Kotaku - Format War Casualty: Xbox 360 HD-DVD Giveaway Extended, Expanded

Kotaku reports that Microsoft's summertime promotional giveaway of five free HD-DVD discs with the purchase of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD playing dongle has been extended. From October 1 to February 28, 2008, anyone who drops the cash for a new HD-DVD player or HD-DVD equipped PC from Toshiba or the 360 HD-DVD Player can walk away with five free discs. The quality of titles runs from crap to John Carpenter's The Thing, with titles broken up into five categories. Sorry, you can't walk away with five copies of Aeon Flux for your archives.

funny how they show "300" and "Transformers" on the page....the offer would be more enticing for me if some better quality movies were added to the mix.

Is there anybody out there who still insist MS isn't trying to push HD-DVD?
After all, this IS "Microsoft's summertime promotional giveaway".

The Blu-ray Association's movie offer expired a week and a half ago. Seeing HD-DVD association extend an identical offer for another five months shows how desperate they are to match Blu-ray's untouchable sales figures. Too bad Microsoft didn't include HD-DVD playback in the 360; the sales ratio would have been completely flipped between the two formats.

Blu Ray extended its offer too.

Just check the www.bluraysavings.com website.

DJ3388d ago

But crap, I should've waited to buy my PS3. =P I really want The Prestige. Oh well, except for that row the rest of the offer is identical. It's still interesting to note that this offer says "Buy any Blu-ray Player" while HD-DVD's offer says "Buy an Xbox 360*".

BIadestarX3388d ago

ohh wow.. DJ... you must feel very stupid.. right about now... or at least you should... bashing HD DVD camp.. for something that blu-ray camp is also doing... but then again... all Sony fanboys do that..

testerg353388d ago

You beat me to it.. best comeback he could come up with was "wow, I did know that".

DJ3388d ago (Edited 3388d ago )

There was no comeback; I simply stated that I wasn't aware of that information. There's no reason to get all uptight, unless you two really are that brain-deficient. The Blu-ray offer sheet I filled out and mailed said September 30th was the deadline, and I haven't seen any extension pamphlets replacing the current ones at my local stores. This news was unknown to me, and so I admitted I was wrong.

I'm a former Xbox owner, yet Bladestar still continuously accuses me of being a "Sony Fanboy", a fairly childish term that only serves to strengthen his popular image. This guy's definitely delusional. *shakes head in disappointment*

Edit: That makes FOUR people who are angry at me for admitting I was wrong. Kind of disgusts me that they even call themselves Xbox fans; they just make the rest of us look bad.

Snukadaman3388d ago

but in reality no one is buying into the HD format war. you calling it desperation was hilarious. especially considering blu-ray even extended their give away. what does being a former xbox owner have too do with it all anyways? just more proof of being a sony fanboy dont you think?>?

WilliamRLBaker3388d ago

ownership or former ownership dont mean squat on the net.

I own 2 360's an wii, and an ps3, yet i am labeled an xbox fanboy at most sites, So DJ defending him self by saying oh i used to own this means nothing, hes one of the bigger sonyfanboys on the site, there is not a pro xbox thread he doesn't enter and detract from microsofts good time, and not a anti ps3 thread where he dont throw up the damage control..

Snukadaman3388d ago (Edited 3388d ago )

forget the xbox has more games and also better online implementation. I just dont understand why someone throws in the idea of being a "former xbox owner" like it makes him immune from being a opinionated douchebag

thanks RL

WilliamRLBaker3388d ago

I think you mean immune...obsolete means old..*just wanted to correct ya*

Sony drops PS3 Price:Microsoft drops Xbox 360 price. Sony drops PS3 price again:Microsoft drops PS3 price again(by including 2 games)
Sony extends Blu Ray offer:Microsoft extends HDDVD offer. yay! Competition is a good thing!

jaja14343388d ago

Well really its Toshiba thats giving away the movies, not MS, but close enough. :)

ActionBastard3388d ago

I love how they don't show a picture of the add-on, just the 360.
