The cause of PSN’s problems has yet to be officially announced, although there are plenty of theories. Some blame the hackers. Others blame disgruntled Sony employees, 200 of which were given the axe from Sony’s online division at the end of March this year. Whatever the reason, PSN was brought to its knees. That means no multiplayer, no downloads, and no demos. Nothing. Hey, but at least Netflix still works. Still, that doesn’t give customers much confidence in a digital library when the network can be brought down without warning.
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
first outage in 5 years, and due to it being hacked now makes it nonfuture proof?
quit writing articles, ur making the gaming journalism and industry look bad
you have very valid points mr article man. the future is gay if games go download only. u think hackers are bad now. give it a few years itll get soooo much worse. nothings hack proof. at least not yet. and to be honest people always find a way. im just waitin on some nerd to hack a nuculear missle base and end the world..
cloud is useless to me but some are just so happy about it. to each their own. and when retail packaging ceases ill stop gaming. sorry, but i like to own my purchases
I don't see discs disappearing for a long time. I just see more advancements occurring, but not it fading. This isn't just about Sony, but its a general observation. In its current state, it just isnt practical to have digital release only.
Sure, giving the option is always welcomed. But removing that would have its consequences, all things considered.
rubbish, songs are digital, easy to get and quick, and you still can go buy them on cd in the store, yes on CD for the love of god.
So while digital is a great option now and in the future and it will only expand and get better there will always be the need to have the hardcopy in some fashion.
