Local Gamestop Not Taking Anymore Used PS3 Consoles Until Further Notice?

GizmoFusion.com says: We have to go with this as a rumor for now, but in light of whats going on with Sony and their PSN Network issues, we thought it would be best to put it out there in case anyone was looking to trade in their PS3 anytime soon. According to an email we received it would appear that at least one local Gamestop is not taking anymore trade-in’s of Sony’s Playstation 3 console, as they were overwhelmed. The email came from a fan of the site, who had enough of the issues, and wanted to trade in his/her PS3 for an Xbox 360. The manager in the store said they were not taking anymore as trade-in’s and to check back in a day or two.

Again, this is obviously not a company wide policy right now, but could be a decision made by local management. When we hear more we will be certain to update you with any relevant information.

Wouldn't be surprised, this is Gamestop were talking about,

NatureOfLogic2341d ago

they're doing the right thing. I can only imagine how many angy customers are trying to return or trade their ps3s because of PSN outage/breach.

Tr10wn2341d ago

I think is not trolling mate is facts why the hell you want a PS3 if you can't get online and even when you can get online your information is at risk i was about to sell mine before the outage but now ill have to wait since everyone will use that for and excuse to sell it cheaper.

Baccra2341d ago

It has nothing to do about "the right thing." People are angry and what do you expect? Knew something like this would happen though. This is why whether you hate them or not, you don't willing piss off people that can hurt you/cause you problems.

One week without online playing and so many people return their ps3s?! Come on, this gives the idea of how "sick" some people are about gaming..

I mean, I'm not happy either about not being able to play in the last few days, but it's not like it's going to be that way forever - AND I have a social life. But maybe someone just doesn't..

Scyrus2341d ago

actually this is true kingelixer, i didn't even think of that. makes sense

"We have to go with this as a rumor for now"

Stopped reading there. There's simply way too much fake crap being made up right now to trust anything until it's been proven.

"I mean, I'm not happy either about not being able to play in the last few days, but it's not like it's going to be that forever - AND I have a social life. But maybe someone just doesn't"

Did you forget the part about personal info being compromised??

"Come on, this gives the idea of how "sick" some people are about gaming.."

"Sick" enough to completely leave out half the reason why they may be returning them?

gallospqra2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

@taylork37

"Did you forget the part about personal info being compromised??"

I most certainly did not, but it's not like returning the console is going to solve the problem. Plus, once the psn is coming back online it's presumably going to be more secure and reliable, so I don't see why I shouldn't use it anymore.

""Sick" enough to completely leave out half the reason why they may be returning them?"

The reason I suppose they're returning them is for not being able to play online - and I've seen some examples.

Me personally, am not interested in a PS3 for it's online, it would be for the exclusives. Don't get me wrong though, I can see how this hinders people who want to game online for free.

Did you think it may not be meant solve any problem? Instead they are just not happy about what happened and potentially unaware that it could happen on XBL as well?

"The reason I suppose they're returning them is for not being able to play online - and I've seen some examples"

Again whether or not it solves the problem or not, people may be returning them because they are not happy with situation as a whole, including the CC and personal info being compromised. It may have put a bad taste in certain peoples mouth as a whole for the company.

Especially the non-hardcore gamers and parents.

How about this, call or stop by a gamestop and ask if they are taking them. I'll do it now.
Just got off the phone with them and they know nothing about not being able to take them.
This site needs to stop spreading fud.
@tr10wn oh um I don't have any clue why I would want a ps 3 if you can't play online, maybe the great single player games. This site is pathetic douche bags everywhere.
As if I would want to trade in my ps for an inferior console. That's redonkulous. No thanks you can keep your gesture based gaming and lack of exclusives to your self.

TBM2341d ago

Im not trading in my PS3 this happens everywhere. If you think youre completely secure your a fool.

Your info is in danger in all parts of life when paying or buying with credit cards. Not is our government computers are 100% secure.

I don't play that much online so I don't see a reason to trade in my system, and I damn sure not going to sign up for live just to play online when its free on PC, PS3, and even the goddamn Wii.

The Matrix2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

I have my PS3 locked up in my shed and under 24/7 surveillance until I know exactly what's going. Better not to take any chances.

ThePsychoGamer2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

So there keeping gamers from making a rash mistake.
No one should sell there used gaming items to Gamestop.

The Matrix2341d ago

They would probably only give you $17 for a used PS3 anyway.

TheDeadMetalhead2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

Hm. If that was the case, I wonder if I could stand outside a Gamestop and pay somebody $30 for their PS3 instead of trading it in...

xstation792341d ago

Thats more than whats its worth at the moment

hobohunterz2341d ago

lol yeah gamestop has always been ps3 unfriendly :)

It's probably because PSN is still down and Sony is taking a beating right now. They won't be making any money off used ps3s for a bit. But this will blow over soon.

orange-skittle2341d ago

It's their own fault. Keeping people in the dark for a week without explanation is appalling. Much worse, not informing them that their credit card info was leaked is even worse. I guess you get what you pay for.

cyclonus0072341d ago

They said they found out Monday that information might have been taken and let everyone know Tuesday. They also said there's no evidence of credit card numbers being stolen. If people wants to be notified every time your information is in danger, you'd be in a constant state of alert. Nothing is safe anywhere, anymore.

Sony is just another entity that's been hacked. A list that includes Visa, CapitalOne, MasterCard, BofA, Xbox Live, even The Pentagon. All of which shrugged it off. This too will shall pass.

TBM2341d ago

@cyclo

Kudos to you for understanding how the real world is, and if the pentagon can be hacked you best believe anything can.

Bubbles to you sir.
