PSP Slim Storms Japan, Wii Sales Drop in September

The PSP actually sold more than three times as much as the Wii in Japan during September as the new slim model and software like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII drove sales. The Wii meanwhile saw a dip in sales, although Wii Sports did pass the 2 million units milestone.

People are finally catching on to what kind of hi-tech products Sony has. The japanese now know that the Playstation brand is for the versatile gamer who needs their casual and hardcore fix. All of that is available on playstation.

I'm just proving you bots wrong. Sony is the worldwide leader in electronix....PERIOD

@ Nasim

You sure 360 only sold 3k last week? In japan, 360 is averaging about 500-1,200 consoles a month. Pretty terrible if you ask me

beyond what?
please tell me =/ because all i see is you guys using phrases, but i bet you dont even know what its about.

Marceles6036d ago

PSP's catch phrase is "Get Your Own."

Back on topic, a string of really good PSP games are coming out in the US and Japan (Syphon Filter, FF Tactics, Gundam..the japanese love it, FF Crisis Core, etc.). I'm not really surprised it's #1 again, but only surprised because I'm used to seeing the Wii and DS have combined sales of over 200,000 units every week. Hopefully I'll see alot more of this in later weeks.

okcomputer6036d ago

Using corporate phrases like that is so lame. I love my ps3 and 360 but if you ever see me reaching the fanboy low of saying "play beyond" or "jump in" shoot me pls.

nasim6036d ago (Edited 6036d ago )

x360 sales plummetted to 3000 units

lol

MS give up . JAPAN and now EU are just gone for you

:)

@BOT below

no one buys HALO 3 in JAPAN . this is why HALO 3 has dropped out of the top charts in JAPAN . x360 sold just 3k hardwares last week

:)

what a mindless BOT

x360 is dead in both JAPAN and EU

Maybe a little game like HALO 3 has a lot to do with it as well... Japanese gamers are snapping this up in droves.

Snatching up all 10 copies shipped to Japan, selling out on day two.

gerrard6036d ago (Edited 6036d ago )

The same will happen to PS3 when they release FF13

ChickeyCantor6036d ago

@marceles
LMAO thats not what i meant, you guys keep yelling play beyond, beyond what? because for what we have seen now....nothing special.

darthv726036d ago

It is selling not because people are "catching on" to it. It is selling because practically everybody in that country has purchased a DS and/or Wii so there is nothing left for them to buy but the PSP.

You have to think "SATURATION". If everyone has purchased your product then there is no one left to sell it to in that area. So people buy the next thing thing on the market. Sales for the PSP (& PS3) have no where to go but up in light of the DS and Wii peaking in that country.

PS360WII6036d ago

actually it's selling because people over there really like the words Final Fantasy and VII

funkysolo6036d ago

You do know that there are more than 5 million people in Japan, right. You xbots are pathedic always trying to down play SONY. Wii has sold 5 million units in Japan and now it's fading pretty fast. Wii shortages were made up by NES, to get everyone to buy the wii. Anyway, It's funny how FF is responsible for almost 500,000 PSP sold while Halo3 only has shiped an extra 100,000 unit for it's release month and has sold as 4 times the copies. Let's see what FF13 do for PS3. It's good to see healthy competition, it just makes SONY work harder to provide the best hardware and software for us gamers.

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

With so many games fighting for players' attention and interest losing out over time, time sink games are at risk of eventually losing steam.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

Cacabunga1d 22h ago

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

CrimsonWing692d ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde2d ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21832d ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg2d ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS172d ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand1252d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

lucian2292d ago

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
