Maybe because Sony whats that mobile gaming money? Or maybe Sony wanted to show people how much better gaming is when you have a controller.

I don't know but I like this phone and for people that play roms on their phone (don't know why they would) can most likely use the controller part of the phone to play. Which would make it alot more easy to play a Mario game with a controller.

schlanz4713d ago

The phone's specs are yawn inducing, the on-board memory is laughable, it's 3G only, it's bulky and not at all sleek, and the sole feature of the device that its success rests upon- the controller- feels clumsy. The D-Pad sucks and the triggers are overly sensitive.

Still, I guess its better than nothing for anyone wanting to play emulators or the classic PSone games on their phone.

I can't imagine there won't be a better model in the future, though, so I'll hold out. For now I'd rather have a faster and more powerful device in my pocket than something that doesn't fully deliver on the one interesting aspect about it.

Neko_Mega4713d ago

Don't know what phone you are looking at, specs next to the IPhone yeah it isn't got the best cam or 32GB.

But other than that it matches every other Android on the market that is with Verizon and it has more battery for stand by then IPhone.

You can compare them on Verizon's site to see.

schlanz4713d ago

Droid X2 runs circles around the Xperia Play and it launched the same day. Dual Core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 8 gigs internal memory (compared to 400MB on the Play - pathetic) and a 4.3" qHD display. Funny thing is the Play is heavier and thicker than the X2 despite having much weaker specs.

That said, the Play is still a capable device but its going to be outdated rapidly as more dual core and 4G phones are released. This thing isn't worth a 2 year contract.

also, iPhone is hardly the best phone on Verizon. Best selling, yes(since it debuted) but most powerful, not by a long shot. And it has amazing battery life. I highly doubt the Xperia can do better in that department.

And by the way, I work for Verizon. ;)

Neko_Mega4713d ago

So where did you get the 400mb from? Any phone is outdate by the time it comes out.

Xperia going by Verizon's the battery is better then the IPhone and from what people said. Really good.

But you have to be a gaming to want this phone.

schlanz4713d ago

Correction, I guess its actually only 380MB internal, available at least.

It has a 16GB microSD but a lot of apps must be installed to the device memory, at least part of them. Over the length of two years I can see this really becoming a problem, not to mention 16GB external seems painfully small to any avid gamer wanting to install a lot of games and media.

I've got over a GB used on my Thunderbolts available internal memory which is also what I consider pretty small at around 2.4GB.

Battery life has reportedly been pretty good for an android device, but I still wonder why you compare it to the iPhone which has great battery life. If anything you should compare it to other Android devices where battery life seems to be more of an issue.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers7h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

z2g3h ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing3h ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H93h ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

SegaSaturn6692h ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle2h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN16h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos13h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

GamerRN6h ago

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

peppeaccardo8h ago

"MIcrosoft leaves Bethesda do what they know how to do best" ... close! Oh the irony ....
(Citation from a week old article)

ChasterMies4h ago

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger16h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Mr Logic2h ago

What a stupid thing to say. The elites give 0 fucks what we say on an obscure website in the comments section.

Crows901h ago

You can always reach out and give them jobs at your company man. Don't wait

Profchaos18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto18h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos17h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long14h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel17h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator16h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg19h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos19h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola14h ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
