DHS Probing Sony PlayStation Network Attack

The Homeland Security Department, charged with protecting the nation's critical infrastructure, is helping to mitigate the damage from a breach of customer account data on Sony's online video game and entertainment networks that could have affected 77 million users, DHS officials said.

The story is too old to be commented.

Hackers in for trouble....FBI and DHS, not good for them

thereapersson2401d ago

Where I actually promote a Government agency stepping in.

WhittO2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

Thing is, the hackers are probably outside of the US, what happens then?

Will prob be a long time before anything happens to them at all, if they can find them in the first place.

zag2401d ago

They just goto that country do the required stuff.

Have the local police arrest them then local police hand them over to FBI/CIA and they all go back home.

Just because your in another country doesn't mean you can't be arrested.

MAiKU2401d ago

Those Hackers read the news just like us. I wonder what their faces look like when they see this.

MmaFan-Qc2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

i would totally pay to see the face and the reaction of the hacker(s) learning about it.

priceless.

willie322401d ago

I hope the government comes down hard on the hackers.

Ravage272401d ago

Those hackers need to have both their arms chopped off after their jailterm to ensure that they can't do anymore harm.

*Darrell Foxworth said in a statement. "We are presently reviewing the available information in an effort to determine the facts and circumstances concerning this alleged criminal activity."

They must have messed his gaming time up by hacking the PSN now he's after them cuz he can't play MK online.

@below or he's more of a uncharted person either way they messed with his game time.

IMChampion2401d ago

LoL so true. I think he's a Socom man though ;)

DatNJDom812401d ago

Hope they get the hackers that did this. Hope they destroy anonymous while they are at it.

Tripl3seis2401d ago

That's a kick ass name btw foxworth I think his more of a battle field type guy then socom that just me tho but on the topic the hackers are gona get what's coming to them thank god.

Wow you guys are soooooooo wrong. The DHS is lining up with every other in the government agency in the world to extract their pound of flesh from Sony, for being in violation of PCI DSS standards and a multitude of data retention and protection laws all throughout the world.

LOL.

The hackers are long gone.

Silly gameAr2401d ago

I'm going to laugh so hard when your little troll campaign blows up in your face.

TronEOL2401d ago

And you sir, are wrong. There is nothing Sony could really do. There isn't a company on this planet that is safe from these types of attacks. These were just terribly focused and disgruntled hackers.

The government isn't a bunch of fanboys, or twisted hackers. They see that someone stole vital personal information, and they don't want that happening. They know better than to attack Sony when they SHOULD be attacking the person who STOLE the information to begin with.

You don't get angry at the guy who owns the house when it gets broken in to. You get angry at the criminal who stole all your shit.

As for the hackers/criminals being long gone? Sorry bro, but as long as they're on earth, they'll be caught.

evrfighter2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

to appease the people in an age where cloud computing is headed. Sony will be made an example of. you can bank on that.

The message will be clear. safeguard the consumer data or we will make your life miserable.

there's a lot of people, and companies spending time and money lobbying for cloud computing. a lot of r&d going into it. at this point I bet they're willing to do anything including sacrificing Sony to try and win back consumer confidence.

Shadow Flare2401d ago

gee evrfighter, you've not a bad word to say about hackers do you?

Allow me to add the 11th disagree

To quote mr. tron up there again:

"There isn't a company on this planet that is safe from these types of attacks. These were just terribly focused and disgruntled hackers...

...You don't get angry at the guy who owns the house when it gets broken in to. You get angry at the criminal who stole all your shit."

But yeah, by your reasoning, the homeowner should shoulder 90% of the blame and be fined for it. Bad homeowner!! We gotta make an example outta you!!!

fedexas2401d ago

....No. But keep trying, you're almost there.

zag2401d ago

"Wow you guys are soooooooo wrong. The DHS is lining up with every other in the government agency in the world to extract their pound of flesh from Sony, for being in violation of PCI DSS standards and a multitude of data retention and protection laws all throughout the world."

You don't understand what is going on do you?

The government will ask what is happening or Sony face will face fines so the government can decide what to do law wise to protect people's data.

Sony will comply and let them know what is happening and they won't get fined, because they will have done everything to the law in terms of protecting people's data.

The hackers won't be long gone because they will have let tons of logs all over routers all over the net.

It just takes time to get all the logs together.

And that is all it is right now, it's not even a running game it's just a matter of time.
