Gameblurb writes, "There's been an image floating around the internet showing the evolution of what we purchase as a game these days now...and it's definitely frightening."
The truth is yes.
sad but true
It's sickening really.
its like watching a 3 quarters of a movie then having to buy the final quarter separately
Like Harry Potter
no the harry potter deathly hallows would have been awful if they did it all in one movie and you paying for two 2 hour movies. Not one 2 hour movie then an extra 30 minute movie.
yeah - because the book was unbelievably good and full of content. You could easily rip out the whole 'oh-we-are-in-the-woods-pa rt' and get rid of 400 from 700 pages. I really enjoyed HP, but the recent book is just boring and riddicoulus The movie however has to be splitted in two parts because of that whole 'oh-we-are-in-the-woods-si tuation' too, they could easily finish it in one movie.
@henryFord im not getting into an arguement about harry potter, But deathly hallows book was brilliant and part 1 was also brilliant. i understand you didnt like it but to be honest i dont reall care.
That's Capitalism for you.
Capcom are the worst for this... Dead Rising 2....they basicaly cut the beginging and the end of the game and sold it for DLC
The first one was like a dollar though and yeah you're still right..
SC2 is a huge offender. Charging full price for 3 separate pieces of a whole game. Would not be surprised one bit if they later announce if you want to play a certain Diablo 3 class you have to buy it's specific box all at full price.
I payed 250 NOK for SC2 day one. That's half the price of a normal PC game, and length-wise it's way more than twice of Portal 2 which was a fullprice game. We also don't know the price of the next 2 pieces yet.
the other two are meant to be expansions and will probably be priced as SC2 has as long of a campaign as the original Starcraft The expansions are most likely going to have a separate ladder like the relation between other Blizzard RTS
It's such a simple concept that society doesn't want to act on. If you don't like it, don't support it. Every single person who buys pointless DLC like this is telling the company it's okay to do. Just stop buying it and everything will get better (of course it won't be that easy, but it's not that hard, either).
So funny when people discover that video games is a business for profits and are shocked entertainment, and quality take a back seat.
It's not about them being a business trying to reap the profits .. But, you're right. They are a business, they should be making good value games. They should make the games the best that they can be for their loyal customers. Not screwing their customers over, who let them create more games. They should make the best product. So that we keep coming back, for others. Essentially, they are selling us two(+) products for which we should have got for one. Instead of selling us a great product and coming back for the next game they make. They have us paying multiple times for one game. Doesn't make me wan come back. Like a restaurant charging you for a drink, although there's no drink. Instead, they walk out and place in front of you a cup to hold your drink. If you want a drink, you paid for, then you hafta pay again for the drink. And, then they have you pay again for ice cubes and again for a straw.. That's not the way to treat your customers. You give what they pay for. Not this bit, and then this bit, and this bit.. oh, and this bit, too. Would you want to go back to a restaurant that treated you that way?
They should care but caring doesn't make money. If they cared we would get the huge uncut game with expansions like back in the day. But today (coincidently) we get portions of games via DLC after purchase of an alleged full game. Profits drive that. Profits shaped games to mean less today is more tomorrow... for download and a fee. It is all driven and shaped by profit, which is the goal of any buisness. No buisness or enterprise exists solely to make you happy. They want that legal tender.
Very true and very unfair. Thats why I don't buy expansion packs... errr... except for LittleBigPlanet.. ;P
This is the reason i haven't purchased a single piece of dlc this gen.
With the exception of GTA Liberty City Stories (where I bought a physical copy on sale for 20 bucks and it was well worth it), every DLC I've seen this gen looked like a boring rip-off so I passed on them. The only DLC I'd buy would be extensions of the SP. I don't mind paying 15 bucks for a 6-8 hr game that's the same quality as the 60 dollar version, but paying 15 bucks for maps, etc., to me is ridiculous. I can play happily for 40hrs on the maps included/accesible on the disk.
