With all the focus on a Wii successor, has everyone been ignoring the possibility of a new version of the original Wii? Jason Ross at PixlBit explores Nintendo's history of redesigns, and in the process ponders what Nintendo might change if they were to release a Wii revision.
The author makes a good point that there is something fishy about retailers dropping the Wii's price now rather than waiting for the expected official price reduction in May. Could they be trying to liquidate their stock of old Wiis to make room for a new model? Who knows, but it's interesting to speculate about.
I agree that a redesigned Wii is unlikely to have HD output. I think that it's pretty late in the game to make that change. I'm honestly not sure what Nintendo would change. Making the console smaller seems rather unnecessary, considering how tiny it is already. Does anyone really find the current design too bulky or cumbersome? It's smaller than many DVD players.
