Why Sony's breach is one of confidence, not just security

BeefJack: "What would I like to have seen? A more personable voice updating me on events. An hourly Twitter feed with progress updates, perhaps. At least a promise of some sort of compensation matching the distress that’s been caused.

"Of course the breach isn’t Sony’s fault per se, and although there have been reports of embarrassingly poor security, those who are placing the blame solely on those in charge of running the PlayStation Network are probably taking it a step too far. But for me, that isn’t what this is all about any more."

Sony kept you everybody updated as soon as they had information. You can't expect Sony to tell you something Sony doesn't even know about to begin with.

Temporary_Name2494d ago

So are you saying Sony's not to blame for this situation?

TotalPS3Fanboy2494d ago

blaming somebody for getting rob.
Or blaming a girl for getting rape.

Sony and PS3 gamers are the victim here. You need to focus your anger at the attack, the hackers.

TotalPS3Fanboy:

From the article - "Of course the breach isn’t Sony’s fault per se, and although there have been reports of embarrassingly poor security, those who are placing the blame solely on those in charge of running the PlayStation Network are probably taking it a step too far."

TotalPS3Fanboy I've seen that argument posted a couple times in the past few days. Though I think you are looking at it wrong. In the situation of your data being protected. Its more like expecting someone who is a black belt to not get beat up by a random mugger. If they lose, then you would think to yourself. what use is the kung fu?

In this case people expected for Sony's kung fu to be strong. Though it seems either their kung fu wasn't strong enough. That or maybe they didn't know any at all.

...my head hurts from these articles, it really does.

sony had to conduct an investigation first before they informed the public of what was going on. they had to make sure they had the facts straight. if they went public with no proof and little information, they would have been pelted with eggs in seconds.

i really wish that people would use common sense. a huge company like sony could not go public unless they knew EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

an that's Something Sony has to roll with...Some that i would gather posted about the confidence in Sony is OK because Sony Expects it after this..they already know it...this is not giving Sony a free pass..but on the same Token.

Here is the thing is was a mistake, an a huge blunder..so they are now going to get a Law suit..here is a point, do people care there will never be a playstation again, maybe they deserve to be out of this market right?

that's Why Im saying Sony is rebuilding the psn network, the damage is done an if the law suits happen so be it.

Sony can take all the blame for this an be "TOADED"

Has Sony learned from this mistake?

SOME MAY SAY NOT WELL ENOUGH

AT Some point it's Moot..the die is cast what's done is done. this is going to be a test of Sony's brand to survive. after this i doubt anyone could say that Sony will not be the underdog in the generations moving forward with the damage the brand took this past week's an frankly since the PS3 released.

EVEN IF SONY ADMITTED TO THE FAIL, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO MAKE UP THEIR MIND ABOUT THE BRAND MOVING FORWARD..DEVELOPER'S AN CONSUMER'S AN

THE MARKET...at a certain point it's Over an done with..an Sony is going to loose support an their going to try to rebuild good will. you cannot expect them not to, If you do not want to hear it, than that's your right.

but one could say Sony may come back stronger from such failure...or they could fail some more anyway, but their still going to try even with Taking A Failure such as this.

Sony has taken Quite the beating, An Sony knows it..but after a while the rock bottom is that the rock bottom, an you can always move up.

IF YOU LOOK AT ALL THE TOP STORIES ON THE FORUM
Right now do you think the consumer has been quite informed about the fail enough or does this need to keep being posted an the top stories need to be duplicated so many times that its the same thing over again an again to damage the image of Sony further?

I say damage away..the true test of how well Sony bounces back from this is How well they respond to the damage to their Image. which right now it is quite severe.

at this point Sony pretty much had faild but the test will be rebuilding the brand image.

Doom saying aside..we will see about the brand bounce back moving forward
