SEGA adds Vanquish to games on demand library

SEGA has put its 2010 FPS title Vanquish for sale through the Xbox LIVE's games on demand platform for the Xbox 360. A title that puts players in a versatile battle suit to wage war against hordes of soldiers and giant robots, Vanquish is available now.

The story is too old to be commented.

If this game was $20 I would snap it up in an instant. The game is $40 dollars though...the same as Gamestop, Bestbuy, Target, etc. I still don't understand the unwillingness of Microsoft and Sony to compete with retail. Digital downloads are pure profit. There isn't any cost associated with manufacturing, retailer's cut, or the possibility of second hand sales.

Is it too much to wish for console manufacturers adopting a more Steam-like approach to digital downloads?

You have retailers such as GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, and whoever else that you want to keep happy. Yeah they are a middleman but nationial chains like that provide some much needed muscle to sell products. Start cutting into their profits and they are going to start ordering less units and giving you less shelf space for games and consoles. If they get wind that Microsoft is switching over to digitial downloads maybe they will see if Sony will cut them a deal so that their chain exclusively carries Playstation and no Xbox games.
