Sony's NGP will offer full backwards compatibility with the PlayStation Network's library of PSP games, and will offer an optimized experience for each one.
very good !!!!
WHOOMP THERE IT IS!!!
Lol @ lil Titan. This is great news for them, but I want to know more about these PSP to PS3 conversions. Are they compatible with NGP, are they retail or PSN only, and how much. They should be PS3 and NGP compatible, and sold for $19.99.
This is definitely turning out to be a winner. I'm getting more excited for this.
Boon for those who got a PSPGo!(and those who went full digital) Obviously, your UMD games won't work on it! I have a near launch PSP1000, but I only have 2 UMD games! All we need to hear now is NGP compatibility with whatever tablet we know Sony is going to come out with! One day I may want a tablet and it would be amazing to plug my NGP into it and play on a larger HD screen!
It sucks that I can't play my UMD games, but I'm really NOT going to miss UMDs. I'm glad that my "welcome Back" titles will roll over, though :)
I am still waiting for a price on the NGP.
If you could play every PSN game on it that would be so boss.
i'm sure you can, the psp could play minis, ps1 games and some psn titles and it came out before the store was even going.
I guess the main reason for this is because the NGP has no UMD drive? It is not just Mini's, it is full PSP games. And not remastered either. Resistance Retribution does support DS3 controllers on the PSP-Go (bluetooth paired DS3 controller). This will be fully supported in NGPs PSP emulation (!) - eg dual analog sticks. Read the article, they talk about a SW emulator running PSP games - not minis.
Does Resistance:Retribution support dual analog sticks? I tried it with MGS:PW and it didn't support dual analog sticks; you still had to use the buttons! One reason I never got Re:R is because the demo had really crappy controls!
It does. You can hook it up with USB to the PS3, get extra content, use the DS3 (with both sticks) and you can actually output to a TV. Converting this basically into a home console (SD res, though). I played through the game with the DS3.
who the heck disagree'd, why is that not awesome or "boss" grr, I hate random disagrees that were probably caused by a finger slip or something
Surely you jest.
I'd rather get an iPad. Who really has time to play hand held games these days?
Ummm i believe me and all the other thousands of people waiting for this to come out.
Doesn't make sense to ask about who has time to play hand held games these days. Considering many people lead busier lives with more travelling involved why not ask who has time to play home console or PC games these days? The fact that we do more travelling now means we actually have time to play hand held games while we're on the bus or train.
Your right. Mobile gaming is on the rise. Faster than console gaming when they pulled the stats. Mobile gaming for Tablets and Cell Phones for example is exploding. Regardless if its dedicated handhelds gaming units or Cell Phones, mobile gaming is on the rise and consumers are buying them
let me see : 8:30 - 9:00 NYC train going to my work , 5:00 - 5: 30 NYC train going to soccer practice , 8:00 - 8: 45 NYC train going back home playing NGP !!!! yeap i do have time for some Uncharted on the go !!!
I see what you're saying. But I have my eyes set on iPad 7 because of the side facing camera...mmmmm...can't wait for Holiday 2011.
It's 0.15% thinner and comes with some folding case shit. Only 699.99! OT: NGP/Vita/PSP2 is going to be boss.
And the most Randomist Reply Award to an article goes to....*opens envelope*
don't mind d0r1en0. he's too busy saving the world and it's citizens and has no time for video games... but he has time to browse the web without FLASH. LOL!
Apparently at least 45 people from looking at all the disagrees.
Games on the iPad... Lol. I'll take analog sticks and buttons, twice the processing power, half the price, and a fitting in a small pocket in my pack, thanks.
lmao IPAD FOR WHAT!?
Office, email, a decent browser, 720p vids, decent ebook. Then it will be day 1, dump the 5" android.
Hold on to that Android phone or wait for the Galaxy 3 to come out later this year with the Kal-El chipset that will have all of that AND hi resolution gaming ;-) Mobile gaming is going to a new level now and in the very near future. NGP and Super Phones are exciting. Love the BC for the NGP. Awesome.
I can't agree more on the Office, eMail, and browser bit. I feel it needs organization apps just as must as entertainment ones.
@smoochie No i use a tablet for quick internet, word, mp3's ebook and MKV's little else. Bit like a big ipod touch but still portable, trying to use phones less tbh.
Nice. What about PS and PS2 games? Can we copy and paste them just like just like the PS games on PSP? :D
Im sure PS1 games will work flawlessly on the NGP now. especially with that second analog stick (YES!) as for PS2 games, well, that hasnt been announced yet. emulating the PS2 is very hard.
Guys i think this type of bc makes more sense than having an actual battery consuming umd drive around.
isnt this old news?
Dual Analog implementation is news!
I am pretty sure we knew about that too. Because they showed the psn freedom 3 with it
socom fireteam bravo can finally be enjoyed now with the dual sticks...this will bring a whole new life to some of the old titles
They showed the Vita version of MHP3 with the feature, but they never confirmed that every game would have it.
I have a few PSP games downloaded, pity there is nothing for physical copies.
Good News! This is the first handheld that has excited me in a long time!
Im just saying for me, I'd rather play on an HDTV, online, with my fiance and friends. Im 23 now. It was cool back when i had a gameboy, and game gear. Never touched the psp, ds, or iPad. I have a ps3, 360, iPhone 4.
Fair enough. If you don't travel a lot or commute a far distance to work, then handhelds probably don't make a lot of sense. I unfortunately travel from West London to East London (to the uninitiated, I have a 2hr commute to work and a 2hr commute back home) every day. I have a brilliant smartphone but I absolutely can't stand playing touchsreen games. The other problem I have is that I remember when I started making this journey and used my phone to escape boredom...it died way before I got home and since my phone is important to me as I also use it for business, I'd rather have a dedicated games/video player to save it's battery. So I have a pspgo...Vita is definitely going to replace that! I'm sure I'm not alone.
Your not. This is great news for PSP go owners like me, ive got about 15 games from the PSN i'll be able to play on day one on my NGP.
My PSP Go is awesome, but I'm all for replacing it with my NGP... well mostly. I do still like how small the Go is. I have like 30 PSP and PS1 games from the store, so I am totally set.
Imagine, with the NGP (or Vita) and a phone you can actually make phone calls while you play. LOL. How cool is that. And - because you mention the Go! I love the PSP compatibility. That means you can play all those PSPGo games on the Vita. Wow. I strongly hope you don't have to repurchase those. I don't think so. You can register up to 5 PSPs to play downloadable games already.
Good luck toting that HDTV and big console with you. You don't really understand the point of portable gaming, do you?
ummmmm what about people with actual umd's? forgot about us sony?
Hopefully you kept your old psp...I know I did :-)
i've never been so excited about any othe hardware as the NGP. can't wait to see what's to come.
Yes! I was waiting for this :D I'm definitely going to get some beloved PSP games from PSN.
@ d0r1en0 yes that makes a lot of sense. It is much better to hold on to a heavy IPAD on a bus or train then to use a more compact NGP /s.Back on topic. That more then doubles the amount of games for the NGP. NGP titles AND PSP ones. Oh NGP, how I love you so. Come to my hands and we shall make sweet music together. I will be kind and gentle, I swear.
love the name man! great movie!
indeed it is a great movie!
The Vita is really starting to impress me.
Very nice very nice..... How do I fit the umd into it?
Resistance: Retribution and Monster Hunter 3 already confirmed to use the 2nd analog. Awesome.
I just want a damn price point ><
I just wanne play ps2 games on it ... mhhh cant wait to play FFX and FFXII on this little new friend
Unveiled = explained
PS2 GAMES PS2 GAMES PS2 GAMES!
Excellent NGP = DAY ONE BUY 4 SURE
