Modern Warfare 3 vs. Battlefield 3: the difference is in the PC

ARS: There are two notable war games coming out this year, and they both have the number three after their names. We're finally able to talk about the Modern Warfare 3 content Activision showed the press at its pre-E3 event, and our enthusiasm for the game is rather muted. The thing is, the trailer for Battlefield 3 arguably makes the game seem like more of the same, and we've been much more enthusiastic about that game in our coverage.

Why is that? This is the first time you'll catch me using this word myself, but it's bias. That bias is based on tastes, not to mention a platform preference many of you may share: my love for the PC as a gaming platform.

Great article and, as a fellow PC gamer, I agree with all the points the author has made. BF series have always been my preferred FPS. I liked the original COD and especially it's expansion, United Offensive. UO had large maps, some even with vehicles and had a total different feel than today's COD games (maybe because it was a PC exclusive). For me, though, it all started to go downhill with COD2 with it's smaller maps and player counts. It's now just an arcadey, hyper-adrenaline rush that no longer appeals to me.

I'll end with this final paragraph from the article because it is a perfect description of my thoughts: "So again, many of these things are personal taste. I enjoy gaming on the PC, I enjoy a more team-based, strategy-oriented experience with vehicles and distinct roles that all feel different to play, and dedicated servers with high player counts are attractive. One of these war games will deliver what I like in action games, and the other is Modern Warfare 3".

That was not a great article. It was so biased towards COD.You can tell it was written by a Battlefield fanboy. First off, it is too soon to be doing comparison articles between these games since we don't know much about COD. Second both games are way too different. One is a fun arcade shooter. The other is a boring tactical shooter. So stop the COD hate because all of you gone to buy it anyway!

Oh, a COD/BF comparison article and here's the Warprincess116 troll. You know, that's your personal preference. I happen to think that BF is the better series. Your point about it being too soon for comparison articles because we don't know much about COD is a major problem for me. The game is coming in 6 months and we know next to nothing about it. Doesn't instill much confidence in me. Also, the fact that three developers are making it also concerns me (too many cooks in the kitchen?). Then you end with an appeal to stop the COD hate, yet you are just full of BF hate (calling it boring). Where did I say I hate COD? I hate what it has become and it no longer appeals to me. Plus, for your info, I haven't bought a COD game since MW and doubt I will ever again.

COD will be built for consoles, and consoles sales.

BF3 is being built primarily for Pc which is as good as a next generation platform right now.

This will make all the difference.

Another CoD fanboy/troll complaining about a persons opinion like it's the end of the world. I really think you need to lay off just a little bit and actually let people have an opinion without bitching and moaning about how its sooo unfair, because it's not. I think I've seen enough of both games to make a pretty good comparison at the moment.

Can i bring a building down on campers in cod no but i sure as hell can on BF3 guess campers won't be much of a problem like they are in cod.

Happy Gaming everyone:D.

CrimsonEngage2641d ago (Edited 2641d ago )

@Warprincess116 We don't know much about COD? It's going to be the same damn game it is every year with new textures. You are in no position to call anyone a "fanboy" based on your post. It's quite obvious who's side you are on.

NatureOfLogic2641d ago

BF is too slow for my taste. November = UC3 and MW3.

SuicideShaun2641d ago

I doubt you've even played bf2. AND NO, That isn't bfbc2. I mean bf2, from 2004.

Yeah If any PC gamer buys mw3 over the game that is built from the ground up for pc is nutts!!

ATiElite2641d ago

man oh man don't let me find out about a PC Gamer buying MW3 over BF3....I would break into their house and rescue the PC from that insanity!

(now if the PC is using a PIII and a Voodoo 5 5000 gfx then i understand the purchase and most likely would break in and drop off some spare parts for a "Charity Upgrade".)

Agent-862641d ago

@BeastlyRig, I'm with you on that one. Activision/COD don't care about PC gamers; why should we care about them.

@ATiElite, "Charity Upgrade" Great line.

For the larger maps and vehicle, it was more about a matter of studio than platform's. Infinity Ward developed the original Call of Duty while the expansion pack you talk about was developed by Gray Matter which is now the core team at Treyarch developing Call of Dutys. Call of Duty 3 actually had a similar multiplayer to what you described for UO with vehicles and pretty large maps, and it was a console exclusive game.

theonlylolking2641d ago

"We already know that while the console version of Battlefield 3 will be limited to 24 players, the PC version will support servers with up to 64 players. That's not a small skirmish anymore, that's a war. And since we're playing war games, this is the way it should be."

64 players is not even close to a war. MAG is an actual war. MAG is not crazy war, it is like a real war when you have commanders and a controlled battlefield.

Tactics always win a battle in MAG and that is why SVER pwns everyone. Raven is still better though.

venom062641d ago

Simple and plain ... even with 24 players on the console... BF3 is freakin LIGHT-YRS better than the rehashed gameplay of anything CoD.. the equation of camp-shoot-killstreak; camp-shoot-killstreak, is tired and so elementary school...

Saryk2641d ago

BFBC2 is a thrill on the PC and when I achieve victory or defeat, I am always wanting more. I hope BF3 will do the same and it will be my main FPS game for quite some time. Luckily I have the machine to run it, at maX!
