Battlefield 3 and Compromising for Consoles

Sinan Kubba writes, "Bach has been clear and forthright about DICE leading development on PC for Battlefield 3. He openly describes the consoles as being far too old compared to what the team can achieve on PC, and has even said that to not lead on PC at this stage of the console cycle is just "sad". When I asked him about whether or not there are risks to leading on PC when the console audience is so much larger, he said, quite frankly, that this wasn’t a concern for his team but for the people who sell the game – EA. As far as DICE is concerned, if they make a good game then EA can and will sell it, no matter the risks."

Can't go a day without 10 articles of DICE bashing consoles.

xc7x2800d ago

likely why the game won't outsell a COD game i.m.o.,they continue to put feet in their mouth.

Convas2800d ago

Yeah, I grow tired of it. They keep saying, "We better than COD! We'll deliver a better experience that COD on consoles and on PC!"

But then they keep saying, "Consoles sucks! We're juicing them for REALZ! OMG, PC is so much more capable!"

They're doing the same thing Crytek did when they first started hyping Crysis 2.

But Crytek gimped the PC on Day 1.

I do not think they said PC was the lead plat...??

STONEY42800d ago

This isn't going to be anything like COD. It's going to be like Battlefield 2. Which was one of the best multiplayer games ever made.

The big hit the consoles will take is the 24 player count compared to the PCs 64. Both Bad Company games played fine because the gameplay and maps centered around the small player count, but 64 players was a HUGE difference when it came to BF2 and was definitely the way it was meant to be played.

The 10 articles are usually based on one comment made well over a week ago.

Very true. Besides, I don't think it is "bashing consoles" to simply tell the truth. If people would actually pay attention to what they say it's clear that Dice believe that they are making an outstanding product for consoles too.

SixTwoTwo2800d ago

Exactly. Some of these websites like to take one interview, chop it up into little pieces, and make a dozen sensationalist articles out of it. Lameness to the nth degree.

i_like_ff72800d ago

Who the hell is bashing consoles? They can't make it on the console and they told the press.

The press keeps putting these articles out not DICE dumbass. Don't read it then.

Dart892800d ago

Plz just worry about the game instead of bashing consoles.

This game on consoles will be just a hyped up BC2. There is no way I am getting this game for my PS3 or 360 even it was sitting in the shovel ware bin for 2 bucks. The day I get a nice PC then I might pick it up.

Just with BC2 was a bloody disgrace for any BF fan this game is a slap in the face to any console BC2 lover. They are trying to cash in o BC2 enormous success on consoles by porting this one to the PS3 and 360 and hoping that gamers are dumb enough to fall for that.

EA have just lost their way as quickly as they gained it back. 2008-2009 was a light at the end of the tunnel but then everything went back to the old ways. ME2 was very good but a shadow of it's former self, Dead Space 2 disappointed me, DA2 turned out to be complete garbage not worthy of the DA name, and now console gamers are getting half baked version of game that has no business on consoles in the first place.

Maybe if they didn't invest so much on the console development then they could have had enough people to do a sequel to Mirror's Edge but making more games with guns that go "pew, pew" is more important.

This obsession EA and DICE has with CoD is unhealthy and is going to back fire on them.
