Why the new Xbox needs XBLA

With E3 just around the corner and rumors of a new Xbox peeking out from under the bed, questions are popping up on whether or not the inevitable new generation of Xbox consoles will include backwards compatibility with the 360′s hundreds of Xbox Live Arcade titles. Will it happen, and does it have to happen for players to take the new system seriously?

... I have 27 XBLA titles I paid good money for, and I want to be able to keep playing them for years to come, also on the next Xbox console.

Same goes for PSN content btw.

Why should they provide BC when they can charge in terms of HD remakes? Specially if people will gladly pay.

Id say Steam is where the BC is.

Redgehammer2340d ago

I completely believe that my games will carry over as long as there is a MS and XBL.

Chug2341d ago

With the next generation of consoles, I want to be able to keep everything from my current consoles including:

Gamertag/PSN ID

XBLA/PSN Games

Achievments/Trophies

And yes, backwards compatibility would be a huge plus.

Convas2341d ago

Of course! I haven't 1K'ed all my 360 games and gotten Platinums just to loose them next-gen.

Sony and MS WILL be carrying over these things, they are just too successful to let go.

They have to keep the past achievements in some form.

Itzy2340d ago

I imagine they'd keep the 360 achievements with the accounts. Makes no sense to start over from scratch. I can't see MS doing that.

you mean something xbox did all along. from the original xbox your gamertag could be saved to the 360,dlc could be re-downloaded to the 360, and back-compat was available on 360.

your either a new school gamer or only owned a ps2 which offered nothing towards your new ps3. PSN for the ps2 was a god damn mess and should never be mentioned again.

wanna disagree... go for it but we all know its the truth.

This is why I hate this site, people like you that twist words and manipulate things just to be an ass.

Dude, I'm 30. I've owned almost every console since Atari, including the original Xbox. I never had internet up until the PS3/360. So please, just go away.

Edit: Wanna disagree? Go ahead, it's not like you can do anything else like reply with your well deserved one bubble.

Totally agreed. Backwards compatibility is beyond a must at this point now that we're largely digital (or optical). I get that cartridges were different sizes, but CD/DVD/HDDVD/Blu-Ray are all a standard size meaning there's no reason the hardware can't be made compatible, and as for digital - well, that's a no brainer.

for the same reason new playstation needs psn

they forced online to be the normality instead of an option
