VG247 - Shuhei Yoshida has said Sony learned its lesson from the PSP’s modest feature base, and is going for gold with the NGP – but not, apparently, by chasing the smartphone dollar.
Modest feature base??? Since when was over 60 million sales just modest? Phht gaming "journalism."
That is the gaming world for you. A system that survived the portable gaming war, still sells to this day with 60 million sales is modest.
67.8 million as of February this year. If this is modest, I wonder what they must think of the 360 and ps3. Apparently it was Shuhei Yoshida that said this even though it isn't quoted so don't be too quick to attack the journalists.
maybe they have been listing to the media too much. I swear the PSP was sonys first and it did 60 million in a Nintendo market yet because its not "popular" in the US media it failed. NGP or vita will be a great success for sony.
This was sony's first, it only launched in Japan tho http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Modest feature base doesn't mean 'user-base' He's referring to the fact PSP didn't have touch screen, cameras, or even tilt sensors like the NGP, Yoshida said they were happy with replicating the PS2 experience. It has nothing to do with Sales. And 'Modest' was not something Yoshida said.
Ummmm since when does feature base mean number of sales? Features refers to features... *facepalms* I see that Rob beet me to it.
well i think sony's approach will be different this time around or at least initally. instead of talking about ngp multimedia capabilities they have talked about more of the games. So clearly they want the gamers to buy the device first. Plus Sony already has smartphones themselves so it wouldnt make sense for two competing devices on the market by the same company.
Multimedia features is the next thing I'd like to know. Only 3 things I need: a web browser, maps and netflix. Than I am all good. If it can run some Android apps that would be fantastic - not the games, though (maybe, too, but only for ports).
DUH! It took you guys that long to figure it out. At least you guys did. MS still think they have a chance in that market. it's cute really.
And the smartphones can't compete with sonys hand held gaming.
Why would Sony give an exclusive interview to Edge? I guess they're trying to win them over?? It's like Obama going on fox news. It might be a clever way of advertising to Xbox fans.
it`s probably not an exclusive interview just a brief conversation over the phone or at a press event where they bombard him with question after question and steer him into rushed statements. heck it`s the edge after all they can say what they want and say it`s fact if they want to.
Edge! Jesus, have sony ever read a copy of Edge. It's like page after page of 'why sony suck'.These days I only buy Edge if the store is out of toilet roll.
and smartphones cant compete with the gaming of the 3ds and ngp
I say if a smart phone gets a game pad peripheral... it could stand a pretty large chance against it, smart phones update hardware every 6 months.. NGP every 5 years or so. so in terms of major contenders apple might pull some shit
not even a chance with peripheral. The ios games arent as deep or as good as dedicated games from all eras
What im trying to say is that if ... and only if just a thought, a smartphone decided to go after portable gaming they could and beat out NGP in terms of specs... its still a possibility samsung, nokia, acer who ever it may be could try not just apple and if you have played dead space real racing or even infinity blade you can already see the possibility is there for iphone
In terms of specs only then yes sorry but even the worst rpg on the ds,psp, gba,gb is better than infinity blade. Not really a good example. Same with dead space. It would be shovelware on a real portable, weak depth, weak controls, weak gameplay
I don't think so. 2 reasons: battery lifetime has a much higher priority - who want's a phone which works for less than 4 hours and market separation. For a developer relying on a quad core allows you to push boundaries. I doubt quad core phones (if they ever emerge) will be the common denominator for cell phone gaming. And, then, most of the phone will not have controls. Why would you want to carry a controller with your phone (which is most likely bigger than the whole NGP).
I play games on my iphone like 30 mins a day, mostly at train stations, bus stops..
yea i play a little on my Touch 4G on the train sometimes but that will definitely change once Uncharted NGP gets release , is a no brainer for me , i wont get that Experience on my Touch 4G , no way
Ok why are they talking bout the NGP competing with Cell phone for? It's a portable gaming device nothing you can make a phone call with.
