During Activision Blizzard's quarterly conference call, President Mike Morhaime announced the loss of over half a million World of Warcraft subscribers in the last year.
OOFT that's a hell of a decline
No one wears bell-bottoms anymore either. :O
this isn't wow anymore, people realise that and they quiting.
Loved Wrath but not Cataclysm. RIP old WoW.
Last time I played WoW, it was during BC. Game must be hella different now. What's wrong with Catyclysm?
First WoW and TBC were the best ones. Man, good memories!
Burning Crusade? Niiiice! Never played Cataclysm myself.
Still having 11.4m monthly subscribers isn't bad. Which game has previously had these numbers in their sixth year of running?
Paying subscribers? Edit: $15 monthly
Poker? Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!
i only think the real Warcraft games are the RTS ones world of war craft ..... its just no now i hope blizz make a new REAL Warcraft game after diablo 3 but still there is like another 123293846138746871327491374981 327 players on WoW so thats not a big problem and the game is old now and other games are starting to appear on the market so yah
Blizzard are working on a new "casual" MMO that doesn't have a release date yet.
They are all playing FFXIV
Lol good one!
LOL! *builds bridge for you*
Im surprised its not more considering the age of the game.
Blizzard should be proud they are still the king of MMO's. And its been 5 years they held that title. They will probably still hold the title for many years to come, but with not as many subscribers.
My problem with MMOs is this one little thing. I love them all…………..Gamers for some reason need to bash the competition, why I have no idea. However WoW is a damn good game, but so is STO in my opinion. Each game has it’s thing and as long as the player is having a blast, nothing else matters. I feel that WoW will be around for a very long time and I bet my last dollar they have a plan to upgrade the graphics. Once that happens, it is a brand new game………..
The WoW I love and miss was filled with nightly battles over TM and SS. You HATED the other realm. The only thing PVP gave you was realm pride, no points...no gear...no ranks. Using L33T chat to talk smack to the other realm (before it was disabled).....Vanilla WoW was the best!
ohhhh noooes, now they only make 187 million a month in subs, plus another 50 million for names changes, server swaps, pets......lol....not to mention the trading cards, toys, ....lol....WOW makes more profit in a month than 90% of console games do in their entire lifespan... wait till blizzard release diablo3 and starcraft 2 expo, that will be a nice 9 million games sold in one month, diablo3 will most likeley go on to sell over 8 million by itself, if not more, starcraft and its expo's will take in a combined 15 million games sold Attention all other developers!!! You wish you were Blizzard!! you are not though, you release game after game every year-18 months, thats why your games are trash 90% of the time! Honestly, 90% of games released are utter wastes.
Any drop like this in subscriptions or purchases should be worrying for any company. The concern is that the trend may continue.
Blizzard still has Diablo 3 and the next two SC2 expansions I'm sure they're not worried. Plus with the amount of people who still play D2, D3 will probably take a lot of the WoW players.
I never played WOW. Never seem all that to me.
just like the roman empire its bound to fall, but soon as another expansion come out they be back up again.
bliz will never fall and if they do, the whole industry must be gone! They make more money in a month than 90% of console games do in their entire lifespan. the warcraft 3 battlechest, starcraft battlechest and diablo2 battlechest are still some of the best selling games every year, easily outselling killzone 3, uncharted 2 and alan wake! they (bliz) could kill WoW today and still make millions a year in residual income, they are also hard at work on a new mmo(Diablo online is my guess) which when it comes out will shatter all previous mmo launches by a giant margin GUARENTEED
