Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has strongly hinted that Microsoft and Sony are planning to cut the prices of Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.
before the consoles get a price cut the retailers usually start doing alot more sales on them. And recently alot of them have been giving out $50 credit with 360/ps3s.
I think it's less about the current credits being applied to purchases and more about the current generation of gaming. The Wii 2 (pending) is whats really pushing all the hype. But I don't think we'll see drastic price cuts anytime soon. For Sony's sake they gotta hit E3 HUGE after the PSN debacle. I think setting a new price point will encourage people to finally get on board and their Welcome Back plan should give customers a nice confidence boost. Thought I do think at least 1/2 of Sonys E3 conference, maybe even more will be NGP dedicated. Anything lower than $250 for Microsoft would be shocking to me as well. If the Kinect keeps selling as well as Microsft says it wouldn't make sense to drop the price too much more when the peripheral is rumored to have way more support down the road. Or at least thats what I think...Obviously the $199 price point is the sweet spot for consumers, I just don't think we're going to see that yet from either Sony or MS. At least not until we see what the Wii 2 has to offer
from MS and sony soon, especially with the wii2 coming soon. Retailers actually make more or the same money giving credit and selling at the current higher price point then they would at selling without the credit at the future lower point. They can make the same or more amount of money now while making it look like a great deal. I wouldnt be surprised if MS dropped price at E3. Sony will do it soon too probably, but Im thinking later in teh year for them. Should be interesting to see what the new prices are. Im guessing ps3 might drop to 250 with the next price cut, and MS may just get rid of arcade and sell one with small HD for 200, and elite for 250. more likely tho they will keep the 4gb and sell it for 175 or something. Either way, the price of the HD should drop and that good news for people with the 4gb one.
I think Sony will introduce a HDD-less 16gb console at $200.. then drop the 320gb to $250. MS I don't know what they'll do but they'll have to drop their high end to match sony's high end. (I think MS will cut kinect to $99, if not then they will by november)
Sorry, I don't believe a word CVG says anymore after they circulated the fabricated Xbox 720 story, clearly without doing their homework first.
True but it would explain the amount of deals occurring and a strategic move for Sony and Microsoft for the upcoming "next gen wii".
^ that and the fact that the ps3 is going to be due for a price drop when you look at the drops in the past (not sure about last time 360 dropped). Plus the huge amount of exclusives coming out during the fall along with major multiplats.
urmumlol you got told as usual and now got nothing to say. On your bike and ride off to ur mum lol.
Kotick is a dillhole. Sorry, had to throw that out there.
Some one should kick Kotex in the nards; he keeps trying to peddle that trash a** COD.
100 cut would be sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So in other words, Kotick is saying, We need to focus on CONTROL More, The online focus MEANS, that Your ALWAYS PAYING A FEE TO GAME. That's what these Sick Control Freaks are Really After, Control of your Gaming Hobby, ToTally.
How ironic Bobby "Kockhead" Kotick touting console price cuts while he gears up to unleash a premium pay to play multiplayer service for the next cod. F u Bobby.
