The Duracell Extender, a multifunctional accessory which attaches to the side of the system, has been revealed for the redesigned Playstation 3 slim models.
A lot of times, your cable, satellite, or in my case, Verizon FiOS box will have a USB port in the front. I just plug my PS3 controller in that to charge, no running the PS3 required.
They mean like sega cd in form factor. The expansion is a controller ay that has a sd card slot and 3 more usb slot. Almost making it the same size as a phat. I'd be interested had I not already had a nice pyramid quad dock. http://www.amazon.com/Pyram...
This has been available to buy since earlier this year. I should know as i already own one. Its a fantastic piece of kit. It charges and stores my controllers plus it allows me to use my memory cards.
Seriously, this can't have just been revealed when i've owned one for months now!
Doesn't make it overheat at all. I've owned one for months now. Not had a single problem with it.
Also to those who disagreed with drstabwounds. Congrats. He is actually correct. This doesn't need the PS3 to be turned on to charge your pads as it does have it's own power supply!
I actually like it, it would reduce clutter and i really dont like my stand charger for my controllers because the connection piece is to fidgety...... though just realized both made by energizer quality is probably the same sigh
I want a RAM expander like on the N64. If games support the RAM expander then we could have better running games. Sony should release something like that. Then games that do have this there would be an option in the menu that will change the game to the amount of RAM you added.
I do not know if sony could make this work on the PS3's but it sure would be awesome if they did...as long as the price is not to high for the expander.
The problem with adding ports with low level access for expansion cards etc they usually end up being a giant attack vector for things like mod-chips, cheating and other random hacks.
Every platform that has had extra high speed expansion ports has had them abused, and they usually (in sony's case particularly) get removed in later revisions of the hardware. If it was *just* a ram slot that would probably be ok. They'd still have to support the lowest end system (like with the 360's arcade units) so it seems a bit of a waste of time. Ram isn't expensive, and the limits of ram arent so much limiting performance as they are game design. Ie, you need smaller maps and less loaded into memory at once.. making it so some of your users have different amounts of ram would likely be a big headache for devs.
omg this is awesome! makes me want to go buy a slim lol! but i dont want to leave my fatty to get covered in dust! plus i put a 500GB harddrive in it! so just make one for the fat ps3's please!
AT first I thought this was rad until i saw how it blocks air flow on the right side..which particularly gets warmer cuz of the HDD....lol i use a laptop coolin tray under my ps3 now at all times
ugh green crack cush..... meant to say ive lost 3 ps3s, 2 YLOD and weird GT5 update corrupted my HDD, EB games straight up gave me a new system with 2 games...
-Three additional USB ports at the back -Independent of the PlayStation with its own power supply
How the hell are those good things? Additinal USB ports, great, but who was the idiot who decided to put them at the back? And what kind of idiot thinks it's a good idea to spend even more power and more trouble with wires, by giving it its own power cord? The PS3 wouldn't overheat because of it, it only does what the PS3 is already capable of, only in a smarter way. How is charging controllers through the device gonna overheat the PS3, when it's already capable of charging controllers? There's just no sense in giving it its own power supply, let alone thinking it's a good thing.
I would like some usb slots in the back. I could put my camera and my usb 7 port hub on the back so I dont have to see the cords and bend them to the rear on my entertainment center.
The overheating thing people are talking about I think they mean it would cover the vents on the side of the PS3.
You can charge your controllers even when the system isn't turned on with those usb ports on the back. Now THAT'S useful, and is a big pet peeve of mine.
So on my fat ps3 that is right where the intake vent is, im paranoid but im always worried about overheating. Wouldnt this thing just help your ps3 overheat easier?
Personally I'm not big on accessories like this unless they are official. But this could be cool for those who really miss the further features.
'similar to the Sega CD expansion for the Sega Genesis.'
Now that's a great way of putting people off. xD
Looks like it would make it over heat but it is cool makes it look huge.
Now your PS3 can really look like a coffin!
Kinda reminds me of the controller holder on the Atari 5200
Sweet merciful crap, its officially a BBQ.
