The Nintendo Game Drought Means One Thing: Get Ready for Wii 2

Kotaku - Drew Cohen — You're feeling it, we're feeling it: there appears to be a veritable drought of 1st-party Nintendo titles this spring. None, to be exact.

Sure, Nintendo launched a brand new console a mere two weeks ago. But one can't help but gawp at what is most certainly the largest scarcity of titles to come—or more accurately, not come—from the company in a long while.

The story is too old to be commented.

I believe it about time Wii 2 got announced, out of all the consoles Nintendo Wii is in dying need of the Successor.

SpaceSquirrel2694d ago

I hope Nintendo will announce it at E3

Before skyward sword comes out? Doubtful

Parapraxis2694d ago

Didn't Zelda Twilight Princess come out on the Wii and it's successor the Gamecube?
I'm not sure why you are doubtful.

Woah...woah. Thats take a breather for a second. I want to see a Wii sucessor as well. Yet we all know Nintendo has held off Wii related news due to the very recent launch of the 3DS. They're giving the handheld 3 months of breathing room(March-June), and its back to console business as usual :P

I "hope" a Wii sucessor is revealed, but honestly I'm more concerned about upcoming 3DS titles and Wii rpg localizations(T.LastStory, Xenoblades, Earth Seeker, Pandora's Tower)

Basically what Nugen said.

Smacktard2694d ago

We get this "drought" every year before E3.

iNFAMOUZ12694d ago

not true, we get the drought after e3 for like 2 or 3 months

Nugan2693d ago

Actually, Nintendo usually has at least one big July/August release.

The drought is usually around January - March, with titles coming out in May, June, July, and/or August, then a break until October or November.

But the early drought this year was worse than usual, without even minor first party releases, aside from Mario Sports Mix. I think this may have more to do with 3DS promotion than the Wii's successor though.

More like, we get this drought from Nintendo every year, lol.

So will it be "Super Wii" or "Gamecube cubed"?
Or maybe "Wii-D"? "Wii Advance"? "Wii SP"? "Wii XL"? "Wii color"? lol

ChickeyCantor2693d ago

They shall call it:

goodfellajay2694d ago

badz1492693d ago

SWA. sounds so wrong in so many ways lol!

Valay2694d ago

I'd be more surprised if they announced the console at E3 than if they didn't.

White-Sharingan2694d ago

Great :\ I payed $250 for a console I barely used and its cycle is over, thanks Nintendo.

There have been some quality games released on the Wii. If you own one surely there were some titles worth playing.

Yes the majority have been long running IPs and there was not much in terms of NEW high quality titles, but there was still plenty to play.

That being said, I feel this gen has been a 2 horse race.

That being said.
Serious gamers have been divided between 360, PS3 and PC. The next Nintendo console needs to seriously step up the hardware specs and online components.
This is the reason I never bought the Wii.
So-so motion controls, with rehashed titles on an outdated console in regards to graphics and online just didn't fit the bill for me.

You only have yourself to blame for falling into the hype when in reality it was a PS2 with a waggle wand.
And by PS2 I mean in terms of console power. I said from day 1 that the wii was just a Gamecube with a new dress on. Wiicube.

On topic, I do not see how Nintendo can improve on what Sony has done with motion control. The fact that the camera sees the controller is a huge advantage over the camera inside the controller itself as the Wii is. Move does not lose where it is whereas Wii does this quite a bit when you point it away from the sensor bar.

I also said many times that $250 for a Wii with a waggle wand and a slightly faster CPU was a ripoff. I got ridiculed constantly on sites like Joystiq and here...yet now it is obvious that I was right.

If you disagree with me fine....curious as to your explanation.

gypsygib2693d ago

You don't see how one company can improve on another companies tech....

You must be short sighted.

Off the top of my head, a Move-like Wand with higher res/FPS Kinect-like Camera and motion controled nav controller.

ChickeyCantor2693d ago (Edited 2693d ago )

" it was a PS2 with a waggle wand.
And by PS2 I mean in terms of console power"

Gamecube performed better than PS2...
> RE:4

Your argument is invalid.

White-Sharingan2693d ago

I bought the console the day it came out, so I had zero idea on how it would be, it was a gamble, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Did the same thing with the DS and it payed of great, so many great titles, too many in fact, but the wii was the other way around. It has its titles, but not enough to warrant the purchase IMO. I took the gamble and it didn't pay off, it isn't the end of the world, we'll see what they aim for next. I'll probably wait till I purchase their next console though.
