Top 5 Sports Simulation Video Games

GameDynamo - "With the NBA and NHL seasons nearing the finals, baseball picking up, and a labor dispute in the NFL, I got to thinking: what are the best representations of sports in video gaming? EA Sports blazed a trail in the 90s with sports games that were no longer filled with fat little cartoon players and instead focused on realism and simulation of the real thing. Basketball games started having full rosters and season modes, the historic Madden franchise focused on realism, and so on. So, in 2011, what five games have really nailed down a video game experience that is comparable to the game on the field? This was the hardest list to compile because there are a lot of worthy games out there, but we did our best!"

I'd take out madden and put either NBA 2K11 or NFL2K5.

Where's Gran Turismo 5 and/or Forza Motorsport 3? Racing is a sport...

Quagmire4704d ago

Might as well put up Shift 2 in the list in that case.

What...Shift isnt a simulation racer? Boo hoo. GT5 and Forza may be the realistic DRIVING simulator, by Shift 2 owns by being the realistic RACING simulator.

When I play a racing game, I want to be the driver, not the car, something Shift succeeds in where GT5 and Forza fail.

I'm surprised that BOTH 2K football and basketball are absent. Not a worthy list without NFL 2K5 and NBA 2K11.

Pfft, Fight Night Champion should be at the TOP of the list.

Fight Night Round 5: We Want A New Fight Night Game

It’s been almost a decade since the critically acclaimed Fight Night Champion, the final title in a series of beloved boxing video games from Electronic Arts. They need to go back to the good roots of FN R2 and FN R3. Everything after watered down the formula too much and enabled gimmicks. FNR2&3 are some of the greatest fighting games ever.

3 was fun and you could smash out so many haymakers. But I found 4 more technical and enjoyed it for that too.

navi87433d ago

At least in 3 you had to wind up your shots, it was more skill based as opposed to 4 where you just held down L1 or R1 whilst flicking the analogue stick.

Agreed, i played FNR 3 the most on Xbox 360 back in the day and using the analogue sticks to kinda mimic punches thrown was fun af. FNR 4 ruined it by just flicking the analogue stick to throw hooks, felt really unintuitive after the previous games.

They'd ruin it like they do everything these days
