Is Nintendo Planning a Wii Redesign?

With all the focus on a Wii successor, has everyone been ignoring the possibility of a new version of the original Wii? Jason Ross at PixlBit explores Nintendo's history of redesigns, and in the process ponders what Nintendo might change if they were to release a Wii revision. (GameCube, Industry, Next-Gen, Nintendo, Retro, Wii)

Maybe... It will be interesting to see how Nintendo handles its current console in its last few years, before & just after the release of Project Cafe.

Why not? They can support more than 1 console at a time, Sony is doing it with the PS2 and Wii games would still certainly sell.

and calling it next gen in the process

Interesting article.

The author makes a good point that there is something fishy about retailers dropping the Wii's price now rather than waiting for the expected official price reduction in May. Could they be trying to liquidate their stock of old Wiis to make room for a new model? Who knows, but it's interesting to speculate about.

I agree that a redesigned Wii is unlikely to have HD output. I think that it's pretty late in the game to make that change. I'm honestly not sure what Nintendo would change. Making the console smaller seems rather unnecessary, considering how tiny it is already. Does anyone really find the current design too bulky or cumbersome? It's smaller than many DVD players.

you can't redesign perfection, the wii is the sexiest, most fun, most clean and spot on console design in history. only the slim ps2 is close to it

not really. If there's no interest in Wii, and its list of games, and if there is overlap with respect to the markets the consoles are aimed at, then Project Cafe will most certainly replace Wii (which will exit production once the new console is on a steady footing).

I was thinking that at first about it being a wii slim or would it be a wii fat or something, cause it's going to be playable at E3 shouldn't it be player next E3.
