Operation Flashpoint: Red River review (BeefJack)

BeefJack: "The new Operation Flashpoint tries to bring the two contrasting sides of the first-person action genre together, but it doesn’t merge them as much as it slams them into one another, taking no care to sew up the seams. While you’re in the thick of the action this is still an engrossing, tense and challenging game – but in between, while your foul-mouthed sergeant blathers on about something or other, and the music kicks in at exactly the wrong moment, you might find yourself wondering what exactly you’re supposed to be playing."

I personally found the middle ground very pleasant indeed. Gone was the boring simulation and gone was the repetitive nature of the arcade shooter, replaced instead with a nice balance of action and thoughtful game-play. I'm really enjoying it.

I hope more games go this way in the future, because its a really nice change of pace.
