Disappointing: New Wii SKU Is Just Like Old Wii SKU

Wired went and found out what the deal was with Nintendo's "new" Wii. You can return to normal breathing patterns, fanboys, the only thing that's different between the new and the old box is that the "new" one comes with the Wii Remote safety jacket. Which for some reason Luke at Kotaku just cannot look at without thinking of Jim Brown's rad Egyptian headdress in Mars Attacks.

Were Nintendo advertising the fact that it was a new sku or something? Otherwise, I don't see why this is really that disappointing. I wasn't expecting anything new.

No one was. In fact, when news of the new SKU came, I didn't even so much as see an H or a D mentioned after "Wii" at all.

Some people thought there would be new colors. Some thought it would include the zapper. Some even saw the comming of a slightly redesigned Wii that happens in the natural progression of a generation. Heck, some people even nailed the jacket.

To my knowledge, Nintendo never made a big deal about it, and all Wii fans I know were grounded enough not to expect anything life altering.

I won't be surprised if Nintendo actually has a shortage on wiimote jackets. It's amazing how all three systems in this generation have problems. Some problems dumber than others, but they still are problems.

Wii is boring, i beat Zelda 5 times ,Mario 3 time, Metroid3 2 times, rayman rabbits 1 time and Trauma Center 4 times. I'm Sick and tired of the controller with the lack of good games. I don't know what it is Halo and Warhawk are great and i have more fun playing those game then replaying the old $hit Nintendo keep putting out. I wait for months before a new good Wii game comes out.(can't wait for SMBB) I found my self playing the VC more then the Wii actual games.... is there something wrong with me or does anybody else out there that feels the same, that the Wii was a big waste of money.

I still don't understand how it is that the wii has no good games, when you yourself have played several games more than once? I don't know about you, but if a game is not good, I just won't play it at all. But that is just me.

I am glad that I have a PC to play all the FPS that will never see action on the wii so I don't have to waste money on another console, not to mention that I have full access to on-line multiplayer action without having to pay extra for the service, how cool is that?

Also, if you are so bored and have so much time to kill, why not get a hobby, or a job?

I would call it a gimmick if I had to pay for it (which I wouldn't), but since it is free, "gravy" would be a better word for describing it. If you don't want one, then don't get one right?

Also let's not forget that the only reason Nintendo is doing this is because there are too many people out there who are using the wiimote incorrectly and throwing it at their tvs. It is not a design flaw, it is a people flaw. RRoD, now that IS a design flaw...

Personally I don't like the jacket (I admit, I didn't try it), I don't like the strap neither. Is it meant to make the controller bigger or something? Wii is not that dangerous, unless you want to harm small animals... How stupid you have to be to trow the controller at your TV?

I also don't see how can they improve the current SKU... Make it smaller? Then release a Wii-jacket so kids won't swallow it and a strap to tie it to the TV so the vacuum cleaner will not suck it (Wii is really dangerous peace of equipment) Make it cheaper? It uses old technology, it is cheap, just drop the price - now new SKU needed.

Only form of change could be new colors, other shape, etc. Still all the same console. Why bother?

btw, remove all controller jackets and straps, just let the stupidity resolve itself... Warnings like: do not operate while intoxicated (may lead to serious injuries and even death), do not trow at the TV or friends, do not swallow, do not put in the microwave are just waste of time.
