I don't think any era can surpass Sega and Nintendo. Anyone remember: "Genesis does what Nintendon't"

That campaign was the best! Kind of the Kevin Butler of the time.

BeaRye2764d ago

Sega Genesis had "blast processing" lol. Remember that?

jonlynch2764d ago

blast processing was a funny marketing phrase. There was no such thing.

pangitkqb2764d ago

I agree with this title. With full online, HD, hard drives, multiple distribution methods, voice chat, dozens of quality games and more... this is clearly the best generation so far.

I'm expecting even better things next gen.

darthv722764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

was by far my favorite. Its easy for younger people to proclaim what generation they really got into as the "best". Many will say they got into it at the PS1/N64 era or even the PS2 era. Myself started on the pong/2600 days.

When 8bit came out, it was ok but it was the 16bit that changed things forever. Creating the hardware/software rivalries that has come to be called "console wars". That is where it all started with the loyal fans taking sides.

In the end it was the gamers that won because we saw creative talent and artistic vision shine above the limitations of the console specs themselves.

No doubt that looking back has been the inspiration of today and future gaming.

16bit the birth of the fanboy

firefoxprime2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

I actually disagree. (weird, huh.)

I actually enjoyed the simplicity of the ps2/gc/xbox gen. Less hassale. As awesome as DLC is, some prices are outrageous. Don't even get me started on all those annoying updates. You'd think integrating online would make gaming more fun(it does), yet it carries all this unnecessary baggage along the way.

When I pop in my brand new game, I don't wanna wait 30+ minutes waitin for my console to "integrate" Bull. Hmph. Not even gonna reflect on Sony's mess this past 4 months.

@manimal: a bit extreme, but well said.

"Louis_Guzman>>&am p;gt ;Lol, best gen of all time? Sure, if you dig unprecedented hardware failures, hacked networks, paying $60 for games then paying more for dlc that used to be free in gens past. Not to mention an absolute torrent of bland, earth toned, derivative fps pap, then sure this gen is teh greatest! Wake up kid, this isn't a golden age. Hell, it's not even the Byzantine empire. "

Yup. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

SNES VS GENESIS was the best

ShyGuy132764d ago

People that argue old consoles were better are simply caught in nostalgia. Even a decent 2011 games is better than the best of the SNES games.

So the commenter is a kid because their opinion differs from your own? Grow up.

gillri2764d ago

lol SNES games are godly, Chrono Trigger, SMW, Zelda : Lttp, Super Metroid, Secret of mana, FFVI, earthbound etc

for me the SNES and Megadrive era will always the best

although I loved the beginings of the PS and N64 era also

Louis_Guzman2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

Couldn't have said it better, gillri. Nes, Megadrive/Genesis, Snes, Turbo Duo, Neo Geo, all the way to PS1, that was a Golden era, when much of gamings framework was created.

ardivt2764d ago

"Even a decent 2011 game[s] is better than the best of the SNES games."

omg this really is a stupid statement
well maybe you just haven't played the brilliant snes games...

TOO PAWNED2764d ago

I have been playing games since 1989, so in MY opinion games are better then ever. Those that claim PS1, or SNES had better games or whatever are caught in nostalgia as SHYGUY said. There are some great games, no question about that, but come one comparing classic games with movies LOL

N4g_null2764d ago

It's not nostalgia. Those games where more challenging and actualy played better. This era is the era of hype so many franchises died this gen. Ff13, castlevania. One of this gens best game is a game from the Nes snes era Mario 5!

Mario kart is Only selling because it is more like the first one.

Most of the new ips of this gen will not hold up well game play wise and graphics wise. The problem with this gen was console gamers became pc gamers over night.

It is much like movies these days the next gen is going to fix that.

This gen is the only gen people are not excited to get new hardware yet they keep complaining about multiplatform games.

Istanbull2764d ago

LOL! Just because you're young doesn't mean you have to bash the older guys for claiming SNES games were better.

Whats a decent 2011 game for you? How can a "decent" game be better than the best of SNES?? So a game like Bulletstorm is better than a FF6, Terranigma, Castlevania, Super Mario Brothers?

You're young, you can't appreciate the classics, go back to playing CoD games

Boody-Bandit2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

You have been gaming all that long, have you?

Gaming isn't just about graphics, sound, online, complexity, and so on. Gaming for most old school gamers, and even younger gamers I know, is entertainment / fun / escapism.

Some of my favorite moments growing up in gaming were some of the most simplistic games ever made. Break out, Warlords, Asteroids, Bezerk, Zaxxon, Centipede, Donkey Kong and so on. Most of the games years before NES or SNES existed.

I guess I just showed my age.

Tony P2764d ago

Overall, I think there are a lot of things that make this gen a strong contender for best.

But it's certainly not the strength of the games alone.

It's not like today's games are bad. No. It's pretty much the same field of quality and crap games you get with any gen. Ironically, it's been the titles that try to revive the gaming greats of past which have been some of the crappiest titles of all.

If anything sets this gen apart, it's interconnectivity and richness of features.

DeadIIIRed2764d ago

The thing that separates the SNES/Genesis generation and the current one is that the older games have a lasting appeal. Go back and play Tomb Raider for PS and you'll just want to vomit after twenty minutes. Same thing will happen to this generation of games.

ProjectVulcan2764d ago (Edited 2764d ago )

Your point of view will probably be formed by your life and age at the time. For me, the Golden era was of the Playstation 1, N64 and then Dreamcast between about 1997 and 2000. Goldeneye, Metal gear solid, Shenmue etc. I was at the perfect age then to just drink in the games at the time, and had my best friends around me to enjoy them with, the happiest years of my life so far and so on.

This makes me look back at that era most fondly, despite having previous generations of consoles and every major one since. This generation clearly has a wider appeal, i feel it has never been able to match those times in my mind. The excitement and exploration that went with games moving into another dimension and many adding amazing quality music, voices and video.

I find it difficult to pinpoint too much this generation that matches the speed of advancement in the industry at that period. A time before shooters ruled the earth? Glorious.

I am sure that your view of generations is very different from mine, but i bet it is still mostly dictated by special moments of your life coinciding with those games and machines.

AWBrawler2764d ago

your argument is rendered invalid, simply because the games that cause the biggest buzz are usually remakes or continuations of SNES and Genesis games.

Are you can't really believe Sonic 2006 is better than Sonic 2, or Golden Axe Beast Rider is better than Golden Axe 2, and I hope to God (or whoever you believe in) that you don't dare think Castlevania Lord of shadows even holds a torch to the old Castlevanias

This isnt even better than last gen.

The ps2 had games to put pretty much everything we have now on consoles to shame.

This is the best portable gen ever. The ds and psp have kicked ass.

BeastlyRig2764d ago

So far for My ps3 & pc is only getting better! 360 not so much will see at E3 though..
