Narrowing down the list to just 10 was difficult but all of these games struck raw nerves in people the world over.
I really wanted to see Six Days in Fallujah, I just hope another developer has the balls to pick it up. I think its bullshit that the media allows plenty of movies to be made that are based on traumatic events, but not video games. To the mainstream media, video games are still toys for kids and it really agitates me. I bet you not a single news program has ever heard of Shadow of the Colossus, Socom, or Metal Gear. Those are shining examples that prove video games are not only for little kids.
RE5 and MW2 tie for #1 the controversy exceded the gaming world for those games , especially MW2. honourable mention imo has to be L4D
I can't remember, but what controversy surrounded L4D?
Zombie rights activists
L4D2 people accused it of racism
Oh yeah... thanks.
Pretty good list
Yeah but bulletstorm should have been up there though
Resi 5's 'controversy' fucked up the game imo. It just didn't need no co-op crap. Looked a fricken top-game with chris on his todd. Most hilarious part of Resi 5. Sheva talking about her parents on the Air Boat. Chris just looks like he doesn't give a shit, and LOL, neither did I. Sheva Alomar. Most unecessary character i've seen.
RE5, most unnecessary game I've ever played.
I have to agree with Quagmire. Good game, but crappy storyline...
For me, the most controversial game for this generation is Final Fantasy XIII, when that stupid Yoichi Wada announced that game will be release as multiplatform LOL. I don't know why but I was shocked when SE released a Special edition of FFXIII for 360 only. But hey didn't release it on PS3, that's another question "WHY is that?". Is there any problem between SONY and SE, do they have a problem or conflict?. For those of you who don't know yet, SONY is the main share holder of SE, they owns 30% of SE, that makes me wonder, Why is that, that SE is treating sony ps3 like this?? What if one day SONY sell their stocks at SE??.. I think there will be 3 scenario: 1. SE will have no choice but to approach sony, and address a Apology LOLOL 2. MS would buy the stocks that sony left. 3. The worst will be happen that Tetsuya nomura will resign on SE, and if that happens, charisma of FF series will be gone 4ever. Though it's true that Nomura is a sony fanboy, that's for sure
The Resident Evil 5 and Six Days in Fallujah controversies were freaking stupid. The Resident Evil 5 controversy in a nutshell - "Dark skinned people in Africa?! Tribal people in certain areas in Africa?! RAAAAACIIIIISSSST!!" And you may argue that Six Days in Fallujah was "too soon", but with all of the WWII games, what's the difference? Are there no WWII veterans? Besides, the developers were dedicated to making the game tasteful, accurate, and condemning activities such as killing civilians; that's a lot more than a lot of WWII games did.
Surprised Yakuza 3 didn't make the list, it was a great game, but about 70% of marketing came from the Controversy that surrounded the title
