The Gamersheep.com writes "I came to E3 this year looking for a few different things and hopefully to answer a few questions.
First among them is if Microsoft still cares about the hardcore market.

Lets count shall we? This list is talking console games.

God of War games this gen? 1
Kill Zone games this gen? 2
Gran Turismo games this gen? 1
Uncharted games this gen? 3
Infamous games? 2
Little Big Planet games? 2
Metal Gear games? 1
Socom games? 2

Now lets take MS big games

Gears of war games this gen? 3
Halo games this gen? 5 (once Halo 4 is released)
Forza games this gen? 4
Fable games? 3 (once the journey is released)

thats a pretty big difference if you ask me.

LOGICWINS2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

Microsoft probably purposely does this for business reasons. The MAJORITY of hardcore gamers this generation buy multiplatform games such as Call of Duty and Madden.

Why spend money on exclusives when the majority of your fanbase will buy multiplatform games?

Because Microsoft markets COD as an exclusive, they have the luxury of piggybacking on two or three major exclusive franchises.

With COD, Halo, and Gears, M$ pleases the MAJORITY of their hardcore fanbase, so now they want to focus on Kinect to get casual gamers on board.

It may not be what the informed hardcore 360 minority wants...but it makes perfect business sense on Microsoft's part.

"The MAJORITY of hardcore gamers this generation buy multiplatform games such as Call of Duty and Madden."

my fail o meter reading : OVER 9000 !!

Like really ??
madden and COD ?
hardcore ??

@ topic
hardcore gamers want MORE
more verity and more new things
halo is nice but milking it and feeding the fans same thing over and over and over gets old with times
killing ensemble studio = NOT COOL and NOT caring for hardcore gamers

@ below
hard core gamers (as i see it) are all about good fun games WITH NO GIMMICK and NO BS
just straight to the point
point a to b
good game good graphics good mechanics
engaging story and good MP

and most certenly
no rehashes AND NO BROKEN GAMES like COD and Madden

madden > played by sports fan which most of the time they play nothing but that
COD > what to say more ?? its COD
like the HUGE aim assist alone can make it a casual game

and about those millions
here look at this
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

wow look at those views
im sure ppl that listen to this are pretty "hardcore" music ppl
i mean they listen to classics like this you just cant be wrong lol

COD is main stream
just like what you see on those vids
now a days the ""cool"" boys play COD
and its all hype

i know ppl that know nothing about video games yet they know COD

like apple stuff
even if it sucks and cost 1000$
ppl well buy it
just like that

LOGICWINS2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

@captain obvious- Just curious. Whats your definition of a hardcore game?

"hardcore gamers want MORE"

Correction:

SOME hardcore gamers want MORE..the MAJORITY don't care. If what you said was true, games like COD wouldn't be selling more and more every year.

Your not looking at the big picture. You think that the only people who are considered "hardcore" are the gaming minority who keep themselves up to date on gaming news on N4G.

Not the case.

There are 20-30 million COD fans out there who spend at least a dozen hours a week playing COD..who are you to say they can't be considered hardcore?

"hard core gamers (as i see it) are all about good fun games WITH NO GIMMICK and NO BS"

The impression that a game has a "gimmick" or is "BS" is entirely subjective. By your logic, Uncharted 2 isn't a hardcore game because Situational Awareness was considered to be "bullshit" by many gamers.

I just wanted to show you that the definition of a hardcore gamer is subjective.

bruddahmanmatt2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

To be fair, Microsoft is simply concerned with one thing and one thing only, the bottom line. In other words...$$$. I can't really fault them for that (who doesn't want to stick with what's profitable) but while I don't blame them, I won't commend them the way I will Sony with regards to fresh and unique first party content aimed at HC gamers.

One thing I REALLY appreciate with Sony is their willingness to take risks (or at the very least, back studios that are looking to try new things) with regards to software. Games like Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian may not be guaranteed to sell gazillions of copies like say Halo or Gears, but it gives gamers a chance to take a crack at something fresh and unique for a change. Hell it isn't exactly like every other game that's released these days isn't an FPS or TPS anyway, and if that's what you really want, there's always Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, SOCOM and a host of multiplats out there for you to enjoy.

darthv722509d ago

I play the hard core shooters and hack and slash but I play them at my own casual pace. A core gamer should not be defined by the games they play but by the amount of dedication they put into playing games.

At least....it used to be that way.

So if we used the old way of thinking you can have yourself some hardcore angry birds players out there. Or those who play more tetris than even the best killzone player. But because they dont play the same games as the ones that call themselves 'core'...they are branded forever as casuals.

Guess what people. We all started out casual gamers. Not a person alive was born with a controller in their hand. It was given to us and we were shown how to play on the simplest level. We had to aspire to be better but we should never forget our casual roots.

DatNJDom812509d ago

Don't pay no mind to this reporter. LOL. The name says it all. Gamersheep is an understatement.

Hit post too soon. Sorry.

SuicidalTendencies2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

Forza only has 3 releases this gen. Forza 2, Forza 3, and the yet to be released Forza 4.

God of War should be up to 3 also. God of War 3, God of War 1 & 2 HD collection, and the newly announced PSP God of War HD remake PS3 game collection.

Otheros002509d ago

He didn't count remakes or HD collection. If he did he would of added the halo 1 HD remake. Forza should be 3 once forza 4 comes out.

SuicidalTendencies2509d ago

I see. I guess Sony and MS shouldn't count the sales for their releases either then. lol

CrimsonEngage2510d ago

Their are other games MS have that not on that list...

-Alpha2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

While you're list is convincing, this is about E3 2011. In which case, all you had to do was point at Kinect.

MS, like Logic said, has a very different sense of "hardcore"

Multiplatform titles are core titles too, and MS knows that their audience buys a lot of them. Hence, their population of core gamers are happy with these titles.

That is just their strategy. As for "caring", I think it's evident that MS is trying to branch the 360 into a wider product but they are definitely skimping out on delivering, themselves, to the core gamers.

LOGICWINS2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

Exactly. In a way, Microsoft DOES care about the hardcore in the sense that they've realized that MOST hardcore gamers opt to play multiplatform games, as opposed to exclusives.

In this respect, the Microsoft mentality is:

"Most of out hardcore consumers buy Call of Duty every year. Okay, lets give them what they want!"

It actually isn't Microsoft's fault that the 360 has a lack of exclusives, its more so the fault of the MAJORITY of the 360's audience who vote with their dollars that they aren't interested in exclusive games.

Why invest in more exclusives when its OBVIOUS that the majority of your audience doesn't care about them?

Why o why2509d ago

If 360 owners had more exclusives to play, they'd buy them. Its just not ms's model for now. Killer instinct gets put on hold for some more casual kinect stuff from rare. Ki would appease the foundation whereas kinect x will lure the casuals. Ms chose the casuals. They're definitely backing their hardware and thats not to be scoffed at but the core/foundation type 360 owner has become collateral damage for the forseable future anyhow.

Sad but its ironic how the same fans who defended kinect by lording its sales now have to sit and watch whilst sesame street and some disney game push games that might appeal more to them to the side. The damn thing isnt even as accurate as the wii remote and is still very limited in its application. Its almost like Ms has shuned us for our younger siblings and our parents

ForROME2509d ago

I was with you until you listed little big planet it may have sold a lot but it doesnt belong in a talk about hardcore gaming my main man

Blacktric2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

If you ask me, Microsoft is pretty happy with their overall lineup if you add multiplatform games to the list. Now frankly, I don't care if games I want to play on Xbox 360 but more variety would've been welcome when it comes to exclusive games. Also, they especially seem to forgot Japan completely this year.

NoobSessions2509d ago

Before people complained how kiddy and casual Kinect is, and how it lacked core games.

Now MS is pushing Kinect with core games, and people still complain

I guess you can't please everyone

TheDivine2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

lets see
gow 3, gow 1 hd, gow 2hd, gow ghost of sparta hd, gow chains of olympus hd so thats 5 gow games. 3 uncharteds plus the vita 1 so 4. 3 resistances plus one psp and one vita so 5. Lbp has 2 on ps3 one on psp one on vita so 4 games. What is your point? Lets see ms non "milked" ip's
Lost odyssey
blue dragon
alan wake
kameo
viva pinata 1 and 2
too human
splinter cell
l4d 1 and 2
exc exc exc

SlyFoxC2509d ago

what ever helps you sleep..

you have to admit that ms is lacking in its variety of games...

sony may have alot...but different experiences..
gow on ps3 and gow on psp are two different types of game in my book, and you cant count a remake....

psp games do not equal ps3 games...two separate gaming systems....and the same goes with the psvita...

so if we take away all the PSV and PSP games and PS3 HD Remakes...we have 9 ps3 games....

and then we have:
2 hd remakes on one disk
4 psp games
2 psv games

ElementX2509d ago

Misterhbk purposely left out the PSP games because then his argument would be invalid.

ReservoirDog3162509d ago

Well, I like Gears of War. And I'll probably get ME3 on my 360.

That's about it.

TheDareDevil2509d ago

@ bruddahmanmatt
List of remade games for the PS3-
God of war HD collection
Sly Cooper HD
Ico and Shadow of colossus HD.
Siren HD
and WarHawk remake.

This is definitely not 'Fresh and unique'.

One thing we can all agree is that microsoft loves money more

dark-hollow2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

Even am sony guy but they ain't here for charity too!

baodeus2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

well if u open business, a big business infact, and you don't care about money? Than what is the point of going into business?

Adrela2509d ago

Microsoft loves money, yes.
But...Then again, isn't that what most big companies love?

MassOnesumis2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

At the core, isn't the point of living trying to amass a fortune without dieing?

they dont care about the core...just games they know will sell like a sequel.....If they made too human 2 i would love it

news4geeks2509d ago

360 still has quality titles despite this kinect garbage. Still enough core experiences to justify a purchase of the console. Ps3 and Vita is where it is at now though.

NateCole2509d ago

Yes. Thats why their conference at the biggest Gaming event is a kinetic roadshow.

In x360 fans land. It is true.
