Disaster Report series terminated – existing titles all discontinued

According to Famicom Plaza, aside from cancelling Disaster Report 4, IREM has also decided to discontinue production of the entire franchise.

The story is too old to be commented.

Why'd they cancel the entire line? I understand the new one that they were releasing, on account of the disaster.

That's just stupid. It's only a game for Christ's sake.

'Cause of the real-life flood? I understand cancelling the next immediate installment, but there's gotta be something else going on here.

Discs for the One Piece game containing a character who could cause tsunamis were asked to be destroyed... Japanese culture just takes these sort of things very seriously.

Kojmia had a scene at the end of MGS2 altered because of the 9/11 attacks for instance.

Its just their culture; its different to Western sensibilites and should be respected.

I totally agree, though I am forgetting some stuff, I think sometimes other things happen and it is just plain ridiculous. (Yeah I know I can't remember right now, and sorry for that)
Anyways ridiculous things happen everywhere, but I'm not so up to date with international news to know that.

I don't know though, it seems kind of hypocritical! Earthquake just hit Haiti and that 2004 Tsunami isn't forgotten and both were arguably worse! Tons of people in other countries died in earthquakes.

So because it happens to your people suddenly it's taboo?

Unless this was only going to release in Japan, then it makes perfect sense!

like I said in a similar Article; This is just over-reacting. All of a sudden its like earthquake and tsunami became a big taboo even though these kind of natural event is synonymous with the country itself for as long as people remember.I'm sure most people with a sane mind can distinguish the difference between a video game and reality. It's not like canning these sort of games that these natural event will magically disappear.
