PlayStation Network: Nightmare Could Negatively Impact NGP (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (June 7-9), we expect Sony to roll out the proverbial red carpet for its Next Generation Portable (PSP), the company's upcoming handheld, launching this fall/winter.

Hopes are high that the publisher will deliver a PlayStation 3 quality experience, albeit in handheld form, and give Nintendo and Apple heavy competition in the heated portable market.

Are you fucking kidding me? Another bullshit article!

just_looken2701d ago

yep the train is here expect 300pounds of bs articles and 3,000 fanboys oh dont forget the 20,000 sheep.

Ju2701d ago

Thought the same thing. Drag something into this which isn't even released. Boy, people are getting really creative, lately.

Man, that link with the damage is even more hilarious!

Kurt Russell2701d ago

N4g is writhe today with people who can't seem to get online with their precious today.

Anyone else noticed this?

FragGen2701d ago

+1. NGP is day one. I still like my Ps3 better than my 360, too. A network outage doesn't really change anything for me personally as long as it is fixed.

cochise3132701d ago

Yeah, me too. It's too sweet to pass up. The network will be back up long before this releases. Silly articles.

I'm soo glad you said that bro. Cos [email protected] the hackers no matter what's gon on Sony still makes good systems and do there best to give us good games. I'm also getting the NGP.

norman292701d ago

Im surprised there hasnt been a story about how Annon claimed they were doing all this 'for the gamers' yet they go and knock out our online gaming capabilities, steal all our personal info and (supposedly) make fraudulent transactions from peoples bank accounts, yet all the blame goes to Sony, and all the bullshit about how its Sony's fault and it should be better protected, any and i mean literally anything connected to the WWW can be hacked into but the only reason it happened to Sony was because a bunch of kids didnt like the fact there bestest mate was being taken to court for being a naughty boy.

UnNaTuRaL12701d ago

I am really on the fence for anything Sony rite now. I own all systems sony has released to date but it may end there. Its all about principle with me. Sony tryed to do the rite thing in thwarting hackers but they went about it the wrong way. The last thing you wanna do is piss off a bunch of hackers by taking some of the most respected ones to court. That caused a uprising of which completely f'd over psn users as well as sony themselves not to mention what started it all the removal of other os. The degree of difficulty in using the other os hack was not something 99% of the user base could even do. Sony should have just patched what they could and try not to piss hackers off in the process by not going after them.

xTruthx2701d ago (Edited 2701d ago )

Well.... from your comment history...looks like you dont like wut sony does...

mrv3212701d ago

Dude, your an idiot, and that statement wins the most moronic statement of the day.

'Sony tryed to do the rite thing in thwarting hackers but they went about it the wrong way [ Taking the guy behind it to cout]' What was the right way? Giving us his house address, getting him killed. Taking him to court was probably the best thing, heck I'm sure you cheered it when they announced he was in court.

'That caused a uprising' This isn't a war, some guys got into PSN we don't know if it's Anon or just some people who used a hacked PS3 ( in which case taking George Hotz to court was about the only thing they could do and had no effect on outcome ) to reverse engineer the store and get in.

'f'd over psn users as well as sony themselves not to mention what started it all the removal of other os.' Can't swear on the internet, how sad... Sony trust me didn't know about the hack PRIOR to taking it down, I don't know why you think Sony can read the future. Everyone gets hacked, your wireless, EVERYTHING. Removal of Other OS? Did you ever use it? I run 3 Linux machines, by far the best OS in the world and I can't reiterate time and time again HOW STUPID PS3 OS was, it barely worked, and was so limited. If you really want other OS that bad PUT IT ON YOUR COMPUTER... SERIOUSLY it's easy, and will improve your computer ten fold I suggest Ubuntu 10.10 or 10.04 if you want stability however 11.04 with Gnome 3 shell ontop is mighty fine ( 1 of my machines runs this ) or if your computer is old then Lupuntu is great ( Another one of my machines ) and finally my slightly better computer which is running 9.10 which is so beautiful..

I'm not one to call people names but you obviously can't comprehend what i am saying. I was obviously stating reasons as to why things led up to something like this happening. You piss off the wrong people and this is the result.

#1 Sony removing a feature that was standard with all systems at that point in time over a vulnerability that could not have be done by 99% of the psn userbase.

#2 After the keys were leaked by geohot and his custom firmware hit. They then took actions by taking him to court. Nothing came from that case and it didn't do any good other than the fact he cannot hack anything sony. Now they raided Graf and took all his stuff and he is fixing to have to go through the same ordeal for doing nothing more than bringing back Linux with even better support than sony had with other os. Neither person supported piracy in any way.

That was a huge mistake pissing off the hacking community and your seeing the results. Sony should have worked on securing there network and instead they try to bully individuals as a scare tactic to try to thwart off others from doing the same. My point is Sony shouldn't have pissed off the hacking community. You don't see the same type of thing with microsoft or nintendo but both their systems are hacked. They go about business and release updates to thwart piracy as sony should have done. You don't go after individuals or you will end up pissing off the wrong people.

'#1 Sony removing a feature that was standard with all systems at that point in time over a vulnerability that could not have be done by 99% of the psn userbase.'

Other OS isn't a standard, name me another current generation system that has the ability with in the OS to install Linux, Unix, Free BSD or what ever? Don't worry I'll wait... still waiting... name me one. SO let me get this straight, you don't like being hacked, but you think a feature should be left in because 99% of the users who didn't use the feature can't use it for hacking. Have you used Other OS? No. Ok.

'Nothing came from that... he cannot hack anything sony' Nope I'm sure your right nothing came from that what so ever, your 100% right.

'nothing more than bringing back Linux with even better support than sony had with other os' Yeah I'm sure that's the only thing that CFW is used for Linux... the ONLY thing, no piracy what so ever. Also, Better support than Sony... excuse.

Your COMPUTER uses a CPU this is a standard, it's probably a dual-core or Quad-core, the PS3 is complete different that's why it didn't work, sounds to me that you don't know what your talking about. Other OS didn't work well on PS3 because the PS3 is a GAMING SYSTEM.

'Neither person supported piracy in any way.' Yeah... sure... if I give you a gun and bullets and give you the option to kill and you do kill I did not support your murder.

'Sony should have worked on securing there network and instead they try to bully individuals as a scare tactic to try to thwart off others from doing the same.' Ok, I'm convinced your an IDIOT. SONY DID NOT KNOW THAT THE HACK WAS INCOMING. ARE YOU SUGGESTING EVERY WEEK SONY INCREASE ENCRYPTION? YOU REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SONY IS DOING, WHAT THE HACK WAS OR ANYTHING.

'You don't see the same type of thing with microsoft or nintendo but both their systems are hacked.'

Get the idea? Each a different hack... so what where they? Erm did they not happen according to you?

They go about business and release updates to thwart piracy as sony should have done.

SONY DID UPDATE THEIR SYSTEM, NUMEROUS TIMES... DO YOU EVEN OWN A PS3?

'You don't go after individuals or you will end up pissing off the wrong people.'

They did both, and guess what SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE.

hiredhelp2701d ago

UNatural , You stated Sony had done the wrong thing pissing off hackers.
You stated you own all the systems to date as do I.
Then you will know from days of old Sony was the first console to put in protection against piracy to combat hackers. When they come out with the ozone they changed the board to stop it from bedding chipped couldn't be done.
Ps2 they changed the board chipping them was real tough.
Cd,rs was still used for games but then DVD.s came launched of with GTA
From then they put in dummy files. Did whatever they could to stop hackers.

Soo Sony has been fighting hackers for years , this is a new generation now not like the old hackers it's about kids getting more advanced yet loose there sense of respect don't know were the line is. Sony has only tried to do what was right .
They made mistakes but ca,mon if this was microsft by now it be open and closed cos money be involved. Hong kong china and japan have morals that's why they won't let this go. Sorry had to say that. But true

SpaceSquirrel2701d ago

The issue should probably be resolved by the time the NGP launches

blackburn52701d ago (Edited 2701d ago )

That is idiotic. There is no right way to deal with criminals. Do you think that anything Sony did would have made a difference. Sony told them no and they threw a temper tantrum. I am not sure how you can reason with the unreasonable. Why couldn't the hackers give up and try to make peace? Why couldn't they try to be reasonable from the start? Why did they resort to violence, extortion and lies? @ SpaceSquirrel i am sure they will lock the NGP with the strongest security on the market.
