L.A. Noire Review [Game Revolution]

L.A. Noire is a lot like Heavy Rain, and not just because they’re both mystery games. They each take bold steps in untested waters for gaming, they each establish an amazing level of immersion (at times), and they each make odd choices that can frustrate you as well as awe you. While I do have complaints, this is still a game that needs to be experienced because the positives are just that strong. Like Phelps, you won't be able to leave this story alone until you see it through to the end.

I agree, all the reviews of this game seem to be praising it despite their scores.

L.A Noire is a very hard game to score in my opinion. Some people will find certain cases drawn out and tedious, were others (like me) find the excitement of getting to the bottom of things on how and why they played out like they did. In reality, it's a game I think everyone should experience and draw their own conclusions because the experience you have in this game is the way you play it. Not how it's set up.

heres another great paragraph from the examiner review

'Overall,L.A. Noireis a breakthrough game that takes the next step forward to close the gap between the virtual world and real life. Players will find themselves enraptured by the landscape and the architecture and may even forget that there is a controller in their hands. Sound quality, lighting, graphics -- all top-notch. Maybe at times too true-to-life. Players may find stretches of the game boring or drawn-out. In truth,L.A. Noireis not like other video games. It doesn't seek to appeal to the visceral desires of its audience. It's a game of intellect and intrigue. It is tactical and careful and patient, and players should be aware of this before purchasing. It is not the nextGrand Theft Auto, but it is certainly the next big thing in the industry.'

I think the open-world nature of the game could of made itself more necessary if the side quests were lengthened, beyond mere muggings or suicide jumpers that are finished within ten minutes (if that). Make them bulkier and more meaningful like the side quests in Fallout or Mass Effect 2.

I really hope this is nothing like Heavy Rain. Hated that game. Good review otherwise, though. I'll definitely be picking this up at the first sign of a price drop or sale.

In terms of gameplay, it's nothing like Heavy Rain in any way. Not to mention you play as through the eyes of multiple people in Heavy Rain, where L.A Noire you don't. It's just easy to compare the two because they're both detective games.

I think the investigations are very similar to those norman jayden investigations in heavy rain.

xPhearR3dx2706d ago

TBH I felt they were nothing alike. Jayden was my least favorite character to play in Heavy Rain. His parts always bored me. You just walked around scanning and looking for glowing objects. There was no real sense of depth or excitement for me.

It's better.
There's no awkward "press X, O, triangle, left, right, figure-8 motion with the right stick to get a cup of juice for your son" moments.

Theres way more content in LA Noire as well. It was surprising that heavy rain was only an 8 hour game. But then again, that has multiple endings and choices - LA Noire doesnt really.
