New game engine brings Hitman: Absolution to the masses

“The Hitman games of past have been very hardcore,” said Tore Blystad, game director at IO Interactive. “Even though the fantasy of the Hitman universe has a very universal appeal, the games have been so difficult to play, that it’s been more of an acquired taste. The biggest challenge that we had with this game was to make it much broader in every sense, so that it was easier to play and more accessible, but still retain a very strong, hardcore side as well. We don’t want to alienate any of our fans who have been extremely loyal for so many years.”

Oh dear...Hitman is one of my favourite games ever. Please don't mess it up by trying to Kane & Lynchify it. Hitman's MEANT to be hard. It's meant to make you think before you act but still feel a sense of urgency.

I'll still buy it on day 1, but this is a 'little' worrying. Hopefully, the "strong, hardcore side" will be more reminiscent of the current play style.

I think they're just talking about updating the controls.

Using L3 to throw objects, no cover system, poor aiming, weak melee. I LOVED Blood Money, but the controls did take time to adjust to.

A cover system (being about to hide by putting your back to the wall...so useful), better shooting, more lethal melee: all things that would improve the Hitman series.

Plus adapting AI sounds so good.

I don't get an sense of them "dumbing down" Hitman from the article

I'm frankly worried for Hitman after both the K and L games and Mini Ninjas. IO needs to step up. Blood Money was one of my favourite games on PC.

I just hope that this isnt going to be like
Splinter cell:conviction because, it sounds like it with the agency and police against him.

tablav2274d ago

In Blood Money, there was a rival agency against him. In Contracts, the police were on his tail for the later missions, so there's no reason it needs to turn out like Conviction...fingers crossed.

Hitman will succeed if they bring the following: numerous gadgets, weapons and customization and every mission has multiple paths / ways to take out the intended target. They put all that in the game then its on the right track.

If they some how dumb the experience down or make it more family friendly with a Teen rating I will be very disappointed.

I want the option of a knife over the Choke Wire.

tablav2274d ago

There have been knives in all the Hitman games. The fibre wire is concealable so it makes more sense to have that from the off. I would like to see better knife animations/stealth kills though (like in MGS4 of the older SC games)

Lord_Sloth2274d ago

That's what I'm sayin. A knife for Stealth Kills to choose instead of the wire.

Then I agree completely! :-)
