Kotaku: Crysis 2 Review: Crysis 2 Delivers a Stunning Standout

Ensconced in a suit of modern day armor, Force Recon Marine "Alcatraz" can survive high rise drops, turn invisible and absorb the impact of machine gun fire. But his augmented Nanosuit is most powerful when it stops working.

It's during those moments in Crysis 2 when the player loses control, when the suit reboots and the character is forced to his knees under its weight and crawls through scenes, that gamers are reminded of the frailty of the human body and the power of the foes he faces. This is when the suit is most powerful, not just as a mechanism of play, but of storytelling.

There's so many conflicting reports on console graphics. IGN saying PS3 is significantly worse, Kotaku saying 360 suffers from texture issues and then LoT showing they're essentially the same.

I'm not sure which version to buy so this is just another FYI for people on the fence about getting the 360 or PS3 version like me.

Shanks2376d ago (Edited 2376d ago )

Wait for Digital Foundry's analysis.

gypsygib2376d ago (Edited 2376d ago )

I know but I kinda of want to go buy it now, I was leaning towards 360 based on what IGN said then I saw LOT and was like I should just wait for Digital Foundry, now I'm leaning towards the PS3 version.

I know they're essentially the same but I may as well get the one that is even only 1% better.

Gamespot has a deal where you get 50% more on all trade-in towards Crysis 2 in Canada which ends soon so I need to know ASAP.

I typed DF into a search and I got quite a few links that weren't a gaming site. Can you link?

Are they really objective?

callahan092376d ago

Don't wait for anything. Don't buy based on the comparisons. The comparisons are pointless. The game isn't any better on one console versus the other. If you have a PS3 and a 360, then consider the following:

1. If I have friends playing the game, which version are they playing?
2. Which controller do I prefer?
3. Do I want to boost my trophy or achievement level?

That's all that matters in this decision. The technical qualities of the game are insignificant, you can't go wrong with either version. Anybody who says any different is just being ridiculous and making a big deal out of nothing.

BeaArthur2375d ago

Ding ding ding. They're probably virtually the same. I doubt you would notice a difference unless they were side by side. I'm going to get the 360 version next week so I can play with friends.

units2376d ago

fix the title you stinking troll and for the record IGN and other sites claimed the 360 the better versions

-Alpha2375d ago (Edited 2375d ago )

At this point you should see that there honestly is no damn difference significant enough to warrant one over the other in any real way.

If there was something major, it would have been reported by now.

Kon2375d ago

The game looks the friggin same on both consoles.

NanoSoldier2375d ago

360 Version is the one you should buy, looks mindblowing

BigPappaPump2375d ago

Why? Because IGN said so?

nilamo2375d ago

because PS3 renders the game at a lower res.

gypsygib2374d ago

I got the 360 version, installed it on my HD and haven't experienced any texture pop-in.

I wish people would make up there mind

XI_-Minty-_IX2376d ago

Pop-in isn't much of a surprise. Crytek definitely had to make a lot of sacrifices for the real-time lighting Crysis 2 pulls off on consoles.

hoops2375d ago

What Crytek did to get this engine on consoles is short of amazing the way the game looks.

btk2376d ago

Did they do the game install? That should at least negate loading time lag.

Even if it is just a distance LoD issue, it does not seem as if it makes the game unplayable.

Just ordered my PS3 copy. Pity it does not work with Move and gun controller. That would be awesome. Maybe they will release a patch?
