According to reports, Microsoft E&D GM Daniel Schiappa has hinted that a PlayStation Home-like virtual world will be coming to Xbox 360 within the next year.
I´m really not interested in this kinda thing! I just wanna play so cut it out with all that self-fl*ffing!!!
Next thing, you'll be able to link your account to facebook...eek!
I really hope this isn't true. It would be a waste of resources. Does anybody honestly want a "Home Clone" on Xbox Live? How bout some dedicated servers and Clan Support built into the Dashboard instead.
Exactly, I don't want to do all that gay sh!t like you can do in home. I just want to play. live is perfect the way it is. That's what makes it so good, simple, yet awesome.
I would say that MS will not be cloning Home. They will better it with emphasis on more functional features. And it will be a laugh if it launches before Home does... Poor Sony.
I think the entire industry knew this was going to happen as soon as Home was announced.
You are right Meus. Home is potentially too big of an addition to PSN for MS not to bring some sort of competition to it. Figured it would happen sooner or later. I personally feel they should not waste any resourses on it and focus on fixing their current product so it has NO defects.
You'll be happy to know that the Xbox 360 no longer has any heat issues. How do we know this? And we've been seeing the improved hardware for months now.
Motherboard Version 1.1. This Motherboard has fewer components, smaller components, new layout, and a new CPU/GPU mounting methodology.
Look at this: http://www.mainstageclothin...
"Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers."
Microsoft said at the Tokyo Game Show:
"We have made all the improvements in our manufacturing process, All the consoles on the market have those improvements.
While Im sure you'd say your happy with your PS3, stop talking smack about the Xbox 360 -- just go buy one like the rest of the planet is doing in droves.
@at parent regarding "the whole industry"
What makes you say this? Are you somehow in communication with The Whole Industry? Microsoft has been working on Virtual Earth for many years, and has had VRML projects for a long time too.
Do you think MS had never seen Second Life? Second Life on a console ie: Sony Home isnt exactly unique or groundbreaking.
Further, Home isnt a Virtual Earth is it? A Second Life fantasy land vs. a GeoCentric Virtual Earth would (really) be two totally different things.
look at those bubbles, amazing on this site
@wageslave "You'll be happy to know that the Xbox 360 no longer has any heat issues. How do we know this? And we've been seeing the improved hardware for months now."
Do you have any proof to back your theories up? Or do you just believe everything Microsoft tells you? I seem to recall Microsoft once denying the whole issue on whether or not there was an issue with the consoles, so my advice would be to not believe everything M$ tells you.
LOL damn I knew this was going to happen but yet MS fanboys always say that SONY is the one that copies from people, just look at VISTA they coped that too any software geek will tell you that.
....isnt confirmed, so no need to rant about VISTA. Its business, everyone copies everyone, get over it, how do you think consoles have got this far, by copying ideas from the past and tried to improve upon them.
Ever seen the movie, "The Pirates of Silicon Valley?"
....hope Microsoft don't do this. I am really not interested in Home for my ps3, i would much rather have a steady stream of AAA titles come out for a console than a second life style lobby thing such as Home. Just focus on the games microsoft because at the moment this is what your console is for, playing games, keep it simple.
You got both AAA titles coming by the handful and Home so no need to get angry hippo.
yeah because everyone knows that when HOME comes out there wont be any AAA game at all ..seriously GET REAL WITH YOURSELF dont be a fool..why do people think that this type of online service will make your system not get AAA games..lol..funny xbots.. HOME is online GAMING COMMUNITY it have everythin do with games..it will be a great hit..
this is just a ploy to get Emos to get off there Wii's...
typical micros**t those asses steal everything they already control most computers on the planet now gaming consoles what next our existence f**k you ms you bastards.
NO one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy it.
can MS be more pathetic? probably will cost a fortune because thats the way MS deals with its coustumers by giving them more bills....
Well. don really care but still pretty pathetic...
did the same with Buz.... now home.. hmm... get a life
Virtual Earth isnt a Home clone. Home is a clone of Second Life. Virtual Earth is neither. It is a 3D map of the planet. Not a game lobby.
Who knows what MS would do with a Virtual Earth client on the Console. What Virtual Earth (on the PC) is becoming is totally unrelated to Home.
Home == a virtual shopping mall, a 3D game lobby and chat universe.
Virtual Earth == A platform for layering information over a Map of the Planet. It is a planetary Geographic Information System ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
I hope they do bring Virtual Earth to Xbox 360. Its very cool already... why wouldnt I want that in my living room?
And, for more information on the genesis of these kinds of ideas, I *highly* recommend Neil Stephensons book Snow Crash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
"ripped off google"?
No. Not at all son. See that is the problem with being ignorant. See Virtual Earth is a 3D interface to MicroSoft Mappoint. Mappoint was written for Encarta and Streets & Trips software over 10 years ago.
Virtual Earth is just one in the string of GIS and Mapping software MS has done since before Google existed.
So they do a ripoff of Google Earth and that makes them not ripoff artists how?
When the guys arrive tomorrow at MS and boot you back up, tell them you need a firmware update to add some personality. You sound like an advertisement.
"And, for more information on the genesis of these kinds of ideas, I *highly* recommend Neil Stephensons book Snow Crash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
That was like an in game ad.
Maybe MS is selling ad space inside posts too.
Jesus dude, and did you call him "son"? LOL
You're obviously a 'wageslave' to MS. (sorry but it was just too hard not to write it)
While it all depends on what they do with it, I do agree Virtual Earth is different than Home, and they clearly stated it would be. Besides, who cares if they copied it, its called capitalism. Interesting to see what they will do with it but it seems a far way off.
They can't let Sony have a monopoly on a console version of 2nd life. So think of it as a 1 year timed exclusive for the PS3.
From whom allways bashed the ps3 home, it's a strange atitude....
I don't need some cutesy avatar running around the screen before I get into a game. Just add group chat from dashboard!! gCM
I'd rather hear that they're investing money to make sure Mass Effect 2 & 3 are exclusive to their platform. Their userbase is probably the most hardcore, and I can't imagine this being something that they really wanted.
I am going to presume they are bringing Virtual Earth to the Xbox 360.
It is aimed at the general market, more of a casual all-purpose Earth-Map platform than a "Game Centric".
The two things are vastly different animals. One is fantasy (Second Life, HOME), the other is a replica of reality (Virtual Earth).
This proves my point that Micro$hit wants nothing other than to be the second coming of Sony. First they steal Sony's console features, then they TRY to steal Sony's exclusives, now they're trying to steal Sony's firmware technology such as home.
What a bunch of copycats.
P L A Y B 3 Y O N D
Home wins by default.
This is not something for the 360 meant to compete with home, this is actually bigger, to go up against google earth's next iteration and secondlife..... live is not changing
....read the original story from gameindustrybiz guys
I think their next step is to copy Google man can you imagine it
I hope they will allow us to fully customize our avatars.
I want to be a stormtrooper.
Or an Ewok.
Or maybe even an original Cylon.
MS why? and how much would you charge for this... lol
I really don't care who had the idea first! I think is the wave of the future and each console needs this sort of involvement. Home on the ps3, home on the 360 and the Wii!
damn you microsoft damn you to hell
Sony stole the idea from Second Life. Get real.
sony comes along with a great idea yes maybe not the original thing but a good idea they bust their balls working on it and perfecting it then those assmasters come along and rip it off.
there is no justice in the world no god damn justice god damn you to hell you bastards.
that a lot of 360 owners do not wanna see this happen!
I doubt it will even be as extensive as Home because Home has been in development for a while. Then again charging $50 a year it's the least they can do.
it has been in development for over 5 years. Anyways, MS could call their version "XBL Crib", that's way cooler than that lame "Home". (just kidding, lol)
As for MS being copycats, well sure they are. Just like Sony and almost every company in every sector is. It's just normal bussiness.
As soon as ps3 get's in game(or even cross game) messaging and invites, you won't hear me shouting: "Damn those evil copycats!" It's just evolution.
But some spokes people for ms/xbl did try their upmost to discredit home though, guess they were a touch pissed they weren't first to the punch
Microsoft copycats, always have been in everything.
Home is just copied sims.
lol that would be sooo lame :D but we know it will come, just like Zune or the MS phone...
Wonder where Sony snatched the home idea from?
Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson.
Home isnt original in any sense.
hell no..they better not copy sony.. especially when xbots think it was a bad idea..but now i bet you they be happy and say its kool..i hope it isnt true..
I´m a 360 fan but not a boy! I really hope Microsoft will sit one in. For heavens sake don´t bring this to Xbox Live. I just wanna play! With this being said I found it interesting that the Microsoft version of home will be centered around games and not the other way round. Still don´t bring it to Live!!!
But it won't be something you have to use, you just can if you want to, that's never bad.
"I think they've definitely taken some concepts that we originated like achievements, but I think they're pushing in a different direction and we've sort of fundamentally got two different approaches going on here," [Chris Satchell] said.
Nintendo Power originated the Achievement.
Everybody copies everbody. Just bussines as usual. People shouldn't act like it is just MS. All the companies do it.
As long as I can still use my xbox blades to navigate I'll be happy. I’m not interested in Home; That said I do think MS will do a good job of it as they are a software company and if they can tie it in with Windows like MSN then I think it could be even more successful. .
lol great stuff now if they make it free and add a little product reliability the 360 will gain some real lasting power.
this children is what you call business 101, if your compition offers a service that potentailly attracts new consumers then you counter with your own service, its not brain science.
and for all of you screaming about who copied who etc, EVERYONE COPIES EVERYONE!! thats they way things work, social network has been a pipe dream of the industry for years, but only lately is there the call/demand for it, with so many people now being connected via the internet, now is the perfect time for companies to launch.
also, i notice alot of people who seem to think having a service such as this effects the games, im not sure how you've come up with this, home is being worked on by people who ONLY work on home, sony hasnt pulled developers off games for this and nor will M$.
how ever you look at it, people want this type of service, and wether your one of them or not, you are not forced to use it, if you have a ps3 and dont want home, dont download it and same if your an xbox live user.
home vit ut cell
de is no home vit ut cell ca run 12 hdtv att sem
most of the people on here who are saying "yea well Sony copies too, in fact everyone copies someone..." at one point in time or another slammed Sony like there was no tomorrow over something they copied. So just let me ask you guys something? How does your whole freaking foot taste? need some salt?
no matter how you put it is the last place on earth I want to spend my time ... Gimme 4 player co-op any day !!!!
And I'm sure Home will be nice, but I'd rather just boot up my game and go straight to it. I don't want to walk around and interact with my environment and watch my avatar do his thing on the screen. I just want to play my game. While I'll download this on my PS3 when it finally arrives (it is free afterall), I'll probably not mess with it much.
These could be more than just 'virtual lobbies'. MS Virtual Earth is nothing like Second Life.
But Second Life and Home are similar. And I think that that if Sony allowed developers to inject Objects and code into Home as a Platform (similar to Second Life), then Sony could be onto something.
Think about Home as World of Warcraft. The Consoles and players have avatars. But instead of a fantasy hack and slash RPG. The game can be "anything".
Imagine for instance: I setup a virtual kiosk and setup an CIA-type-Assassin Game *inside* Home. I give for free, or sell (my revenue to create this content) tickets with GamerTags on them.
You must find that GamerTag's avatar and "kill him". Someone else is given your name and he is looking for you.
See? Its a simple, in-Home Game. There are tonnes of other things you could do. If Home is setup as a kind of platform ala Second Life or WoW where the other NPCs and Models are open to 3rd party development.
*THIS* is where the power of Home lies. As a 3D Chat room, meh. But as an wild 3D free for all with people building cool things -- then yes, it is cool.
I think MS knows this. So, look at Virtual Earth. It is a real-world data-overlay, if they extend that platform to allow non-real models and objects to be injected into it, it could be the same kind of 3D platform for new types of experiences that Sony might _actually_ have in mind.
Im an IT professional who has a real respect for the great innovation and quality products that Microsoft delivers year in and year out.
Home could be something very cool if Implemented correctly. Second Life is just a glimmer (under-funded) of what could happen in this space.
I hope MS recognizes the opportunity such a platform could bring. Virtual Earth would need much change to be like Second Life / Home. As it stands now, Virtual Earth is very very cool at what it *does* do -- but it (as far as I can tell) isnt really like Home or Second Life at all. It is a real-scale, true to reality 3D planet. Not the scaled-to the avatar virtual world ala SL or Home will be.
If MS brings Virtaul Earth to Xbox 360, I'd like that. If MS extended it to be like I describe, then it cold be very cool indeed. Imagine you could buy in-game airplanes and fly through the 3D cities. Or roll around the Grand Canyon in a Warthog.
But, as for all this "copycat" talk. Second Life and Home are realizations of what people tried to do with some success with VRML in the 80's. Second Life, There and others have all done this MMO 3D world thing. Home would be the first on a console (as far as I know) -- but bringing an idea from the PC to the Console isnt exactly an independant and ground breaking act of "innovation". It is seeing something and replicating it.
dont bet on it.
Home is so ghey please dont waste your time MS.
"Entertainment and Devices boss turned up on stage at the Virtual Worlds Conference And Expo in San Jose and stated: "...by next year, you'll probably know more about why I'm up here."
Um, this doesn't say anything specifically about 360. I mean, MS does a lot of PC software and I read somewhere they were working on satellite based photos for some project similar to Google Earth. It's far to early to speculate on where this would appear at this point. They may be incorporating their Virtual Earth project into something bigger.
yes, its actually about their plans to counter Googles upcomming virtual community feature. Lets see if it fares better than Live4Windows.
lately, MS is playing catch up with google...
It will still be out years before "Home" is completed. You know you want to hit that disagree button. You would think Sony would pump more time and efforts into getting you games instead of delayed junk. Enjoy your stupid cyber world and blu-ray player. I'm going to play some games on my "3FixMe"
Delaystation 3 - Wait B3yond....
i need to get my special ops badge on warhawk. One knife kill one Sniper kill and one airstrike kill without dying..I also need to pblow up the grounded blackhawk in GRAW...what to do what to do
