PSX Extreme: SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Review

PSX Extreme writes: "Admittedly, I have never been a SOCOM fan, primarily because I’ve never been an avid online player. But I was excited to give SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs a try, primarily because it featured a full single-player campaign, one that even sports a bit of stealth. Of course, the game is still designed with multiplayer as the focus and for that reason, this game is best experienced with others; just make sure you have a headset so as to take advantage of the inherent strategy and tactics. On the one hand, the campaign doesn’t feel tacked on and the multiplayer is oodles of fun. On the other hand, the poor AI, iffy control in regards to commands, and uninspired level design drops the production down a few notches".

This is so depressing... :(

It's crazy how some of these Socom reviews contradict each other. Here's another one that mentions poor AI. G4TV's review said it was some of the best AI they'd ever seen. This generation has been really weird, journalism wise. Oh well, my favorite online shooter by far of this generation has been MAG, made by these same people, and it certainly didn't get glowing reviews. The videos I've seen for Socom 4 and the fun I had with the beta are enough for me to be still excited.

Socom is all about the MP, the game shouldnt be reviewed with the SP in mind, the SP is only a small bonus, 99%of the reviews simply talk about the SP, while they skip the MP part since the real players arent playing the game yet, being stuck with noobish reviewers online would suck i guess.

cant wait to play with REAL players.

I agree, the recent Call of Duty campaigns have been skimpy, nonsensical, and filled in with explosions. No one is expecting the large majority of their enjoyment to come out of the campaign, but the multiplayer instead. I'm looking forward to the story mode, but I think many reviewers may be forgetting that SOCOM 4 is above anything a multiplayer game, so docking so many points over a single-player mode that they didn't like is going too far.

Socom is arguably Sony's Halo at least in the fanbase department. It has a huge following. It's surprising not seeing Sony putting more effort in this game. The amount of lag and horrible hit detection in the first few SOCOMS was notorious. The "pros" used these flaws to their advantage, like hiding inside boulders being able to shoot but not being able to get hit. Sony missed a giant opportunity on making SOCOM a next gen giant.

Well, you sure don't know anything about the Playstation 2 Socoms, thanks for clearing that up.
