Opinion: PSN 'TV and beyond' won't be seen on this generation

From PSPSPS:

"Yesterday, Sony's Chief Exec Sir Howard Stringer was talking up the future of the PlayStation Network, outlining its plans for a glorious future crossing over from PS3 and PSP consoles on to TV's "and beyond" offering music, movies and TV show ads. The reality is that although the idea of one glorified unified PlayStation Network taking root across all of Sony's wide ranging consumer technology products is undoubtedly appealing - and most importantly it sounds great to shareholders - we're a very long way from actually seeing it happen." More within...

It is his opinion.
It is not fact.

I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about...He says it's not to Sony's advantage to provide downloadable media because it'll be killing blu-ray, but I don't see anyone saying the same for Microsoft who is doing this AND supporting HD-DVD. Plus I like having the option of downloading something OR buying a blu-ray disc...to me, the more options the better!

SmokeyMcBear3593d ago

wow what a read.. not really. So its not going to work because of bluray, he thinks sony doesnt want to undermine the implementation of bluray, but then goes on to say that people are still satisfied with dvd and upscaling..doesnt that mean the implementation of a movie download is ok, because people are happy with dvd's??? This guy doesnt make any sense... opinions and a$$holes

Opinion it is and Sony could make even more money if they also sold movies over PSN.

Finally... Sony is being realistic.. and is starting to learn that a network required to provide such service is not made with potatos and even companies like microsoft which practically don't have to pay license fees to anyone since they make all the software used on xbox live.. from OS to Database applications... and a ton of money to spend is proving to be a challenge... ohh yeah... and let's not forget that Microsoft make money of xbox live which for the most part is able to generate revenues to keep itself alive... Yet they do not offer the service to all regions... and people expect SOny to do all this in just 1 year... sure...

his thinking has alot to do with how sony operates, the direction of the company and yes sony's biggest priority is STILL selling bluray movies to ensure they win the format war=

JOY

vvvv yeah you're right I did read it too quickly its not Stringer's qoute its the authors, but I do still agree with him about sony not releasing these services anytime soon.

Read it again and slowly this time.

This from the article:
"Yesterday, Sony’s Chief Exec Sir Howard Stringer was talking up the future of the PlayStation Network, outlining its plans for a glorious future crossing over from the PS3 and PSP consoles on to TVs “and beyond” offering music, movies and TV show downloads."

Everything stated after that is the opinion of the guy writing the article and not something stated by Stringer.
