing with themselves?

there has already been a stealth price drop.. you can get a 3ds around 20% cheaper than when they first launched..

in the uk 3ds are easily bought for around £160.. approx 20% cheaper than the average selling price at launch

LordStig2745d ago

drop the price after being available around the world for little over a month?

TheEatingChampagne2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

@ImmortalLegend, as much as I want to reply to your stupidness, I won't.

OT, I'd buy the 3DS even if it costed 50$ more than the PSP Vita..
Last generation I had enough money to buy a PSP, I bought it and I regret ever doing it.. Games stopped coming out, developers stopped supporting it and it was too damn big..
Guess what? The games that were released to it are now coming out to the PS3.. You have a very promising future with that Vita guys..
Anyway, I bought the DS and I can't be more happy.. Sure, the graphics and the specs are inferior but goddamn this console is so great..
Can't wait to get the 3DS once it has more games

Pedobear Rocks2745d ago

PSP has been, for the last 6 mos or so, eating DS/3DS's lunch in Japan. Now Sony drops a hardware superior product within 6 months of the 3DS at the same price and you don't expect NIN to react with a price drop?

VampiricDragon2745d ago

"PSP has been, for the last 6 mos or so, eating DS/3DS's lunch in Japan."

And thats not suprising considering its the cheapest option. The gba and psp outsold the ds at launch for 2 years.

Knushwood Butt2745d ago

Wii is the cheapest console in Japan but it's still getting owned.

Well, by the PS3 anyway..

ImmortalLegend2745d ago

Yeah man, you're right the PSP was a failure /s The 3DS is a gimmick, an overpriced one at that.

beast242tru2745d ago

vita will beat out the 3ds once the games are rite and the price is rite and by the way things look sony has everything in the bagg and guess what? it works with the ps3 perfectly so i see alot of sales for the ps3 and vita nintendo new console better do something like what sony is doing with thier two flagships
