Happy Birthday PlayStation 3: Four Years of Firmware Updates, Motion Control & Playing Catch-Up

Four years ago today the PlayStation 3 launched throughout Europe, the last of the current-generation home consoles to hit the market. As the PlayStation 3 reaches it’s fourth birthday in Europe, it’s time to look back at what has made it great, what has hindered it’s success and what a fifth year on the market will do for the system.

I'm assuming 95% of the people commenting on this story didn't actually read the article. Pretty much all it does is praise the ps3.

moparful992701d ago

Blame the person who posted this article as the culprit for the poor title... Article itself wasn't bad except he referenced sony's industry leading first party lineup as "respectable" I'm sory but sony's first party lineup is the best out of the 3 hands down...

Welcome to N4G...

Which spelt backwards is G4N, the acronym for Good For Nothing. Which pretty much sums up many of the fanboys here.

Silly gameAr2701d ago

Yeah the headline is just flamebait. That's all.

@moparful99: "I'm sory but sony's first party lineup is the best out of the 3 hands down..."

"best" is debatable. Sony has, hands down, the biggest collection of first party studios and therefore first party games.

but having the most doesnt mean youre the best. id rather have 1 $100 note than 50 $1 notes. in the same way i would rather have Halo Reach alone than Move Heroes, Yakuza 4, Ratchet and Clank All 4 One, Motorstorm Apolcalypse and a handful of the other 2011 PS3 exclusives. i know lots of you would take those instead of Reach, and thats great - its all opinions.

Quality over quantity is what i prefer. ill take 1 brilliant game over 5 good games any day of the week. its great that sony have so many first party studios, but unless they release AAA games that appeal to the masses its not that impressive.

and anyway, like some have said - this article is in no way derogatory towards the PS3. its filled with praise and nothing else. its so obvious and easy to see who doesnt actually read the articles.

"Quality over quantity"

With Sony you get both. You dont have to choose one.

IHateYouFanboys2701d ago

@Bathyj: "With Sony you get both. You dont have to choose one."

IN YOUR OPINION. like i said, i couldnt care less about 90% of the PS3 exclusive list for 2011. the only ones i care about are Twisted Metal, Killzone 3, Resistance 3 and maybe Journey. I would add Last Guardian to that list, but i hold no hope of it coming out in 2011. i also dont count Ico/SotC because theyre previous gen games, ive already got them.

so thats 3, maybe 4, PS3 exclusives this year that interest me out of the list of 20+ that all the PS3 fanboys keep throwing around. then on the 360 I have Forza 4, Gears of War 3, Kingdoms (although i doubt thatll make 2011), and *most probably* Project Gotham Racing 5. i wont count Kingdoms or PGR5 though, so its 3 for the PS3 vs 2 for the 360. wow, big difference.....

its all personal opinion on which exclusive list is better. personally, i dont think the PS3 exclusives list for 2011 is impressive - its just not games that appeal to me apart from the ones i mentioned. you might, and im sure you do, think its the greatest lineup in the history of videogames. horses for courses.

Shang-Long2701d ago

im a ps3 only owner. but hes the bottom line

quality can only be describe by the consumer buying that product.

so whats considered quality for one may not be for others.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2701d ago

" i would rather have Halo Reach alone than Move Heroes, Yakuza 4, Ratchet and Clank All 4 One, Motorstorm Apolcalypse and a handful of the other 2011 PS3 exclusives."

Well considering thats all you have anyway.

MrBeatdown2701d ago (Edited 2701d ago )

"Quality and quantity" isn't an opinion. Review scores show the quality is there. Quantity can be proven by anyone who can count.

If you don't care for any of those games, that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact the line-up offers a ton of great choices. The quality is still there, even if you don't care for it.

"quality can only be describe by the consumer buying that product."

That is, unless you can recognize others' opinions as being just as valid as your own. If the majority believes a game is good, I'm not going to pretend they are wrong just because I don't agree.

Denethor_II2701d ago

@IHateYouFanboys You express your opinion by saying you like Halo, I forget what number it is, better than a list of PS3 goodness which is fair enough, but where you break your own rule of expressing opinion is when you say I prefer Quality over quantity. This is expressed in the form of fact and not opinion.

Happy birthday PS3!

I for one celebrate the PlayStation 3's birthday by playing through a couple of games that shone on this platform's 3rd generation machhine, the games that kept me happy and glad that I was lucky enough to own one of these machines. This is a list of some of the titles that I own and am playing through, roughly 30 minutes each, just to take a quick trip down memory lane. They are in no particular order.

-Metal Gear Solid 4,
-Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
-Resistance: Fall of Man
-Heavy Rain
-Killzone 2
-God of War 3
-LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2
-Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
-Heavenly Sword
-Gran Turismo 5

...and SO MUCH MORE! So from me to the PlayStation 3, happy birthday! Feel free to add more titles below, help celebrate Sony's black machine!

slate912701d ago

Man, what a great list. Sony certainly does know how to build a great line up. I've played all of those and they are pretty good

lee_ten2701d ago

and i own nearly all of those games there. rock on sony, rock on.

The title starts off good then it ends in a diss.

WildArmed2701d ago

Yeah, stories like this, you know the ones that jump to the conclusion before even starting the articles, are one of the reasons why I've stopped reading most opinion pieces @ n4g.

+ the comments that follow the articles are never productive either.

blackburn52701d ago

Yawn. Can I enjoy my PS3 now please?
