KINECT: Where Are The Games?

KINECT was released in Australia in November 2010, but since then software releases for the Xbox add on have been few and far between. Aside from Dance Central and possibly Kinect Adventures!, is there any real reason for gamers to get moving with KINECT?

Not coming - because it fails as a game controller except for EyeToy copies. Very enjoyable mini-games - like EyeToy - but don't expect Move type games anytime soon.

slate912631d ago

Unfortunately for you, I can give you 5 hardcore games announced for it. Im not going to list them off for your, go use google like a big boy.

DrHouse2631d ago

I could care less about any hardcore titles for kinect, I prefer a gamepad anyday. But the titles do exist and the community on here will do anything to keep them form getting popularity. btk above you is a good example

KingME2631d ago

Oh the irony, funny how the PS3 faith provides no patience for Kinect games, yet they waited 4 years for GT5 and 3 Years for GOW3.

Kinect has been out for about 6 months and it's a failure because it has not "HARDCORE" games.

Why do I have a strange feeling that had Kinect been Sony's choice, they would feel a little different?

Too Funny.

Nitrowolf22631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

@KINGME
last i Remember Kinect was only for 360. I mean this should be a concern for those who bought Kinect. So i really don't see the point in bringing that up.

Anyway, i can somewhat say the same thing for MOVE. YES I KNOW there are games like KZ3 and Socom 4 that support move, but i am waiting for a game that actually forces me to use Move for it. Sounds strange i know, but the way i see it Both KINECT and MOVE don't have any real Exclusive (No standard controller option) coming for a while.

Launching these two motion controller is like launching a new system. Now of course ignoring the obvious with that statement there, i am talking about software in general. Most times new console start out with a slow lineup. Give it a 1-2 years before we start seeing massive support and games coming out every month for each controller.

Dude if Kinect was for PS3 i would still not want to get it because of the line up ( if it was like MS). It's the same reason why i didn't buy the Eye Toy when it came out on PS2 and then on PS3. Kinect, IMO, is actually quite a powerful camera that is capable of many things.

callahan092631d ago

I just want to respond to KingME:

You think it's hypocritical for PS3 fans to criticize Kinect for not having any hardcore games after 6 months because "they waited 4 years for GT5 and 3 Years for GOW3"? Really? So I guess Resistance Fall of Man wasn't a hardcore PS3 game on day one. And then there's the multitude of other core games for PS3 that came out prior to 2010 when GOW3 and GT5 came out.

YourCall2631d ago

@callahan What?

One thing Kingme said was 100% correct is, that if Kinect was a Sony baby you guys would love it and defend it to the end.

Let me get this straight, Kinect fails as a game controller, yet its fundamental principal was derived from the Eyetoy...Yet kinect Fails and Eyetoy doesn't?

Interesting....

Christopher2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

EyeToy, for me, fails for the same reasons Kinect does. Neither have yet to show gaming potential that I would be interested in playing over your standard controller-based game. I've tried a few EyeToy only games and the only thing they were good for were keeping my nephews distracted for a little while before they started asking me to play a Lego game :p

Now, if Microsoft starts combining Kinect + Controller, with the former being an enhancement over standard gameplay? Then you might get me interested in it depending on how they get it to work.

Until then, I'll keep looking for the games Microsoft has been talking about and waiting for the Move controller to get a much better lineup of games other than FPSes.

BlackTar1872631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

who ever said the Eye toy isn't fail?

I can't remeber every reading anyone say that eye toy was awesome or anything like that just that kinect is getting by on games that are possible on the eyetoy

Perjoss2631d ago

what most people fail to realize is that Kinect does not have to be the primary controller when playing a game,

hint: you can still hold (and use) a controller while standing in front of a Kinect. Can be used for head tracking, voice commands as well as leaning from side to side to peek around corners in an FPS. Just a few ideas and I'm not even a game designer. So be patient :)

PirateThom2631d ago

But the whole thing has been marketed as "You are the controller".

If they add a controller and only use it for those simple tracking, they already had a camera on 360 that could have done it, the Vision Cam. Headtracking and leaning doesn't require Kinect and voice commands could be achieved with the mic that comes with the console making the whole device an expensive waste. If they don't add a controller of some sort, it's going to limit what it can do.

KingME2631d ago

@Pirate Thong, way to over simplify it.

Okay first Kinect was simply an Eyetoy, now it's equal to the 360 vision cam.

Okay, I guess you would also agree that Move is nothing more than the wiimote's uglier cousin that required the PS Eye in order to work properly. Basically saying, that if you want motion controls don't buy Move, just buy a wii.

You have alway been one of the biggest TROLLS on this site. Possible the worst of them all, you definitely get my vote.

oohWii2631d ago

I'd have to agree with you there Kingme, add my vote also.

PirateThom2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

Way to go KingMe, bring up Move when no one was talking about Move, who's trolling now?

I'm making points in response to a comment, you're rambling on about god knows what. Kinect is capable of more, but if you use it for the things mentioned above it might as well not exist because any camera and mic can do headtracking, leaning and voice commands. If you find these facts so annoying, I must be doing something right.

Nice try though, I dare you to pick out trolling in that comment. In fact, I'd say you're the one trolling here simply because you couldn't have a logical rebuttal, you brought up a completely unrelated product and, as such, I have reported you for trolling.

Fallouts2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

i agree with king me too!

i remember when the ps3 launched and it was marketed mostly as a blu ray player..

good thing sony doesnt have your mentality, pirate.. im happy for a thing called "marketing change" you know kinda like what sony did with "it only does everything"..

i cant wait for a kinect and controler games. all i want is simple things like reach out to open a door, give a voice cammand etc..

edit...

ill pick out that troll comment

"Kinect is capable of more, but if you use it for the things mentioned above it might as well not exist because any camera and mic can do headtracking, leaning and voice commands. If you find these facts so annoying, I must be doing something right."

lmfao! trying to sound humble with the "kinect can do more" then ruin it with the rest of your comment. i mean really? any camera can do head tracking in 360 and ps3 games now? any? and voice comand? where the hell have i been?!!!

edit @gaden

figures you ppl have the memory span of a fish..

gaden_malak2631d ago

"i remember when the ps3 launched and it was marketed mostly as a blu ray player.. "

Lol what?

BlackTar1872631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

gaden is right the 360 crowd marketed as only a blu ray player. Im pretty sure i remember sony saying it was a all in one home entertainment unit.

You guys hear and remember what you want just like everyone else.

and king me you didn't even really argue his point. you just brought up something else entirely while really avoiding answering his question out right. Is he right? can a normal camera do head tracking with the right SW.. I think yes can it do leaning i think yes and a mic pick up voice commands i think yes. So you really didn't disprove anything he said you went around it trying to discredit him.

the thing was sold as you are the controller if the only HC games that come out require a controller from the get basically then i agree that it is kinda stupid to move forward with that as your catch line. When you never were able to product it for the HC.

PirateThom2631d ago

Fallouts - GT5 on PS3 can do headtracking with the PS Eye, enough for leaning and what not anyway.

There's a game on Dreamcast called "Seaman" which was built around voice commands, see also "Hey You! Pikachu!" on N64. SOCOM single player on PS2 allowed you to issue commands to your squad both as a menu and with voice commands. And, you can even try EndWar on 360.

Remember, this is all software, not hardware. As long as you have a camera and a mic, you can impliment these via software.

Kinect can do these, don't get me wrong, but it's a bit of a waste if that's all it is used for because it can do more, but it's implimentation that is the issue.

So, you know, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

candystop2631d ago

"But the whole thing has been marketed as "You are the controller"."

That's not the whole truth. It has always been about hands free and eventually hybrid gaming. Last E3 Sony took the no buttons jab and people ran with it.

TotalPS3Fanboy2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

"what most people fail to realize is that Kinect does not have to be the primary controller when playing a game,

hint: you can still hold (and use) a controller while standing in front of a Kinect."

In other word, Playstation Move. Go buy Playstation Move.

YourCall2631d ago

I agree with Kingme Also, Pirate Thom is always trolling. Especially Kinect articles.

Troll, Hater, whatever.

PirateThom2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

candystop - That's a direct quote from Microsoft and they even have an ad called "You are the controller".

So, a bit of time has passed and STILL not a single meaningful response to my comment.

It's easy to call someone a troll, it's harder to find a reasoning, eh?

candystop2631d ago

@Pirate Thom:
It's not all about software. Think of Kinect like it's consoles. Every generation they get stronger and more capable of handling software that wasn't possible years ago because of limitations. Other devices could do the same thing but now with Kinect it just does it all ten times better. Really it's up to developers to create software that takes full advantage of the device. Hopefully we see some stuff that takes advantage of it soon but until then I wouldn't worry.

jimbone792631d ago

@ Pirate
Once again, for like the 10th time, MS said FROM THE VERY BEGINNING that they would have 3 different types of game. They said they would have traditional (controller), Hybrid (controller and Kinect), and Kinect only (you are the controller) games. Here you go

http://electronictheatre.co...

This article is from 2009, before it was even Kinect. It was still Natal. Now when they do have hybrid games is that going to change the “you are the controller” games? Nope. Will you and everyone else please stop with that truly PATHETIC argument? Please? They have said FROM THE VERY BEGINNING that they would have all 3 types of games, so please just stop with that same old, very annoying argument. You and everyone else who say it are dead wrong. Just stop, there are plenty of other ways you can bash it, but the “but, but ,but they said you are the controller” argument doesn’t work and never has.

Maybe MS will show some off at E3.

Godmars2902631d ago

Pretty sure that if they don't, if they only show more than concept trailers especially for the titles announced last year, they're hash is fried.

Neko_Mega2631d ago

Should be more of the lines "Where are the Kinect games Microsoft shown at E3?".

At least that is what I'm thinking.

waltyftm2631d ago

But you are the controller.
