That Modding Scene

Within the game development world, firms tend to fall into one of two camps: those who support active modding communities, and those that don’t. Historically, most of the firms that actively supported their modding communities were producing first-person shooter games, where the support of a modding community that could continue to produce map packs or other, stranger products that had the potential to considerably extend a game’s playable life. There have, however, been notable exceptions to this, including the Elder Scrolls games and Blizzard’s various real time strategy offerings, which ought to serve as sufficiently potent examples to rule out limiting modding to any singular genre.
