MAG has quietly kept a amazing reputation by being a well supported PS3 game and a fun tactical shooter that makes PS3 owners happy. So how much better can this get? Well how about MAG for under $15 New!
The only people who think MAG is a dead community are those who aren't willing to try it themselves.
Yup the COD lemmings afraid to step out of the box. They are missing out.
mag is a good game and i played it for hundreds of hours my self but 2 things killed it for me first of all the HUUUUUUUGE updates like in gigs sometimes and 2 not enough players after 1 or 2 months and now i dont feel like playing it because i know there is almost no one is playing it i hate to say it but this is the truth
I played today for the first time in like 2 months and I had no problem getting into any games. It seemed like there were more people playing now than when I left.
@ above last time i played there was like a 100 players on each mod and alot of them on that DLC when it first came out i haven't played it in a long time so i dont know maybe this game is more popular in the US i dont know maybe its a time line issue since im on the other side of the world and when you guys are playing i'll be sleeping lol
"MAG has quietly kept a amazing reputation by being a well supported PS3 game and a fun tactical shooter that makes PS3 owners happy."
I can't get into 256 matches.
You gotta be honest though, there are so many TEAMKILLERS
No there aren't. If your stupid enough to walk in front of someone firing a gun the you deserve to die.
I never once found team killing to be a problem. And I put like 150 hours into the game.
vote kickers, not tks
I dont understand why people shoot in a straight line at the spawn point INSIDE a building
Only teamkillers are the people who want all the glory and out of all the times I have seen TKers around after the 2-3rd time they TK for the capture pts almost everyone votes them out.
people are usually more interested in kicking out the squad leader so they have a chance at being it rather than deal with teamkillers...
I just got this game a little while ago. What faction is for noobies again?
SVER is probably the most over-powered at this point, but that's viable to change because I just switched to VALOR ;)
lol so stay clear of SVER until I get more experience, got it.
Don't go to Valor, whatever you do. They are horrible. Ill always have a soft spot for them in my heart but that faction lacks brains
USA! USA! USA! Just joined Valor. :P
SVER is not overpowered, they are the best because they use teamwork the most. I hated people complaining about SVER all the time, saying they have unfair advantages(which they dont). I`ve maxed out every PMC and if anything SVER has the disadvantage, there maps are really easy to attack, i could pretty much get through the entire SVER defensive line single handedly nearly every game, it really made me wonder how when i was SVER we could hold the 1st defensive position for the entire game and rarely ever lose a defence game. If you look at all the videos of big team get togethers there always SVER. Sorry for the rant but i really really hate the people who just complain about SVER endlessly and have never actually played as them because they hold such a grudge against them. @Pixel, probably Valor because they have the best weapons by far and the easiest maps to defend yet they lose all the time. When i left SVER i had about 150wins & 5losses then when i left Valor i had about 170wins & 100losses lol
@agentace SVER was really overpowered at first. the maps where the main reason for this. now with maps being neutral it no longer matters. their weapons where also, and still are overpowered. SVER weapons are meant to be more powerful but less accurate than the other factions. though with your stats up and handles attached, them being less accurate mean a lot less. the other 2 factions can't do anything to make their guns more powerful. also the scopes for SVER are much better. they allow you to see a lot more of your surroundings, instead of focusing on just the 1 or 2 you can see with other factions scopes. all that said, thats not even the biggest reason why SVER was/is thought to be over powered. early on when there was a clear advatage for SVER, a lot of the better players moved to SVER for the advantages. yes the better players used better team work, so on one hand you are correct. i don't think SVER is as overpowered now. a lot of people use other factions because of the maps being neutral, and what advantage the SVER weapons have can be overcome with good play and teamwork.
SVER is way over powered, and their maps give them a huge advantage. I like Valor, overpowered but when I play with my clan we rarely lose
Domination is kinda dead, it takes me forever to get one game going. All the other modes I can get in quick.
I would buy MAG if it didn't cost 69,99 euros here in Finland at my local Gamestop. Thank god it's finally available on PSN I just have to get some more money to put on my account.
MAG is awesome, gotta start playing it again.
MAG isnt dead but only a few thousand play it still.
As long as there are 1000 regulars it wont die. That or the servers close.
Zipper doesnt close servers. Im pretty sure the Socom 1 servers are still up. I could be wrong tho.
the Europe servers have been closed. US is where the only active MAG servers are right now. lag has killed a lot of games for me.
My only complaint in this game is that there are only three maps for each game mode.
If there is a MAG 2, that is something that needs to change.
Same as. Doesn't help that the smaller maps are sectioned off parts of the domination maps. I would pay €15 for more domination and acquisition maps. Better than shitty cod maps. MAG 2 is what I want. I hope it's zippers next project.
Yea MAG was a great idea and there should be more games like it. If they keep making games like this more games should follow its path and there could be epic games in the future.
i'd rather wait for the next gen for another MAG. the more powerful tech could really help with making the game that much better.
Not like we can't have another mag next gen aswell as this gen.
at least the maps are well designed Ccreating huge maps like that is way harder to balance than the smallers map others shooters got but a big dlc for more map is something everyone would be happy to have
At least they updated it so you are not always defending one map and attacking the other 2. You will have to attack and defend each map.
I played it, and I didn't like it. So I am now looking for a new multiplayer game to play.
Loved this game, played it for 250+ hours and enjoyed it's MP far more than CoD or any other online shooters. The only thing I could see stopping people is that it isn't a "huge" name like CoD/KZ, graphics are simply decent, and at first the controls feel clunky(since there isn't much aim assist). Only reason I stopped playing is because after 250+ hours(Plat'ed it) I felt like it was time to play other games. Sony has been pushing it with offeres also, there is a demo for it, and Plus members have essentially an infinite game trial(level cap).
Agreed, I put 150 hours into it and got fairly close to the platinum, but had to give it up because of other games that came out. The game has a really strong community, and getting in a game where people actually work together is extremely fun.
and since the socom 4 beta it has gotten better for some reason. Valor is a little better than last month. sweet
Games don't go down to $15 so soon for a reason.
So soon? The game has been out for over year. There's games that drop to $20 after only a couple of months.
MAG is not dead. The game is purely dedicated for those who want to play with Clans, Tactics or Team gameplay. If you plan to get this game, you need a Mic, a Clan with active members with a Mic, and you will see how fun the game is.
That is still too much money for this game. No offline mode whatsoever, so few maps, overpowered factions that make the game uneven. Nobody uses headsets to communicate ect....
There are 15 total maps(or 18 with suppression), most of which are large enough that they stay fresh. Offline mode wouldn't make sense. Nobody uses headsets? The majority of people use them, and it is probably the best game to play on the ps3 if you want teamwork and to work together with people with Mics(like Socom). Overpowered Factions? I agree that for a long time Sver was OP, not because of their maps or weapons but because of the strong clan/player base established there. Recently they realized they needed to break up to make the game last longer however. Maybe you should stop trying to be a troll so no reason and actually contribute something worth while next time. MAG is well worth $15 and even now with the reduced amount of players you can easily play this until the end of summer and not need another game.
I'm not a troll, I bought the game new when it came out. I had really high expectations. It's like on this site you cant say anything PS3 related is bad without getting called a troll. The game was average at best and with much, much better FPS games on the market it just isn't going to last like some of the other games with more to offer. How would an offline campaign not make sense? Just curious? I mean they could of thought of something that makes the game worthwhile. The game is not THAT old and it has an established group of people playing it, there is no incentive to play it, no campaign to figure the weapons ect... Also, flipping maps around doesn't count as two maps, just FYI. As for headsets, let's be honest. I have never found a game on PS3 that people actually use headsets as the norm. I think I ran into around five people who actually talked in game when I was first playing this game.
I am not flipping maps around... 3 maps each for Domination, Sabotage, Aquistion, Escalation, Interdiction. For a total of 15. Then add in Suppression maps and it is 18. A single player campaign wouldn't make sense since the game is built around 3 PMC's fighting over contracts. A single player mode would be boring quite frankly, and would detract from the good MP. The MP does has an incentive to play, you level up your character to gain skills(you can "prestige" if you want but it only adds a little bit of extra exp, or changing factions), earn CP(essentially cash) to purchase weapons, armor, upgrades, etc. You are in a clan and can launch massive clan wars (128 vs 128) and your faction fights to over contracts to gain bonuses. So the better you do to win each match the better overall your faction will be. And again you say people don't use headsets, but if you actually played the game then you will see that over 50% of people use them(general random people) and then in clans/groups everyone uses them.
Stop trolling and go play some Xbox360. Everything it gives, you love it dearly. Everything the PS3 gives, it's 'meh' to you. Out.
I don't love everything 360 and hate everything PS3. I have played the game and I've played many PS3 games, I just am not enamored by them like the common person looking at shiny objects is. MAG got average reviews, I bought it a week after it's release and traded it back in a week later. To me, a new game should have at least a hundred thousand on it while it is new, because the number is just going to get lower unless it's like a COD game. The fact that so few people remain proved I was right in guessing that the game wouldn't last very long. I know there are some faithful members that still play it, but 1k isn't anything to be excited about. I only played Domination as it's the only game mode that was really done correctly, so 3 maps is what I got. As for the campaign mode, give me a break. They could have easily come up with something interesting, Alien V Predator had 3 teams and you just got to do 3 different campaigns, it seems you are just making excuses for a Sony game. I sometimes am taken aback by the hypocrisy here, I bet you were one of the people complaining about the length of the COD and Homefront campaigns but have no issue with Sony games that charge full price and offer NO CAMPAIGN. Socom Confrontation, MAG and Warhawk are all huge ripoffs, even if you paid $5 for them.
Its pretty much counter strike on ps3, the truly hardcore are the only ones faithful.
A similar game of Counter Strike on PS3, it is Modern Combat Domination. How can you say it is similar to MAG when it is not.
i ment player wise, theres a loyal following like CS that still play it.
mag was ruined for me by all the updates
yes damn them and there ongoing support.
im not talking about support. im talking about how mag was morphed into a different game over the updates when it was fine at first without the skill tree that was really just the original layout/system just chopped to pieces to give a perception of added depth and perk system. i should feel stupid for responding to you considering your avatar since it sums up what footing you're on
I suspect you would feel more stupid not making yourself clear in the first place but if you can make assumptions about what i would say because of a small picture next too my name its to be expected you would make a stupid comment in the first place.I could maybe understand if it where an avatar that said MAG4LIFE or something else but its a ps3.Maybe think before typing next time and you may find ppl respond to you better. P.S i know you have no bubbles left but dont bother pming me your qq because i wont read it anyway.
maybe because this game is mediocre...
I was waiting to get this cheap at some point, but I didn't expect to catch it this cheap. Glad I waited!
it's probably the only game whose multiplayer I don't quit playing after 5 minutes into the game due to the utter uselessness of your team-mates and I haven't played it in ages so maybe things changed.
As it is right now. This game has MUCH LAG. I've been playing it for about 150 hours over the last two months. If you goto the MAG forum. You can see everyone has been talking about it as well. So just be aware if you buy it and go in to play. I love it, built a Valor level 70 player and now also have a Raven level 53 player. I'll be doing a SVER next too.
I've been playing MAG a lot recently, and it certainly isn't dead. In fact, there were around 2,500 people playing Domination yesterday. It's a game which hasn't been matched in my books. I hate Call of Duty, and I don't really play online First Person Shooters much, but I find MAG extremely fun to play, and rewarding too. I think it could be much more active without the open beta before release. People played it, decided they didn't like it and so they didn't buy it. The reason they didn't like it was because of the lag and all the bugs in the beta, but that was a beta, and people should never judge a game by its beta. Unfortunately, Zipper have now released an open beta for SOCOM 4, and I fear it will suffer the same fate after hearing several forum discussions about it. As far as first person shooters go, nothing is like MAG. In other games it feels like you're a one-man-army, but in MAG you can't just run into the middle of the battlefield and expect to come out alive.
There was about 200 people playing it when i went on it on friday. I'm in the UK though so maybe its more popular in the USA but i can never get into a 256 player domination game.
I'm from the UK too actually. I was playing at around 7pm-9pm and there was a +256% exp bonus on the mode (I'm not sure why, but that might have influenced some people).
